Another incredible treehouse, built with the same sensitivity to Nature as VRBO #199848, also built from recycled materials, an eco-friendly, solar powered, passive energy paradise in the forest. Take the stairs up to above the lower canopy to a lawn of hapu'u fronds and the tops of the ohia trees. Enter your cozy multi-level nest and stay somewhere so unique you will remember it for the rest of your lives.

Unplug your kids for a change. No TV on purpose! Be transported back to the child in you, as you discover the treehouse experience with your children.
The number of windows and lush gardens all around are magical. You really have to see it in 3D to appreciate it. There is no sacrifice of comforts either, with a warm shower and thoughtfully designed and stocked kitchen. You will be amazed to llive this comfortably this high up in the trees!
If you care to even leave the treehouse, you can visit the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park just 5 miles up the road.
You are out in the forest….it's a bit like camping, but you have all the cozy comforts in a romantic, picturesque Hawaiian rain forest: kitchen with fridge and 2-burner stove, hot water shower, regular flush toilet, mood setting open faced fireplace with kindling and lots of cut wood.
Go upstairs…. A comfortable Cal King bed with windows above for star-viewing awaits you. From the Master bedroom up the Captain's ladder to the double-futon loft is another large window to the sky. Sleeping for the 5th person is available on the living room couch, a new single bed mattress. (All mattresses are new.)
The moss and fern lined exotic trail (lit by a string of festive lights at night) from your private car parking weaves uninvasively through the Hawaiian forest to the 28 steps that will take you up to your treehouse adventure.
FUN! A 50 foot walkway bends its way through the top of trees with a comfy place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee with the sounds of birds and view of the treehouse.
This could be one of your BEST adventures ever! Come visit and take it off your bucket list.
If you value a getaway out of the ordinary -- and absolutely extraordinary -- this is the place. Not for the fussy...
I'm a Volcano enthusiast and a Treehouse Romantic and want to share this incredible place with others.
I built the treehouse to be a very romantic hideaway for myself and my honey, and now that I'm renting it out, the couples who have stayed here, including many honeymooners have appreciated the romance of the setting and ambiance. (In fact, we had considered calling it KamaSutreehouse when setting up the website!.) The setting is so private, surrounded by such natural beauty that one cannot help but be inspired. My favorite romantic details are the fireplace and the bed perched high up in the loft where you're surrounded by windows looking out at the moon and stars at night and native trees, birds and cloud formations by day.

This area is untouched pristine Hawaiian Rain Forest where I could build an eco-treehouse with minimal impact on the native environmental surroundings.
To be able to experience an authentic eco-treehouse, built above the rain forest lower canopy. 5 large skylights, 2 over the beds for night time star viewing. Finally get living in a treehouse off your bucket list!
It was so amazing to feel warm and secure, yet seeing, feeling, the forces of nature… Indeed swaying with the trees! We wish we had more time. We were completely in awe of this creation of yours. Thanks for your hospitality.
Staying here was a true pleasure and a highlight of our trip. We absolutely loved that it was so unique and hand-crafted, and the secluded and ultra-quiet (from human noise; there were lots of background nature sounds to enjoy) location was exactly what we were hoping for. I was amazed at the amount of window space, which allowed us to enjoy and feel connected to the lush foliage completely surrounding us. We actually cut some of our volcano activities short, preferring to just relax in the treehouse! Even in such a outdoorsy setting, everything was very clean and comfortable, and the flush toilet, shower, and kitchen sink (and accompanying hot water) were all in perfect working order. The only very minor inconvenience is that there is no bathroom sink, but the kitchen sink is right there and does the job.
In addition to the treehouse itself being so great, Skye was a wonderful host. In both our pre-trip communication and in-person orientation, he was prompt, thorough, and friendly. We appreciated his very useful suggestions and especially enjoyed hearing about how he built the treehouse.
There is no TV service (there is a TV player + DVD player, and also a CD player, both with some discs for use, and while we're at it, some board games), cell service for us was spotty, and there are stairs both to enter the treehouse and within it, so I could see this not being the best fit for everyone. But as an able-bodied, laid-back, non-partying couple who were looking for quiet time to cook, read, and have conversations with a beautiful view and nobody else around, this was paradise! Thank you, Skye!
Such a fun adventure sharing Skye's love of tree houses. Three of us had a two night stay and wished for more. . .Skye was so accommodating and helpful, we had no worries. He gave us lots of tips about the area and we worried that we were taking too much of his time! Such a fun experience being up in the air and over the rain forest. We had the smaller tree house and the space was plentiful and tasteful and the tree house details were special. A nice respite from resort living! Thank you, Skye
A once-in-a-lifetime experience. Off the beaten path and close to the National Park. Skye Peterson's attention to every detail makes this place a true piece of art. Every wonderful word of the other reviewers is absolutely true. If staying in a tree house is not on your bucket list - add it!
Skye's treehouse is truly something to be experienced. I live on Oahu and have now had FIVE visits to the treehouse and I still can't get enough! My three teenage stepkids never once argued the entire time we were there; they were in awe too! I have many many fond memories... Mahalo Skye for sharing your dream with us!
Our family of 4 stayed one night (which was all that was available or we would have stayed 2) on our 6 night tour around the Big Island. We stayed a different place each night. This was the most memorable, and peaceful. The stars through the skylights, the novelty of a tree house, and the morning view of sunshine over the forest canopy are all memories to treasure.
Read all the other reviews - I agree with everything.
Skye is a craftsman and artist. I like that he lived in the tree house himself for awhile after it was first built. That way he could work out all the little kinks that a tree house would inevitably have and make it truly livable and comfortable.
I also like that the walls of windows are made from reclaimed windows and doors and the whole place is off grid (solar with battery storage for electricity and rain catchment system for water). After staying in 3 off-grid places we decided that the term is also code for "rough dirt road" to access - adding to the adventure factor. Speaking of adventure, this is not a place to stay if you have any mobility issues or even a fear of heights. This was not an issue for us, but there are lots of stairs (some kind of ladder-like and narrow), and a mid night trip to the bathroom (downstairs) can be challenging in a half-sleep state. A flashlight is available.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.
Thank you to Skye for helping us out when we left one thing - a cell phone :>( upon our check-out.
Our 3 day stay was easily one of the most memorable part of our trip to The Big Island. This treehouse does not disappoint. From the second you walk down the winding lit pathway and take the staircase up into the treehouse you know you are making a lifetime memory. Pictures do not do this place justice, as the attention to detail and all the little added features cannot be captured they have to be experienced.
We loved every minute of our stay, from stargazing from our bed at night, to having coffee on the deck in the morning. This is something everyone should do at least once, I know we hope to go back again. Skye gave us a great tour of the property and was so helpful in getting us organized and providing everything we needed for a great stay. I would 100% recommend this adventure as the experience far surpassed anything you could get out of any tour or guided excursion.
