Fun in the Sun

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed a chance to get away for a family vacation. Michael (the host) was extremely helpful, even bringing down a crockpot for us to use. We especially liked the use of kayaks, rowboat, and a rubber raft. Live jackets were provided as well. Even though the accommodations inside the cabin are quite rustic and dusty, we used the outside tables for meals and doing rock art. You can fish right off the dock and at night enjoy a huge bonfire in the firepit. We even got to see some of the Pleiades meteor shower. The kids (10 & 11) happily interacted with the labradors. The adults enjoyed using wifi outside at the table. (It doesn't function inside). Remember to bring: sheets, towels, extra blankets, toilet paper and flashlights. You're in for quite an adventure!

retreat on the lake

  • 4 of 5

This 100 year old cabin, very charming and loved, is a retreat for reading, fishing and sitting by the fire. The cabin's description is accurate, although we found the grounds a bit messy. A canoe, rowboat and 4 kayaks are available for your exclusive use and the rock beach is all yours. Mr. Black was a great host, helping us in our efforts to catch a fish, fixed a small leak in the sink, provided us a wonderful loaf of locally made bread, gave us a rock art lesson, and provided excellent recommendations for restaurants (Garcias and Jerlando's our favorites) and activities (Watkins Glen State Park and Museum of the Earth just wonderful). If you like locally made high end crafts, please look for Millport Landing, a small shop in Millport in a renovated opera house. Things to think about: You need to bring bedding and towels as well as water for drinking and cooking. There really are over 60 steep steps to access the cabin. Wifi only worked outside of the cabin. The tv picked up a few digital stations and a DVD player is available. The driveway is steep and somewhat rutted. There are at least a dozen wineries very close by. The dock is awesome. The sky is beautiful at night. You will love this place if you like the outdoors.

Peaceful & Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was just as described. Do not go expecting a 5 star resort! The location was great. Nothing like walking out your door and being feet from the lake. We left the door and windows open the whole time we were there.

Mike was a great host. He invited us up a day early since no one was there the end of the week. It was late when we got there and he was waiting for us and helped carry our necessities down the stairs. There are A LOT of steps. He has them lit up very well. He was out most every evening running fishing lines with my son. His labs would come down and the kids loved playing fetch with them in the lake. We were all able to kayak and fish in the lake.

Mike, the owner, gave us great information on the area. We went to an Amish roadside market with amazing freezer jam and the best whoopie pies ever. They had reasonably priced fresh produce as well. We went to a county fair and saw some amazing waterfalls.

We had a very relaxing vacation. We played an old pinball type game passed down in Mike's family, ladder ball, cards and did rock art. If we return to the area, we will definitely be checking this cabin for availability.

Perfect Weekend on the Lake

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a fun stay right on the lake this is it. If you want modern and new - keep looking. It an old time lake experience in a rustic but cozy cottage that sits right on the lake. Yes -down 60 steps (not recommended form small children or elderly). The owner Mike goes out of his way to make it a comfortable stay. Even adding a stove pipe for a cold night and providing a wonderful Amish baked bread upon arrival. Loved sleeping in the bed and seeing the lake and waves just feet away. His two labs were great fun and provided a warm welcome. The fire pit was perfect for the evenings and the long dock had a beautiful view down the lake. The location is prefect near many wineries and a great gourmet hot dog stand. Can't wait till next time.

Exactly what we were looking for and more!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time! When we arrived, Mike greeted us and helped us carry everything down to the cabin, actually, he carried the majority of it. Once we walked down I was amazed how accurately everything was described. Somewhat isolated and plenty of piece and quiet from the outside world. We brought our dog, buddy, on his first vacation and he loved swimming and playing with Mikes dogs.

The second day he cooked us a delicious lakeshore dinner of trout on the grille, complimented by corn on the cob and salt potatoes! He went completely out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our vacation.

The fishing was great also.. We caught 4 large lake trout, lots of bullheads and small mouth bass, 2 nice rainbow trout and one Monster 12 lbs. , 28" brown trout, all only 50-100 yards from the dock! Perfect location!

The lake frontage was perfect! Being right on the water kept us very occupied, especially with the canoe and kayaks supplied. Perfect for relaxing , cooking and having a campfire right on the water. (mike even supplied the firewood for us!). At this time of year, the sunrise was directly across the water and rising over the mountains while you drank your morning coffee.

The cottage was rustic but very nice and everything we were looking for (exactly as described)! We all had an amazing time and took home some great memories and a freezer full of fish! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing and stress free week!
