Another incredible treehouse, built with the same sensitivity to Nature as VRBO #199848, also built from recycled materials, an eco-friendly, solar powered, passive energy paradise in the forest. Take the stairs up to above the lower canopy to a lawn of hapu'u fronds and the tops of the ohia trees. Enter your cozy multi-level nest and stay somewhere so unique you will remember it for the rest of your lives.
Unplug your kids for a change. No TV on purpose! Be transported back to the child in you, as you discover the treehouse experience with your children.
The number of windows and lush gardens all around are magical. You really have to see it in 3D to appreciate it. There is no sacrifice of comforts either, with a warm shower and thoughtfully designed and stocked kitchen. You will be amazed to llive this comfortably this high up in the trees!
If you care to even leave the treehouse, you can visit the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park just 5 miles up the road.
You are out in the forest….it's a bit like camping, but you have all the cozy comforts in a romantic, picturesque Hawaiian rain forest: kitchen with fridge and 2-burner stove, hot water shower, regular flush toilet, mood setting open faced fireplace with kindling and lots of cut wood.
Go upstairs…. A comfortable Cal King bed with windows above for star-viewing awaits you. From the Master bedroom up the Captain's ladder to the double-futon loft is another large window to the sky. Sleeping for the 5th person is available on the living room couch, a new single bed mattress. (All mattresses are new.)
The moss and fern lined exotic trail (lit by a string of festive lights at night) from your private car parking weaves uninvasively through the Hawaiian forest to the 28 steps that will take you up to your treehouse adventure.
FUN! A 50 foot walkway bends its way through the top of trees with a comfy place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee with the sounds of birds and view of the treehouse.
This could be one of your BEST adventures ever! Come visit and take it off your bucket list.
If you value a getaway out of the ordinary -- and absolutely extraordinary -- this is the place. Not for the fussy...
I'm a Volcano enthusiast and a Treehouse Romantic and want to share this incredible place with others.
I built the treehouse to be a very romantic hideaway for myself and my honey, and now that I'm renting it out, the couples who have stayed here, including many honeymooners have appreciated the romance of the setting and ambiance. (In fact, we had considered calling it KamaSutreehouse when setting up the website!.) The setting is so private, surrounded by such natural beauty that one cannot help but be inspired. My favorite romantic details are the fireplace and the bed perched high up in the loft where you're surrounded by windows looking out at the moon and stars at night and native trees, birds and cloud formations by day.
Skye Peterson purchased this cabin in 1988
This area is untouched pristine Hawaiian Rain Forest where I could build an eco-treehouse with minimal impact on the native environmental surroundings.
To be able to experience an authentic eco-treehouse, built above the rain forest lower canopy. 5 large skylights, 2 over the beds for night time star viewing. Finally get living in a treehouse off your bucket list!
It was so amazing to feel warm and secure, yet seeing, feeling, the forces of nature… Indeed swaying with the trees! We wish we had more time. We were completely in awe of this creation of yours. Thanks for your hospitality.
Treehouse #2 was our home for 3 nights. My teenage son and I felt is was such a unique adventure that will be the most memorable for us during our stay on the Island. Just getting to the location and walking through the magical path to the treehouse, especially at night, was an adventure in itself. I now know that the Coqui tree frog really does say "Ko-Kee" because that's who will be serenading you during your stay.
Skye was a great host and truly lives the eco-friendly life and appreciates and respects the beauty of nature as evident in the treeshouses he built. Maholo
We're a family of 5 (3 teenagers) that wanted to spend some time in the Volcano National Park area. The treehouse was awesome! Yes, a little tight, but we were in a tree, so what can you expect! Overall, we were very comfortable for the two nights we stayed. Skye gave us some great tips regarding the park and nearby dining - he seemed like a really good guy. I was shocked by how well built the house is, within a tree, in a remote location. Overall, a safe, beautiful experience that I doubt we'll ever replicate at any other location.
Our stay at Skye's treehouse # 2 was exemplary. We were out of words when Skye introduced us to the place. The care and love that went into building the house is very apparent. It is easily accessible from the Volcano village by car; it's a 10 minute drive and a 15 minute drive to the national park. Even though it was a tree house, it had all the basic facilities: electricity, warm water, a small kitchen & a fireplace. The experience of staying there was second to none. We felt on top of the world in the middle of the forest, all by ourselves and it was a very romantic setting. We will surely recommend this place to anyone.
We booked Skye's "Treehouse #2" for two nights during our tour of Hawaii's big island; having read all his reviews and his info, I thought our kids (three teens) and my wife would absolutely LOVE it, which they did, to put it mildly. It is a work of art, and amazing construction, all built by Skye himself. There are an abundance of windows, so you truly feel you're living in the treetops. I'm sure the stars are great too, however it was cloudy and raining for our two days there so we instead enjoyed the pitter-patter of the rain and the completely dry treehouse. Yes, it has a fully functional bathroom and shower and simple kitchen, along with a wood stove and propane heater when necessary. I imagine this would be incredible for honeymooners as well as families, and is very secluded and romantic. Truly a unique experience.
To those who only enjoy being pampered in "5-star" hotels like the St. Regis, Four Seasons, etc - this may not be for you. One needs certain expectations, and a sense of adventure and fun to appreciate this; if that's you, do NOT miss it, trust me.
My daughter and I stayed here for three nights while exploring the national park. We loved all the artistic details that Skye created with tree branches inside and out. The whole place was constructed to fit into the habitat, so it's truly a living-in-trees experience and I have never slept better. Most comfortable bed ever, too. The stay here was our peak experience of our entire two week Hawaii trip. Love the lava!
We had an absolutely magical stay here, including multiple great catch-ups with the landlord, Skye, who was great company and a fantastic host.
Very convenient for the gas station, restaurants and stores in Volcano town plus the multiple attractions inside the National Park, while at the same time, being secluded, quiet and absolutely unique.
Active lava flowing from Kilauea Volcano at Pu'u O'o vent on Kilauea.
