About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Sleeps 4-6

The Court House cottage is located just steps away from Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is an easy stroll to all three of the Shaw Festival’s theaters, many diverse restaurants and some unique shops. Go out and explore the town or stay 'at home' and relax in front of the fire (with the TV on while you surf the net on your laptop). The Court House cottage is the perfect mix to get you into the historical mode of the town, while still enjoying modern conveniences.

This bungalow cottage features a large comfortable kitchenette with seating, as well as a large, unique living room with a gas fireplace and two sofas (one is a pull-out). Our cottage is well equipped with two full baths, one with a claw-foot tub. The two bedrooms have double beds and armoires. The guests to use the living room as a third bedroom, without limiting the other guests access to the bathrooms or kitchen.

About John and Lorraine

1812 Cottages are historic cottages in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake with all the conveniences of home, thus our motto ... Historic Vacation Cottages (with Newfangled Conveniences).

Why John and Lorraine chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

The Court House cottage is named because of it's location beside the Court House Theatre. There is no place closer to this theatre and the cottage enjoys all the conveniences of being in historic old town, while maintaining isolation and serenity.

The best stay in Niagara-on-the-lake and this site!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfectly appointed for our needs when we visited NOTL and the fireplace was a huge draw for my husband. John and Lorraine were amazingly helpful before the trip answering our barrage of questions, and I have to say that their listing is the first truly accurate one we have experienced using this site. {Just note that there is no freezer in the kitchen}. We had stayed closer to the Falls in previous years and felt we needed something different this time. It's still only a little under 30 minutes to the falls and if you plan to go back and forth, you must try the Niagara Parkway. The scenery is breathtaking!

The cottage is truly centrally located to everything and not having to pay for parking is a dream! Each morning we would walk across the parking lot to get coffee and a pastry from Balzac's. You must try the Epicurean dinner bistro menu and of course the Olde Angel Inn truly does have the best fish and chips and an amazing seafood shepherds pie. Just a note about the Angel... it is beyond hot in the restaurant so if you visit in winter dress accordingly! On our way out of town we stopped at the Pillittery Wine Estates and my husband bought the best wine he'd ever had.

It is truly a treat to stay in a home instead of a hotel. It adds more depth to the trip and broadens the experience. We will absolutely consider staying at this perfect cottage if we return!

Many thanks!

Convenient location, and nice facilities.

  • 4 of 5

Four of us stayed in this quaint cottage, and enjoyed our stay very much. We were pleased with how close we were to the center of town, and were delighted to be able to grab a late dinner on the evening of our arrival at the Olde Angel Inn right next door! Just the thing for tired and hungry travelers. We were able to walk to the Royal George Theatre easily, and we loved shopping at all the cute shops right around there as well. A big plus was the lovely bookstore right across the street from us. We could have walked to the Festival Theatre as well, but since my husband has a walker, we chose to drive there; very convenient and no trouble parking right there.

Comfort, charm, convenience . . .

  • 5 of 5

If you are seeking a comfortable, charming, convenient cottage in Niagara-on-the-Lake, book The Court House Cottage. This property has period charm that has been updated for comfort. It is in the heart of the village -- literally steps to one of the theaters, several eateries, the LCBO and any number of fun, stylish shops. Be sure to dine at The Olde Angel Inn, Corks, Epicurean and Shaw Wine Bar. A pleasant stroll to each one (actually Olde Angel is ten steps from the cottage). Wine country is only minutes away. Niagara attractions? You can do it all in one day. We stayed with our neighbors and friends and found plenty of room and privacy as well as the opportunity to closely share a common experience and make great memories. We will book again . . .

Just right

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very, very nice. We had everything we needed for a great week in NOTL. The cottage is in excellent condition with just enough rustic touches to make you feel at home, not in a museum. The owners came around to check on the place during the week and did a little bit of minor maintenance that could have easily waited but brought the home up to the standard I know they expect to present. We brought our two children ages 8 and 12 and we had enough space. Please note this home would be a tight fit for 4 adults for a week, but it is comfortably do-able. For a weekend 4 people would fit with no problem.

The item that really pushes this cottage to 5 stars is the location. It could not be better located for access to the theaters and restaurants. NOTL is not a late-night kind of place, but there are a couple pubs nearby if you want a nightcap. Thanks so much -- our family had an outstanding week on vacation.

The courthouse cottage was a perfect retreat only steps from the heart of downtown.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two young daughters and my sister and her husband just returned from two nights staying at the Courthouse Cottage. We booked the cottage as our accommodations for a family wedding where the majority of the wedding party was staying in a boutique hotel one block away. In an effort to find something with a little more room and at a more affordable rate we rented the cottage. From the very first inquiry to the day we arrived John and Lorraine were amazing to communicate with, and they were always incredibly prompt with their replies. The cottage is a really nice mix of historic Niagara on the lake with some modern and very comfortable upgrades such as the main bathroom. The cottage was really clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the rooms spacious, and the pull out perfect for two children or one adult. The kitchen had everything you would need for your stay, and the living room was really cozy and comfortable. The cottage is literally steps from all the action on the main street and minutes from so many incredible wineries, Kurtz Orchards ( our outstanding wedding location) and much more. There is a nice little garden area outside and easy parking for two vehicles. I truly feel that this cottage would be perfect for anyone looking for a really convenient and nice option in the heart of town. My only suggestion would be some form of an automatic or sensor light at the entrance to the driveway to light up the path through the garden to the cottage better at night. As a side note, there are so many beautiful and fun portraits throughout the cottage that I can only assume are reflective of the Shaw festival and the well known arts and theatre world of Niagara on the lake. We would stay here again without a doubt!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is the original Capital of Upper Canada from 1792 to 1797. Nestled along the shores of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, we hold the distinction of being the only municipality in Canada whose elected head holds the title of Lord Mayor.

Each year millions of people from around the world travel here to experience our Town’s unique charm and historic sites, including Fort George and Brock’s Monument; period-restored heritage homes, top-flight golf courses, breath-taking parks and gardens, as well as over 30 wineries and countless vineyards, many of which produce our world-class ice wine.

In 2012 we launched the 200th commemoration of the War of 1812. Lasting from 1812 to 1814, and was the only time any country invaded Canada. in 1814, the Town’s Bicentennial Committee will continue to host a range of historical re-enactments and special events dedicated to our role as a major battle site leading to the creation of modern-day Canada.

We hope you will enjoy our Old Town shopping district, which boasts of a number of quaint shops, boutiques and restaurants, fine hotels, spas and bed & breakfast establishments, as well as public and private art galleries, the centuries-old Court House, museums, and of course, the renowned Shaw Festival Theatre.
