|Space||600 sq. ft.|
|Minimum Stay||14 nights|
Beautifully decorated and charming, small but cozy and comfortable for 1-2 persons. About 600 sq feet.
It has a lovely, sunny and private garden filled with trees, shrubs and flowers and great for entertaining, reading or napping. The garden is right out the back door of the living quarters, on the same level. There is a washer/dryer and storage space on the lower level in the one-car garage. The garage is not always available for parking, so please ask me about that if you are looking for a place for your car.
Each of the rooms is small. The bedroom is only 10'x10' with a closet and cabinets built into it.
Kitchen is equipped with excellent quality appliances and completely outfitted for cooking.
The house is ideally situated only 4 blocks from the B.A.R.T. station (Bay Area Rapid Transit), with underground train service to downtown (4 stops and 10 minutes) to Union Square/Westfield Shopping Center, MOMA, etc.), to the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley and beyond) and to SFO airport (20 minutes). It is also only a few blocks to MUNI busses and train; including the 44 bus, which goes to Golden Gate Park and the museums there, the 35 Eureka bus which goes to the Castro via Noe Valley and the J Church train that goes above ground to Market Street through Noe Valley and then proceeds underground to downtown.
The house is about 6 blocks from the freeway (Highway 280) on/off ramps; highway 280 connects with Highway 101 and the two offer automobile access to the entire city and Bay Area.
The house is located only 3 blocks from a great variety of shops and eateries, many well-known destinations for people coming from outside the neighborhood. These include an excellent grocery store with lots of organic produce, great products, an onsite bakery, fish and meat market and wonderful prepared foods. There is also a great local bookstore, dry cleaners, mail/shipping supply store, local branch of the public library, a great bakery café, hardware store and pet store. Neighborhood restaurants include gourmet pizza shop Gialina, Osha Thai Café, Tataki sushi, Le P’tit Laurent French bistro, La Corneta Tacqueria, Manzoni Ristorante (Italian), plus yogurt shop and cafes.
And the house is also just 3 blocks from Glen Canyon Park, one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the city; with hiking trails, lots of flowers and fauna, tennis courts, children’s play area, and baseball fields.
The Glen Park neighborhood, like all of San Francisco, is a hilly place. The walk down and up from the shops/restaurants in Glen Park "village" and the BART station is a bit steep. But the #52 bus will take you up the hill, if you prefer not to walk it.
A small, well-trained dog would be ok, but no cats, please...I'm allergic to them.
Free Netflix streaming available.
No smoking please.
I'm a painter - outdoor 'plein air' landscape and studio - living in San Francisco for 35 years and in the wonderful Glen Park neighborhood for the past 26 years, when I bought my house here. In addition to painting, I enjoy gardening and the pleasures of having a garden. I'm also a reader and traveler. Traveling around our beautiful state of California and painting the landscape is high on my list. I'm also a lifelong lover of Italy and try to get there as often as possible.
My motto: Audentes fortuna juvat! Fortune favors the bold!
Bruce Katz purchased this house in 1988
I live here, but travel sometimes to paint and see the world.
The location couldn't be better! The house is charming and the garden will be your own private park.
A perfect place to stay in a lovely residential area. The cottage is very comfortable with everything and more that you need. A beautiful private garden to relax & enjoy is an added bonus. It is just a 10-15 mins walk to public transport at Glen Park. The BART is great to travel around San Francisco & there is also some bus routes. If you do not want the walk the steep hill back to the cottage the 52 bus from Glen Park passes the cottage and the driver will obliging stop for you on the corner of Sussex Street. The manuel Bruce provided was excellent. Thank you for letting us stay in your cottage.
My husband and I had an absolutely incredible stay at Bruce's sweet little home! Amazing value for the price. We loved the art work and the three level garden in the back the most. Be sure to ask Brice about which art work is his-he won't volunteer it but he will tell you what art work is his if you ask. He has an incredible gift.
We have airbnb'd and VRBO'd many many many vacations. Bruce, from the initial contact was one of the most attentive, informative, and kindest owners we have ever delt with. Gave great recommendations, answered ever question and concern (and I ask lots of questions-just ask my husband ;)), and was very attentive to address a small ant problem that occurred while we were visiting. I wish he owned more properties in other places! I would stay there without seeing the place bc I know we would be in great hands! Thanks again Bruce for a wonderful visit!
**I will say his home is not for everyone-up an pretty steep and long hill from the train station-but for us totally worth the walk!**
This place is a gem. Located in a quiet residential area of Diamond Heights, it is perfectly located near BART and bus routes. Clean, nicely appointed and tastefully decorated, with everything one may need during their stay - from towels to utensils. The garden is amazing and provides a relaxing space. Bruce is an amazing host: communication from day one was quick, detailed and very hospitable. Everything about this place and this host left us feeling truly happy. We are staying at this place again, for sure! Many thanks, Bruce! Grazie moltissime!
It was a charming and welcoming place to stay. The apartment had diverse and interesting artwork along with eclectic collectibles. The outside garden had several levels perfect for morning coffee and starry evenings. Location was great - close to BART and with several local markets/restaurants. Bruce provided an easy to use manual that made our stay absolutely trouble free. Very happy we had a chance to stay there....
We had a fantastic time in San Fran! This home was absolutely perfect! It had everything we needed and then some. It was clean, cozy and very relaxing. We feel absolutely fortunate that we stumbled across this rental. My only issue was that we could not stay longer. Thank you for having us!!
My husband and I are grateful to have found this wonderful home for a three-week stay in our favorite San Francisco neighborhood, Glen Park. Not only was the house very comfortable and tastefully furnished but it came with a beautiful collection of art that gave us the feel of living in a fine art gallery! And take time to enjoy the beautiful, private garden, too. The Glen Park neighborhood has every amenity, is very walkable, with easy access to public transportation to take you to Golden Gate Park, downtown San Francisco, the east bay, the airport, and more. Close by Glen Canyon Park, a natural retreat in the city, is a bonus. We can't recommend this property more or Bruce Katz as a more accommodating host!
