Great apartment within 10 minutes of the beach

  • 5 of 5

Bright, spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped apartment. Beach and downtown are a short 10 minute walk. Bakery, fish market, coffee store, vegetable market, and a great pizza place right next door. Great view of the mountain from the apartment.

The owner, Jean-Michel is a fountain of knowledge on the area. He went out of his way to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. He was always available for any question. Super host!!

We would definitely recommend this apartment. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return next year.

'Exactly what it says on the tin'!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment itself is very comfortable and spacious, but practical at the same time - has all the appliances you need and easy to keep clean. It was great to have a parking place and be near enough to walk to the beach or the town in the evening without the worry or expense of finding a parking place. Lovely boulangerie and other food shops just next door - great paella from the poissonerie! The owners were very welcoming and emphasised both that it was 'chez nous' for the time of our stay and also to contact them at any time if needed.

The beach at St Jean de Luz is so sheltered the sea is much calmer and safer than beaches nearby, gently shelving sand and perfect for young children and older people. We enjoyed trying out the many little restaurants in the little streets leading off Place Louis XIV, [our favourite being 'Aux Pigeons Blancs'], where there is often music in the evenings.

One 'must' is the train trip to the summit of 'La Rhune' from where the views are stunning. In high season get there early to avoid long queues and choose a day with a good forecast as the very top can get covered in cloud even on a fine day. Take binoculars to see the griffin vultures and golden eagles! Another worthwhile visit is to St Jean Pied de Port, easy parking near the market place and interesting walk in the old town on the old pilgrim route. Thoroughly recommended.

You won't be disappointed!

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted to have chosen St Jean de Luz and equally pleased to have selected this spacious and comfortable apartment. The apartment was very well presented and provided us with an excellent base for our holiday. The view from the balcony across to the mountains is beautiful. The owner, Jean-Michel, is very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Don't worry if your French is rusty - Google translate made communication easy! Although the apartment is on the edge of the town it only takes ten minutes or so to reach the beach and the centre of this charming little town. Just one point for English guests - you will need to take your own household linen.

Bien cordialement. Jean-Michel Duchâtel.
