About Allison Spillman

A transplanted New York and former clinical psychologist, I started coming to the Catskills about 20 years ago. I retired in 2001 to move here full-time. I spent much of my time, when not snowmobiling, skiing or enjoying the great outdoors, working on and maintaining several properties which I acquired in the area over the years. Many of these houses were in poor condition and required a lot of hard work. Through this experience and over the years I have acquired the ability to personally renovate and fix virtually anything required, although I often leave the heavy lifting to some of the guys. some of the projects I have personally completed include installation of a metal barn roof, installation of gas and plumbing lines, electrical retiring, restoration, refinishing and installation of wood moldings, trim and doors, tiling bathrooms and kitchens, cabinet installation, exterior and interior painting, which entails professional grade methods. And I could go on and 5-7 years ago I was ready to apply these skills to the house you see listed here. It had been quite neglected over the past 50 years or so. Wherever possible, I tried to maintain the original essence of this house, while upgrading to modern convenience when necessary. For example, I maintained the original windows, yes they are drafty, and spent much time meticulously restoring and installing original hardware. I think here you can get an idea of me. I am an honest, trustworthy, hard-working independent soul. I want to share this house because I know how special it is. My current circumstances take me to other parts of the Northeast, and I hate to see it empty and unused.

If there is anything less than one Star I will give it to this property

I booked this house for my family to stay for a wedding we had in Andes, NY because it was advertised as new renovated. On entering the house on Saturday, 2nd July, the house was very dirty, dusty and had terrible smell. Anybody that enters can easily perceive the dust air throughout the house. Every room in the house was very dirty, dusty and smelly. In the toilet there was a broken bottle. There was trash in the trash can in the kitchen. The kitchen pans were very dirty and black. The sheets on the beds were so dirty and dusty that you cannot even sit down on the bed. One of the closest upstairs contained old dirty clothes, shoes and a very dirty bathroom robe. The chairs in the lounge were very dirty and dusty that one cannot sit on it. The floors of the house were very dirty and dusty. There were packs of meat and bottles of beer the fridge that I don’t know how long it has been there. There were spider cobwebs everywhere. The dust accumulated on the ceiling fan in the kitchen was so thick that is very visible. There was nail sticking out from the wall inside the house by the stair case.Do not waste you time and money booking this property.

I called the owner and was telling her what I saw and she as not even accepting it. She was telling that they just clean the house. How can you clean a house and there is not less than 2 months accumulation of dust in the house. She later sent to people which she told me were the house keeper to come a look at the house and they confirm the thing to her.

I have to emergency booking of another a hotel nearby to stay and change our wedding plan the same night as we cannot stay in this dirty house with kids. Please do not waste your money and time with this house. I am currently fighting to get my money back.

Owner's Response: I have owned this house for approx. 15 years, Over the last several years I embarked on an extensive renovation of this house Which entailed, among other things, a new roof, extensive plaster repair to the walls, painting the interior and exterior, professionally refinished floors, refinishing of original interior chestnut woodwork, trim and hardware, and complete renovation of two bathrooms and kitchen. Regarding the kitchen, the subfloor and structure was leveled, a tile floor was installed, new cabinets, stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops. The bathrooms admittedly are not modern spa like affairs, but rather retain the period style suitable to the house. Having completed this work, the house over the last several years has had very minimal use, confined to my own occasional personal use. This is the first year I have listed it as a VRBO, and the complainant above is my second rental. So I I am still working out some kinks. However I was surprised by the extreme extent of this persons complaints, as I had just been at the house about two to three weeks prior where I spent an extensive amount of time vacuuming and steam cleaning every surface. All sheets, pillow cases and blankets were freshly laundered by me. admittedly, I had overlooked the dusty fan, some cobwebs! And the small amount of trash in the can, (mostly paper towels). had two people at the house willing to address their concerns, but they refused. All of their complaints could have been easily addressed. They were asked where the nail was, but couldn't point it out. The nail was later easily removed. Apparently a small antique vase in the upstairs bathroom had some how broken, not sure how, but certainly not a big deal. The fact that they referred to freshly laundered beds as "dirty", complained about two bottles of beer in the fridge and two packages of frozen chicken in the freezer and that they actually mentioned health hazards and medical bills says to me there was a level of extreme exaggeration in their experience. I can't help but feel that this house was a bad match and they were not looking for a charming and comfortable Victorian, but rather something sterile and perhaps brand new. I hope that anyone interested in my house will overlook this strong negative reaction and give me a second chance. This house really is special and unique. I have had 3 bookings since with no complaints
