My husband and I are an English/American couple with 2 young children! We are based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn but desperately needed a place to escape too. So with a lot of hard work we managed to buy our country home. It's taken a year to get it looking good, and we are constantly working on improvements & new projects. We love our country home & we hope you will too!
Lindsay Lever purchased this house in 2013
For us it was the perfect location. Set back from the road it offered us the privacy we desired but so close to Rhinebeck, Redhook & Kingston. We fell in love with Rhinebeck on our 1st visit. The town, shops & amazing restaurants. Spring time is our favorite season when wild flowers bloom on every corner. The locally grown fresh fruit & vegetables our some of the most delicious we have ever tried and we love bringing our load back to city with us to enjoy for the rest of the week.
We stayed at this delightful home this fall and had a wonderful stay. The house is perfectly located close to town and the interior is so tasteful and impeccably clean. We were a group of and had plenty of room, so happy we picked this home, it was a great choice.
My husband and I stayed at this lovely home in January 2017. We were pleasantly surprised to find the house so conveniently located. The house is very private and set on beautiful grounds. The house was fully equipped, a full kitchen for the chef! :) It was very clean and all the linens and towels were fresh and looked new. We would definitely stay here again and come back with our grandchildren as the house also has a lot of toys and play areas which they would love. We plan on coming back in the summer for sure!! Overall a great relaxing stay, the home Owner was lovely and answered all our questions very quickly. Would highly recommend.
The house is pretty much as described. Clean, nice decor, conveniently located. The owner/manager is very responsive and helpful. She provided a welcome packet with useful information and always responded to texts quickly.
We could have gone with other cheaper houses but my kids love swimming and so we paid extra for a house with a pool. Sadly the kids only got to swim in the pool for half of our stay. Before we got there we received a text saying that the pool was being worked on so we couldn't swim in it. My husband found a rodent of some sort in the motor area and the pool had all sorts of roaches, bugs, leaves, etc. because the filter wasn't working. The owner was very good about updating us on when she expected the pool to be open, but nevertheless two days passed before we could swim in it which was half of our stay. I asked for a partial refund, which she agreed to. But then during check out she said her cleaner found a stain on the mattress and would not be able to refund us after all. My daughter wears diapers and it's possible there was a leak but we didn't notice any wet spots throughout the trip.
Also, some other smaller issues--the house is located around a pond/lake which attracts a lot of geese. Because of this, there was geese poop everywhere. It was a landmine trying to walk around and not step on poop. The garbage can is also pretty far away from the house. Lastly, given the number of bedrooms and bathrooms the house has, the dining room is pretty small and doesn't comfortably accommodate that many people. We had 7 adults and 2 children and it was a tight squeeze. The dining room can only really comfortably accommodate 6 people. Likewise with the living room.
First let me say when I go to a hotel I expect that everything is in working order. As well a rental. It is not my responsibility to deal with any problems.
I rented this house Halloween weekend 2016, to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. Because my married adult children live outside of NY, Rhinebeck was a perfect central location to meet for this occasion. My husband and myself left on thrusday to get to the house the day before our children were to arrive. We felt we could check out the house. Upon our entry into the house we found the front screen door hinge was laying on the porch but the door itself was working. Since we had no problem getting in and out we did not report it to the owner. Next once inside the house I noticed there was a horrible order that I had never smelled before. It seemed to be coming from the master bath. But I couldn't find anything that would indicate what it was. I will say the house was clean. But that odor was just annoying. It was explained to me, by the owner that the water used was well water and there might be a slight odor. So I didnt want to call and make a major issue out of this. We left after a little while to go do our food shopping and go out to dinner since we were exhausted at this point. That night we just went to sleep without even washing up we were so beat. The next morning I went to take a shower and realized where this horrible odor was coming from, the water! It was so potent it made me throw up. I asked my husband how could this be a slight order? Because we have never dealt with well water we assumed this is what the owner was talking about. When my children arrived that afternoon I asked them to smell the running water. My son is a Dr said there is no way this could be slight or normal and was concerned that there could be unhealthy bacterial problems. I said after dinner I'd call the owners and speak to them. We turned on the gas grill to cook dinner and within 15 minutes there was no gas left. At this point I did call the owner told her about the water and the grill. So said she'd call a plumber about the water. And told us to go to the gas station on the corner and get another tank of propane. Turns out when the plumber came the next day the filter from the well had not been changes in so long, it was completely clogged with God know kind of garbage. As well there were light bulbs that not working. The owners then tried to blame us for breaking the screen door and the kitchen faucet
My family including 2 young children stayed here over Thanksgiving and everything was perfect. The kitchen was fully equipped and the layout of the house was perfect to accommodate multiple couples as well as kids. The decor and linens were lovely and all features were very up to date. My kids really appreciated the toys and books as well as the view of the pond and woods including geese and deer! We felt miles away from reality but also appreciated being such a close drive to Rhinebeck Village and all its shops and restaurants.
This is a wonderful house for a family. The children's room is loaded with fun toys for the kids--an endless supply. The pool is encircled by a gate and has steps leading into it, so perfect for a child to sit and play in the water. Kitchen is well-equipped (and grill outside) and supplies were abundant everywhere. Adults have the jacuzzi for relaxing and a quiet respite from the everyday. Although the house is set back from the road in a peaceful setting, you are still near lots of activities and events in the area. We had 4 adults and 2 kids and a dog (thanks Lindsay) and felt we were having a terrific vacation.
