About Gordon Hirsch
I have lived in northern New Mexico for 15 years. I'm happy to share my experiences and to recommend places to go and things to do. I have keep a booklet at the house that lists 10 different trails to enjoy.
Why Gordon Hirsch chose Youngsville
A 15 minute drive from the highway, Casa Rio is situated at 'the end of the trail' leading to Abiquiu lake. When you look to the East, North, or West there is no sign of human habitation to distract the eye. The landscape has remained this way for millions of years. Hollywood crews have been coming to this area for decades to shoot films requiring vivid scenery typical of the wild west. Some movies made in the area include: the Lone Ranger,, Silverado, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, No Country for Old Men, The Missing, Wyatt Earp, 3:10 to Yuma, Red Dawn, the Last Outlaw, and City Slickers.
What makes this House unique
It offers sensational, undisturbed views of the lake, river canyon, and mountains. This is the only lakefront property with a private trail to Abiquiu Lake, opening up a whole new world to be discovered. This is also a great 'base camp' for exploring more of northern New Mexico. An ideal location for nature lovers, anglers, paddlers, astronomers, archaeologists, paleontologists, botanists, geologists, historians, birders, artists, writers, musicians, hikers - of all skill sets. This is an amazing place for anyone with a sense of wonder!

Peace and Tranquility
What an amazing space to relax and unwind. We were looking for an in-state rental to decompress and we found it. The property is about 2 1/2 hours from Albuquerque and off of a county road that turns onto a private road leading you to a gorgeous piece of land right over the lakeshore. The home is warm and inviting decorated with Native American and New Mexican flare. Big comfy leather chairs and sofas, a big screen TV with satellite and internet access were available to make you feel at home. There are two nice size bedrooms with queen beds. The large walk in shower and the heart shaped jacuzzi tub were great....especially if you wanted to get outside into the hot tub that overlooked the property. It was great very relaxing during the day (watch out for sunburn) but at night with all of the stars in the sky above you, it was beyond celestial. We even saw some shooting stars!
It is the wilderness, after all, so if you have a visitor that rattles be aware...and watch out for the remnants of the passing cattle herd studding your walk to the lakeshore :)
We had a fantastic time and Gordon provided all the details needed to get there, enjoy and relax. Would not hesitate to return!
Picture perfect property!
Seriously, look no further for this is the best property location in Abiquiu, Northern New Mexico!
And the host Gordon is the best!
This was our second trip back and hope to enjoy this perfect place for a long time!
great house in a great surrounding
very quiet and relaxing stay, lot of hiking trails around
Remote location, amazing views and very nice property
Casa del Rio is in a remote location which is exactly what we were looking for. The property is comfortable, well equipped and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook some nice meals and the living room is a great place to relax and enjoy views of the beautiful New Mexico landscape. The hot tub is such a nice place to enjoy the night skies after a day of hiking or exploring. We definitely hope to return again!
The house is cozy, clean, and has a really awesome view! There is a walking trail to go closer down to the lake, but it is elevated on a cliff so there's not direct water access unless you travel down the adjacent road. The flooring heat was nice and the hottub was clean and was relaxing with great views of the lake and stars.
Hi Ashley. Thanks for taking the time do review my property. I am glad you enjoyed your time and the views and stars!
