|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
This is a beautiful two-bedroom bungalow on stilts in the beachfront community, 'Hermosa Bungalows.' Located directly behind a full-size pool with views to the Pacific Ocean, and a short barefoot walk of less than 100 yards to a beautiful black sand beach with outstanding surf. Our bungalow is fully stocked to make your stay a truly memorable vacation. We take pride in offering our home as a welcome retreat for families with children, couples on an adventurous getaway, wedding parties or anniversary celebrations, and travelers who appreciate a home as a better option than a hotel room. You can't beat staying in this 1000 square foot home compared to a hotel!
The bungalow features two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins (that can be modified into an additional queen bed), and a queen sofa-bed in the living room. A portacrib is also available for infants. The kitchen is large and completely stocked with amenities. The bathroom has been completely expanded and remodeled with a large vanity and mirror as well as a large shower, with intricate mosaic tiles on the walls and vanity. Our bungalow has an additional water filtration system and tank to ensure clean water for our guests, an important feature during the rainy season! An extensive double-layer river rock leach field drainage system was installed to ensure adequate and rapid irrigation and drainage for the bathroom. The interior furniture is custom-made from native woods and there are bamboo black-out blinds throughout for ultimate privacy and for those who like to sleep in!
As with any property near the beach, it is important to maintain it with regular and frequent upkeep. So throughout the last 2 years we have made several UPGRADES to improve our guests' experiences:
Exterior and interior REPAINTING.
REFINISHED the interior wood floors.
Replaced exterior balcony wood floors with new native hardwood.
Added in-home WIFI with private password for our guests' use.
NEW CUSHIONS on all the couches and chairs.
New FLAT SCREEN TV in living room.
Replaced surf board racks.
Refinished storage locker for guests' suitcases and gear.
Replaced balcony ceiling with durable weather-proof material.
Reinforced balcony railings.
Complete bathroom remodel.
Installed new tile backsplash in kitchen.
Reinforced the master bed frame.
Built-in stone BBQ.
New concrete stairs and replaced wood banister.
Also, in order to enhance your vacation experience, our on-site manager, Brian, (from California) provides assistance with making your stay at Bungalow 14 a vacation to remember!
You can enjoy great views from the expansive balcony which is furnished with rocking chairs and an outdoor dining table, or from the hammock facing the pool from our balcony. The pool is directly in front of the bungalow so there is a combined pool/ocean view during the day, and at night we're the ONLY rental bungalow in the complex with the lighted pool completely in front of our balcony.
Ecotourism and surfing are huge attractions to this part of Costa Rica, and the beach directly in front of our bungalow complex is one of the best on the Pacific, with the 'Almendro Tree' landmark as a well-known surf location. The water is always warm, and surfboard rentals are readily available. The ISA world surf competitions at Playa Hermosa are within walking distance from our bungalow.
Tropical birds and iguanas are frequent sightings from the bungalow, and macaws are often heard and seen flying overhead in the late afternoon. A wildlife estuary is adjacent to the bungalows and is a dream location for birdwatchers. Large sea turtles are known to come up on the beach to lay eggs, night excursions during their nesting season may offer a surprise sighting.
Incredible wildlife is also seen at Manuel Antonio National Park, less than an hour drive south. There you may see white-faced capuchin monkeys, sloths, koatis, iguanas, and several bird species. The Carara National Park is only a 20-minute drive to our north. It is a sanctuary for wild scarlet macaws, and toucans are also seen there. Self-guided tours as well as hired guides can be taken at both parks.
The town of Jacó is a 5-minute drive to the north, where you can find restaurants, bars, surf shops, and markets. Excursions (ie. ATV, rafting) can be arranged by our manager. Fishing, boating, and snorkeling trips are available from the marina by the Marriott Los Suenos 5 minutes north of Jacó. The Marriott also has an excellent golf course. You can't leave Costa Rica without taking a canopy (zip-line) tour, one of the most exhilarating experiences you will ever have. Yes, you will fly through the jungle with just a harness and a cable!
We welcome you to our home and know that you will be amazed by the beauty of Costa Rica!!!

We live in the Tarbaca here in Costa Rica. We are using this bungalow whenever we can since for us it is only two hours away. And since our home is at 5800 feet in the mountains sealevel and diffrent clima is a wonderfull change. It is truly a restful and fun get-away from the busy work and school lives that we lead. We hope that you enjoy your vacation and feel welcome in our home.
Andreas purchased this bungalow in 2003
We purchased this bungalow from the orginal owners recently. We rented it twice and immediately fell in love with it.
It is a wonderful location in the bungalow complex, directly behind the pool with a view to the ocean. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town 5 minutes south of the busy town of Jaco, so we feel it is a perfect location to be in nature but close to a town for nightlife and excursions.
The Costa Rica experience means relaxation and natural beauty! We know you will love our Hermosa Paradise home! You will hear tropical birds, see iguanas everywhere, and feel the power of the Pacific Ocean at a beautiful black sand beach less than 200 yards from the bungalow. Sitting on the balcony, you can enjoy the beauty of the pool and feel the ocean breeze.
