This is a magnificent property so I do not want to disappoint you if I cannot work with your dates and prior to booking your flights you may have the flexibility to arrive sooner or leave earlier. Also, special discount rates do not include the cleaning and resort fees.

Kolea is an oceanfront resort located on Anaeho’omalu Bay (A Bay), the only sandy beach at Waikoloa Beach Resort. The two hotels and the Waikoloa Kings’ and Queens’ Shops are within ¼ mile of Kolea, so easy walking distance if you forgot the milk or if you don't feel like cooking. The Lava Lava Beach Club offers beachfront dining as well. The property amenities include an infinity pool and lava rock Jacuzzi and the Kolea Beach Club has a sand bottom kid’s pool with a waterfall, which is great for toddlers. There is also an open-air fitness hale and a shaded lounging area.

The condo has been newly renovated and decorated with Tommy Bahama furniture and top quality electronics, including a laptop computer with printer and home theater system. Every kitchen appliance is available to make you feel at home. The owner is a coffee nut so you will be welcome by your home favorites of a Keurig, cappuccino maker and coffee grinder. Every beach toy will be waiting for you from snorkeling gear for all ages to boogie boards, beach chairs, coolers, and beach towels so you will want for nothing. Arrive to cold beer and water in the fridge and coffee in the Keurig just in case you need a pick-me-up after your long flight. Nothing is forgotten from Scrabble for those quiet evenings to a high chair and Pac-n-Play for young children. Extras such as binoculars, first aid kit, and night lights to comfort the little ones are all included.

What makes this condo unique

Oceanfront pool located right on ABay. The complex is a walk away from all the markets and the new oceanfront restaurant Lava Lava is right on site. Exercising is never fun but at Kolea you can exercise and enjoy watching the whales arcing directly in front of you. Almost takes the pain away! The property is meticulously kept and the people are very friendly. The weather is nice all year round.

Beautiful condo in a great location

My husband and I were very happy with the condo we selected for our stay on the Kona side of the island. The only reason we rated the property at four stars instead of five, is that we were just underwhelmed and disappointed by the lack of helpful information left for guests about the condo, the Kolea Beach Resort area, and the larger Waikaloa Village community that the condo sits within. This was also our first time staying in a VRBO property, and we were not expecting so many cleaning instructions. It's not exactly something you want to think about on your last day when you are trying to pack and get out the door to catch your flight, but you need to wash your beach towels, all bath towels, and start your linens - in separate loads.

The condo itself met our needs perfectly. It is in a gated community with a beautiful beach, access to a Pool and workout area, with plenty of shopping and dining options. The location allows easy travel to activities on the Kona side of the island, and is just 25 minutes from the airport. We would definitely choose to stay in the same complex on a return trip. In the hopes that the information shared with future guests can be improved, here are a few examples why it was more difficult than it should have been to navigate around the complex. Now that we have experienced the resort and figured everything out, we were baffled why the manager does not provide info on the amenities within the resort and recommendations on how to best utilize those amenities. For example, what restaurants/shops are within the Queen's and King's Shops? How do you get to A-Beach? Is it better to drive to the parking lot, or should you walk there? Do we need to bring the beach chairs stored in the carport, or are chairs available on the beach for guests? What about towels? Is there food available to purchase on the beach? What's at the Kolea Beach Club? How exactly do you enter the Club? And so on and so forth. And despite the long list of instructions we printed, much of the information was incorrect. There were two pages of typewritten instructions on how to turn on the tv using some Harmony remote, but when we arrived, that system had been replaced. The beach towels are in the closet as soon as you enter the condo - they are not in the carport. And, look for the safe on the FLOOR of the closet - it will likely be hidden by a large beach bag. The recycling is located next to the elevators, etc. Little things like these add up!

Owner's Response: Normally when I receive a review I analyze it carefully to determine what we can improve on so the next guest isn't inconvenienced. I consider a discount if they appear to be inconvenienced greatly, for any reason, but these renters took advantage of the half price discount already so a further discount would not have been considered, and in this case not felt to be warranted. This is the first time in 20 years of condo ownership I felt a necessity to address all the inaccuracies in a review. Firstly, the email sent one month before the arrival of these guests contained a link to all the activities in the Waikoloa area: http://koleacondorental.com/travel-resources. This link describes where to buy groceries, fresh fish, some great restaurants, walking trails, exactly where A Bay (the beach) is located and much much more. We send this in advance so the renters can get a feel for the area and start planning their vacation. I have found leaving it the condo doesn't give the renter time to familiarize themselves with the area in advance, and have also found it missing from the binder when the previous guest removes it to keep it as a reference. Also, upon arrival, guests will find a current copy of the Hawaii Revealed guide book by Andrew Doughty, considered the number one travel book in the industry, on the coffee table. Secondly, I have never had guests say that throwing the towels in the laundry was an excessive chore. We ask this since towels can take an usually long time to dry. We have a full sized, stacking washer and dryer available so I would think from washer to dryer would take 5 minutes at most. The fact this condo has 100% Egyptian cotton towels and 500 thread count sheets was not mentioned but might have been considered for the small inconvenience of separate loads. In addition, this renter was afforded an early entry, something that would not be possible if the previous renter had not begun the laundry process as requested. Also provided is every way to make coffee from a Keurig (which is stocked full on arrival), a cappuccino maker, a drip coffee, and for those coffee connoisseurs, a French press. There is water and beer in the fridge upon arrival and I have taught my cleaners to put a swan towel on the bed which they surround with packets of macadamia nuts. Fresh coffee for your morning breakfast is also provided and had this renter experienced any other VRBO previously she would have realized how special my unit is!

Kolea Resort

Our stay at Kolea Resort was second to none. The condo itself was beautifully decorated and offered everything we needed during our stay on the island. Our family of four found it to be very comfortable, meticulously clean, and just stunning throughout. It is surrounded with lush tropical plants and is just a short walk from the infinity pool, hot tub, and open air fitness room. Follow the trail a bit further and you are on the beach! We could not have asked for more during our seven nights on the Big Island. Absolute paradise!

Amazing accommodation!

We stayed in the 9E condo on the big island for a week in June 2017 and wished we could stay longer. The location is amazing with the beach club, closeness to A-Beach, the Lava-Lava club, walks to the Hilton and Starbucks. We have stayed in many condo/vacation rentals through VBRO/Home Away and this one by far had everything that you need to have a perfect vacation (fully stocked kitchen, beach towels, snorkel gear, etc.). If this condo is available, do not hesitate a second to snatch it up for your special time on Hawaii. 🏄?‍♀️☀️🏝?

Perfect vacation home

I can't imagine a better place to stay in the Waikoloa area. This condo was vacation home perfection -- super clean, great location, steps from the pool and beach. Most of all, the owner has thought of absolutely everything you might need during your stay. You will feel completely at home with all the convienances of home. Nearby shops and grocery were also a plus. A great stay!!
