History abounds the 2.95-acres – you can feel the ‘mana,’ (power) present the moment you enter the property. Hale Kai is one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets. It provides the epitome of privacy while being steps away from every modern activity available. You won’t believe the beauty until you see it, and even then, it’s hard to believe! This is simply Hawaii living at its best.
Hale Kai is a beautiful private and gated Historic Hawaiian Estate located on nearly 3 acres of rarely available oceanfront property (500 foot frontage) right in the heart of Historic Keauhou Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii.
This newly furnished and renovated residence includes a spacious open air living room, outside dining areas (seating for 12 to 14), fully equipped kitchen and office. All share a breathtaking view of the bay and open ocean. The main residence includes a large master suite, which boasts its own private entrance and views of the bay. Adding to the extravagance of the property is the ocean side emerald blue tiled pool complete with lanai, pool side decking and guest suite. Located just behind the pool house are two spacious and separate guest hales each with their own bath and private entry.
The tropical garden stretches all the way to the water's edge to the Estate's private dock, where guests can enter the calm waters of Keauhou Bay to snorkel and swim. Enjoy a top quality private tennis court nestled on the property. This was installed by California based John Saviano in 2014.
The property is fully furnished with resort amenities including: wi-fi, cable TV, BBQ, AC, security system, and ample parking. Resident caretaker on property in a separate cottage.

For over twenty years the current owners dreamed of being able to own this property. They would vacation in Keauhou and while enjoying the water sports and sailing think about what it would be like to live and enjoy this beautiful estate. Finally in 2013 their dream became a reality and they are able to share it with you for your special vacation.
Words can't describe the endless beauty this magical property offers. I won't go to the islands again without staying at Hale Kai
Beautiful ocean views, and the site photos give a good idea of what to expect.
My family and I spent a fantastic week here. 3 kids(19, 17 and 12) and my parents(late 70's) were able to enjoy time together and still feel like everyone was able to do things they wanted. Teens able to sleep in and grown-ups able to have early morning tennis games without crowding each other. Easy access to great snorkeling right off the dock, every other day we had a sea turtle in the water right in front of the property! The pool is fantastic. The tennis court had a great surface and nice shade in the morning.
Easy walking distance to kayak rentals and the Manta ray viewing/adventure boats. Fun to see the local outrigger canoe club practices on the bay. We had mangos and papayas from the trees on the property. We so enjoyed being there it was hard to motivate everyone to go anywhere sight-seeing(but did make it to the city of refuge and 2 steps beach). We ended up getting take out or cooking most nights so we could hang out there. The nearby farmers markets on Wed. and Sat. were good. The closest supermarket also had a good deli for take-out. Very quiet area.
My girlfriend and I just returned from a wonderful 9-day stay at Hale Kai. The 3-acre garden on the property is amazingly lush with a wide variety of flowers and old-growth trees.
The highlight is the chance to stay in a home designed by Vladimir Ossipoff, a master of Hawaiian modernist architecture. His Hawaiian “lanai” or open-porch concept completely opens the living room to the outdoors and allows cool breezes to flow through the whole house. Ossipoff placed Hale Kai thoughtfully on the site amidst the large trees and stunning bay and sunset views.
We loved being away from the touristy parts of Kona but it’s also nice that there is a market and restaurants that are only a five-minute drive away. We went snorkeling at two spots that had been highly recommended by friends but we saw the most types of fish and turtles while snorkeling right off the dock.
We highly recommend staying at Hale Kai. Obviously with the pool and pool house as well as two-bedroom guesthouse, the property has room for several couples, but it was an ideal romantic spot for the two of us.
This is the most beautiful home and a idyllic vacation spot. After a stressful winter, I was rejuvenated and relaxed after my time here. I saw so many tropical fish while snorkeling off the dock, and the water was incredibly warm. My favorite part was falling asleep to the sound of the waves against the lava rock. Once you go to the Hale Kai, you won't want to leave!!
Keauhou Bay is a historic area in the Kona District of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. The name comes from ke au hou which means 'the new era' in the Hawaiian Language. A short drive south of Historic Kailua Village, the Keauhou Resort area has emerged as one of Hawaii Island’s great cultural destinations. The area is bordered on the north coast by beautiful Kahaluu Bay with the famous Kona coffee country of Holualoa just up the slopes of Mount Hualalai.
Featuring the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay and the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona, Keauhou Resort is an area blessed with sunny weather and perfect waters for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. These idyllic conditions made it a favorite hideaway of Hawaiian royalty, and today the area boasts diligently restored heiau (temples), ancient fishponds and a wealth of historical sites. Interpretive centers throughout the resort weave together the area’s present and past, making a stay in Keauhou as enriching as it is relaxing.
At night, the Keauhou area attracts manta rays that feed on microscopic plankton near the shore. You can spot these manta rays in the shallow waters off the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay, which shoots out spotlights into the plankton filled waters nightly.
