4-5 Bedroom Retreat on South Turtle Lake 5 miles from Manitowish Waters
About Diane O'Connor
We bought this home years ago to enjoy the north woods of Wisconsin for the beautiful sunsets, swims to the island, skiing and hiking in winter and the gorgeous fall colors. We raised our three daughters here to enjoy the same love of the wilderness and they have canoed and kayaked from Boulder Junction to the Arctic circle and many places in between! And become avid ski racers, snow-shoers and tele-skiers as well. They cherish their memories but now live in the West and we want to share this little slice of peace of mind with others!
Diane O'Connor purchased this House in 1981
Why Diane O'Connor chose Presque Isle
I went to camp in nearby Mercer and fell in love with the smells of the forests and the peace of the starry nights. When the opportunity came to buy this home we jumped at it and now have many friends whose families have enjoyed it with us.
What makes this House unique
Fabulous sunsets, autumn colors that surpass New England, never-ending trails to explore the wilderness, and events that don't end in Manitowish Waters, Presque Isle, Boulder Junction, and Mercer.
North woods family retreat
Great and spacious home in the north woods. Peaceful and beautiful lake. Loved the ability to use the paddle board and kayaks. Thank you. Lovely
This was our fifth trip to "Sachs North." The weather was spectacular--highs in the mid 80s, blue skies, and 78 degree water.
I've been all over the world, and sunsets on the dock at this wonderful lakeside retreat are among the best I've enjoyed. There is truly something magical about this place. Relax on the dock for cocktails in the late afternoon. The dock is spacious, and there is room to park your own power boat at the end.
The traffic on the lake is minimal, and there are no houses/cabins directly across. It's incredibly peaceful. There is a small island and a bigger island close by, and these are fun for day use, especially if you have children. They'll have fun playing around on these.
South Turtle is connected to Cedar Lake by a gorgeous river through quiet, unspoiled backcountry. If you're into kayaking or canoeing, this is a fun run to make. It'll take about 3-4 hours from the dock with a few very short portages. You won't see anyone else.
We didn't fish this time, but when you do see others' boats, many are fishing. I've actually scuba dived the lake, and I see tons of bass, crappie, and blue gill. Out in the middle I came upon a decent sized muskie, so I know they're down there.
The campfire ring is perfectly placed by the lake and every time we've been there, there has been ample wood. The sound of the loons at night around the campfire is eerily beautiful. Indeed, the lake is full of wildlife--loons, eagles, mergansers, etc. We love to have coffee around the campfire ring in the morning too. There's also a nice, big picnic table near the campfire area, which is a wonderful place to have a shore lunch or evening BBQ.
There are two decks as well--one out front and one out back. At any point during the day you'll be able to find sun or shade while relaxing on a deck. In fact, one of the small things I love about this place is that there is ample seating pretty much wherever you go. There are so many spots to relax around the home, and we just love that.
The walkout basement rec room is great for family fun. There is a bar, card table, game table, a large flatscreen TV, and plenty of games in the TV stand. We love spending time in the basement at night when we're not having a campfire. We found some cards and poker chips and had a blast playing Texas hold em.
I could go on and on. If you're looking for a place to relax and have some good old-fashioned family fun with all the conveniences in a great location, this is it!
We agree with everything you have said and are thrilled that you and your family have stayed at our home so often! Hope to entertain your family again next year!
This home is perfect for large groups!
We loved our stay in the North Woods! Very comfortable home for large groups!
Awesome house right on the water
We stayed here early September with our family and had an awesome time. The house is roomy, tastefully decorated, comfortable, well supplied, and has a wonderful deck overlooking the lake. It was the perfect spot for a family gathering and we’d love to return again.
Mary, you and your family are always welcome and I'm glad you were able to attend the Camp Manito-wish festivities. Wish my kids could have gone too!
Large spaces, Pet friendly, and the sunsets!
We loved our time at this Northwoods retreat. The home is very welcoming with space for all. Diane made sure our needs were met and that we had full access to all this home and lake offers! Our young adults loved the porches, boats/kayaks, games and fire pit. Us older adults loved the large well stocked kitchen/pantry, table seating for eight+, several spaces to relax, firm beds for all and the pet friendly touches! The workaholics loved the fast internet access followed by a relaxing dip in the jetted tubs! What a view from the master suite!! Thanks so much!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and were able to take advantage of all our place has to offer. Hope you caught some good fish and that you will join us again in the future!
Lots of character
This home is a dearly loved place, clearly. Our family enjoyed the down to earth feel of it and the beautiful September scenery. The owners are lovely.
We are so glad you felt that way about our home. You are welcome to return again soon!
