About David Faulkner

Born in Petoskey purchased my Grampa and Gramma's property in 1997 which they purschased in 1944. Graduated Petoskey high and still reside in northern mi. Been living the dream living on Walloon lake for the last 18 years . I'm a licensed builder in Michigan my company is David Faulkner Builder.

David Faulkner purchased this cottage in 1997

Why David Faulkner chose Northern Michigan

I have spent 18 years of my life annoucing ski racing all over the world. Every time I would come home in the spring I would say to my self this is as beatiful of place as I've ever been. Its a cross between Lake Tahoe California and Lusanne Switzerland.

What makes this cottage unique

Growing up on Walloon when my Grandparents owned it holds alot of special memories. There were 30 grandchildren always swimming and having a ball in the lake.

Wonderful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We were so lucky to have found this rental property last year since many of these properties book out well in advance of a year. The house is beautiful (built by the owner himself) and in great condition. Plenty of room for our family and our friend's family to enjoy ample sleeping space, a great, gourmet kitchen, lots of space to play by the lake, and a great dock to take off by boat or just for a swim. This house offers amazing sunset views and is situated in the perfect location for quick trips to the local grocery store or shopping in downtown Petoskey, etc. The owner was super accommodating and attentive to our can tell he has taken great pride of ownership in his lovely home and wants his renters to enjoy it as much as possible. We are headed back for a 2nd stay this summer and have already booked out for 2017!

Beautiful location, owner did not have work finished

  • 1 of 5

We rented this cottage many months in advance and it was very difficult to get the owner to respond or acknowledge when he received my checks. I was beginning to think I was being scammed. Finally we connected and I asked if the house had Wifi and he said yes. When we arrived at 4:00 check in time, cleaning was not finished. Owner showed up, stayed for over an hour cleaning yard and telling us about house and informed us that the WiFi installer would be there the next day to meet him for hookup. We were supposed to have WiFi and it was not even hooked up yet. Next day a couple from our party had to stay back to wait for WiFi hookup..owner was late arriving for that appointment and installer was about to leave after waiting for an hour when the owner finally showed up. The hookup required over three hours of pounding and drilling, which woke up our 18 mo old grandson from his badly needed afternoon nap. Finally the installation was complete and the house was ours but the WiFi was not complete. My son had to finish the setup in order to get it to work. The sunsets were indeed beautiful but the week we were there was May Fly season and there were thousands all over the place. Kayaking was great but swimming was gross with the dead may fly carcasses floating (guess we picked the wrong week). Our daughter and family brought their black lab, and granted, there was sand involved when having a dog near a sandy beach (maybe he should have said No Pets Allowed). Many of the rooms had unfinished woodwork and the third floor was not available to us. Before we checked out of the house, we stripped several of the beds and started the laundry for the cleaning person. The floors were vacuumed, dishes washed and put away, counter tops and sinks cleaned, and everything put in place. Two weeks later I called to check on our deposit refund. Owner finally sent a check but it was only for $300. I called to ask him why he shorted us the rest of the deposit and he said the dog had ruined the comforter in one of the bedrooms....I do not think he was telling the truth because the lab is an excellent dog. Yes, there may have been sand but NO, he would not have ruined a comforter. So beware, if you are bringing a pet....might not be the place for you. Owner offered to send us an additional $50 back but the check never came. We have rented cottages and houses every year for many years and have never run into so many issues as we did here.