If you have kids you will enjoy the location. You can sit on the porch and watch you kids in the pool.
Nice house and beach community enjoyed a lot. Very kid friendly and restful for adults too.
Overall, the place was decent. The shower head really needs to be replaced. The toilet handle sticks easily and can flood. The bedspread was torn a bit. The curtains were funky. The biggest thing is the shaking of the whole place when the washing machine is spinning. I though it was cool, being in a raised structure, but my girlfriend was freaked out some. Earthquake risk? Nice layout, great kitchen and being next to the pool with a big balcony made up for it.
This was our first visit to Costa Rica. From the moment we arrive to the property we were in awe. This is the prime location of all the bungalows. The property is extremely clean, and there's always someone there if we needed anything. The bungalow was ready for our arrival with the A/c on. It had everything we needed. From lines and towels, to pots and pans, even books and DVDs. Even beach towels, so pack light! Having the pool right at our door steps was a plus, because if your not at the beach, you'll be in the pool keeping cool. And don't forget bug spray and make sure you check the Deet level on it. The bugs are not bad every day, but there were a few days that made up for it. Overall, the property exceeded our expectations, we stayed for 16 days. The water is drinkable! Everywhere! You'll need to make a short trip into Jaco for shopping. The meat at the stores for BBQing is amazing!!! Go for the porkchops!!!! Bacon and chicken. And use the handbook for dinning out. The bakery and coffee bar will not disappoint, cinnamon rolls, fresh bread, amazing salads. Pura Vida
The bungalow is great, with strong ac units in both bedrooms and the living room. Place was in great shape, the only minor complaints are the lack of seasonings in the kitchen and the minimal drawer space for clothes.
The real standout is the location; not only is it across a quiet dirt road from a beach that extends for miles, but the bungalow community is extremely family friendly. When we were there there were lots of families with kids ranging from infants to teens; if you are looking to party, this place probably wouldn't be a good fit. The vibe was so nice that if it wasn't a six hour flight for us, we'd think about buying our own bungalow. Thanks for the great stay.
My husband and I stayed in the Playa Hermosa Bungalows during our first visit to Costa Rica. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful upkeep of the landscaping around the pool and property. The house was clean and bright and roomy. We cooked almost all of our meals, and the kitchen is equipped with all we needed as far as cookware. We brought all of our spices from home. You need to bring your own beach towels, they are not supplied. All the families that live in the bungalows were so welcoming to us from the moment we got there. We felt like it was our home while we were there. The pool is crystal clear clean and the covered area next to the pool is great for hanging out to eat, drink and play games. Your cars stay covered so they are not baking in the sun all day. The black sand beach, just a few steps across the road, is beautiful, and a great surf spot. It's close to town, but not smack in the middle, so you feel like you are really out in the middle of nowhere till you get into your car and drive back onto the main highway. We ventured out on road trips to Manuel Antonio Beach, which was beautiful, and to Carara National Park Rain Forrest which was having a major downpour the day we went, but it was still fun hiking thru the mud. We were told the wildlife there is amazing, but the rain kept everything hiding that day. Brian manages the property, and he is very helpful for anything you need or questions you have. We had a great dinner out at a little local place called Graffiti's, in Jaco. I hope to come back to the Playa Hermosa Bungalows again soon.
We had an amazing time in Playa Hermosa and loved every second in the cozy bungalow :). The safe, community feel created a perfect escape for both our kids and my husband and I. The kids enjoyed the pool and beautiful grounds (including the grass volleyball court and amazing wildlife viewing), while my husband and I took advantage of the relaxing deck and hammocks.
Each week a local fisherman comes by with his fresh catch! We bought beautiful Ahi tuna and cooked it fresh that night in our well stocked kitchen.
The resident host is always available to answer questions and help word anything you might need.
We recommend renting a car so you can explore all the amazing things in and around Jaco. The beach right in front of the bungalows is perfect for surfing but too rough for kids to play in. We loved watching all the surfers, but when we wanted a swim we just drove south to a calmer beach.
The national parks in both directions from Playa Hermosa are incredible. We saw beautiful wild life and got some pictures that are wall worthy :). I recommend hiring a guide if possible, well worth it!
Costa Rica is truly an amazing country with abundant beauty and friendly locals. If you enjoy exploring or just relaxing, the bungalows in playa Hermosa are truly a home away from home :)
We will be back!!!
World-class surfing at Playa Hermosa directly in front of complex, Stunning Sunsets, White-water Rafting, Canopy ('zip line') tours, Turtle expeditions, ATV tours, hangliding, impressive bird watching and wildlife, rainforest parks nearby at Manuel Antonio and Carara National Parks, 15 min drive from 18-hole golf at Marriott Los Suenos where marina is also available for deep sea fishing, jet ski, and scuba.
