About Craig & Julie Frederick

We have lived in the south of France since 1986, first in Montpellier and then in Nîmes. Craig works offshore in the Oil Industry whilst Julie works for BA as air crew.

Craig & Julie Frederick purchased this house in 2005

Why Craig & Julie Frederick chose Uzes - Pont du Gard

Mas des Mirabelles has all the charm of an original 18th century mas, but has all the modern features to make it very confortable both in summer and winter....log burn fires, gas central heating with floor standing iron radiators. In summer, the thick stone walls keep the house cool and fresh. The 400m2 lawn around the pool also has a unique way of keeping the air fresh during the heat of the summer days, and at night, lighting and the pool house adds to the evening....

What makes this house unique

Large private grounds 1400m2, large pool, completely private and fenced off, no one to overlook the grounds or house. Games include croquet and table tennis. 10 chasie longs and enough towels and mattresses for everyone.

Heaven on earth!

I'm not going to make a long and drawn out description of this place because the photos should speak for themselves! This place really is idyllic if you're after a rural retreat. Eight of us went last year to celebrate a friends birthday and we couldn't have chosen a better place - we really did have a great time. A car is necessary really but there is also a local taxi driver who ferried us all back and forth to Uzes on the occasions we decided to eat out.

The owners are lovely and will go out of their way to accommodate you and make sure everything is the way you want it.

French Country Comfort

  • 5 of 5

If you want to stay in a classic rambling French country villa, this is your place. It is as described though The photos don't do it justice. Beds are very comfortable, with good cotton linens, the house feels like home. Our hosts were accessible and very helpful, the house has all that you need. Uzes and San Quentin la Poterie are close and both lovely villages with plenty to enjoy. Country walks are right out the door. My only complaint is that I didn't get to stay longer and spend more time relaxing by the pool.

An Idyllic Villa

  • 5 of 5

Craig and Julie could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. The property, pool and grounds were clean, inviting and completely in keeping with the listing. No detail was too small. Our family of 5 (3 kids under 10) had a fabulous time loving the pool and the very stylish and French country feel to the Villa. Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie was an easy 3 minute drive to collect pastries and food essentials. The local Butcher has a restaurant attached - La Cuisine Du Boucher - if you fancy a good steak or burger. Uzes was an easy 5 minute drive if you fancy more variety. We'd happily recommend the property to family and friends. We'll be back. Marshall Family, London

An enjoyable holiday in the Uzège

  • 4 of 5

We spent a very happy week staying at Mas des Mirabelles and filled the house with our family party of ten. The property is very conveniently located close to Uzès and with Avignon and Nîmes nearby, and the famous Pont du Gard - lots of some of the finest surviving Roman remains are in the region. Uzès itself is a lovely old city with much to enjoy, both historically, food-wise, architecturally or on the trail of fine wine - 'Duché d'Uzès' is one of France's newest AOPs and well worth exploring and tasting (

The house is very close to the charming village of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, whose name tells you immediately what it is famous for - there are pottery workshops and retail outlets throughout the village, full of wonderful and very varied pottery...everyone can find a style and design they would like. By a quirk of history, this village of potters became the birthplace of Joseph Monier, the inventor of reinforced concrete; which explains why the open roofed structure at the centre of the marketplace is made of the material Monier invented!

Mas des Mirabelles is best described as having real 'caractère' - it is a small extended old Mas, which has been thoughtfully and pleasantly, quirkily decorated inside, which includes a wonderful and large antique bath one could sink into and wallow at one's pleasure. The design has the kitchen, sitting room, terrace and swimming pool with surrounding sitting-out area and barbecue, all closely connected - helpful for a party comprising three generations.

Up the road is Lussan, a beautiful, walled, hill-top village that is definitely worth a visit. Its very quiet, but has a few places where one can drink and eat. The view from its ramparts is extensive - from here one can even see the Alps.

Avignon is a 'must see' - its a great city, positively bursting with history and antiquity. One has to step sir le Pont d'Avignon, where on y danse...naturally.

Nîmes is a little disappointing compared with Avignon, but in its favour does have the most perfectly preserved Roman temple in the world, which is best seen from outside (so no need to queue to see the inside) and a still-used Roman amphitheatre, where one can watch a bull fight (if you choose to) or other event depending on the schedule.

Visit the Pont du Gard via canoe and avoid the crowds - its one of France's top 3 most visited sites.

After your stay, you will surely be pleased to return to the Uzège.

A beautifully quirky and lovely house

  • 5 of 5

This place is just as it describes on the web site. It has been lovingly restored and decorated by the owners Craig and Julie and it had a lovely relaxing feel about the whole house. Round every corner you discover another unusual feature. We went for 2 weeks with several friends and family visiting for a few days at a time. They all loved it. Prior to us arriving I had several questions and emailed them. Craig answered everything promptly and then when we were staying in the Mas, any text messages to Julie asking questions about local places to visit or things to do with the house she also dealt with really quickly. It is well equipped and we will certainly choose it again if we come to the area in the future.

Good rest but different

  • 3 of 5

Definitely interesting place with old fashion style re-interpretated and outdated.

We had good rest although the place does not deliver the modern comfort we are used to...

Some maintenance needed (swimming pool deck, terrasse, ...) but nothing dramatic yet.

The proximity of Uzes makes a lot, such a beautiful old city well renovated and the owners are nice and welcoming.
