About Frank Bogensic, Jr.
Mom & Dad (Mary & the late Frank Bogensic Sr.) took over the cottage business from Ms. Maude Harkness with the purchase of the property in '69/70. Since then there have been many changes, including the addition of indoor plumbing to the rustic cottages and a modest marina at the lakeside. The outhouses are gone, yet the rustic atmosphere remains in other ways. The peace and quiet of the lakeside hasn't changed since Mr. Swan originally built the cottages in the 1920's. We welcome you to the 'Hilltop' and hope that you'll become another of our loyal clients. All the best, Frank Bogensic Jr.

Quiet little gem overlooking Lake Erie Inner Bay
Hilltop Cabins at the base of the small village of St. Williams are a wonderful place to enjoy a quiet, relaxing holiday or longer stay. There are a few cabins available from small to quite large, very well kept and clean. The proprietors are very friendly and accomodating, and live on site to offer help in any way possible. The view from the cabins, high up on the hill is incredible, overlooking the small marina of 50-60 boat slips below. Although we are not fisher-people per se, I understand the perch fishing in the inner bay is as good as you'll find anywhere. You are centrally located between Port Dover, Turkey Point, Port Rowan and Long Point, and a short drive along Front St. was most enjoyable and scenic. A most enjoyable stay and very reasonably priced IMO.
Our family deeply appreciates the loyal support of all our customers. Whether it be your first summer season at the 'Hilltop' or the 45th, we strive to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. Your referrals are the majority of our repeat customers and we're very fortunate to have friends like you sharing your experiences with others. Thank you! Sincerely, The Bogensic Family
Nothin fancy...clean cabins, great views of the lake...plenty of interesting things to do in area; next time will bring fishin skiff & explore these waters. No extra charge for dockage...will stay again
Yes, small craft dockage is always available for a modest extra charge. If you're staying all summer, then seasonal dockage rates do apply. Please call us in advance with the beam, length and draft dimensions to ensure we reserve the best slip for your boat. Thank you very much for sharing your impressions and for the positive comments.
One Prowler Boat
I cant say enough great things about this Marina. The view is fantastic and just looking is enough, but to be out on the Bay and experience the thrill of this great place is just awesome. My family never stops asking when were going back to Hiltop Marina in St Williams to enjoy more great hospitality and beautiful scenery. Thank you for having us and were hoping to be back again this year and many more to come. Two Buoys and a Lab
St. Williams Conservation Reserve (SWCR) is only 5 minutes by car north of Hilltop Lodge. It is composed of 1034 hectares of Crown land. SWCR is one of the largest blocks of forest and other natural habitats in the Carolinian life zone of southern Ontario. It is recognized regionally, provincially, and nationally for its exceptional biological diversity and its globally imperiled oak savanna. The reserve includes two large but separate tracts of Crown land, the Nursery Tract, and the Turkey Point Tract located next to Turkey Point Provincial Park. The conservation reserve is on the Norfolk Sand Plain, deposited as a large delta in a glacial lake. Well formed sand dunes are prominent features on the Nursery Tract, but less frequent on the Turkey Point Tract. The dunes in SWCR are prone to wind erosion in the absence of vegetation cover and underlying root mat.
The total area covers 1034 hectares (2,554 acres). The ecological communities found in the Reserve include oak savanna, oak woodland, other tallgrass communities, sand barrens, forests, wetlands and streams supports one of the highest concentrations of species at risk in Ontario and Canada. The St. Williams Dwarf Oak Forest comprises a portion within the larger, publicly owned tracts of the St. Williams Crown Lands. The whole site has been the focus of intense conservation efforts in the past few years, and groups such as the Norfolk Field Naturalists have lobbied the provincial government to protect this extraordinary ‘hot spot’ for species at risk. Among the many species at risk known to occur at the St. Williams Crown Lands are American Chestnut, Eastern Flowering Dogwood, Dwarf Chinquapin Oak, American Ginseng, Sptted Wintergreen, Bird’s-foot Violet and many other rare species. Make Hilltop Lodge your base for adventure and natural explorations. Whether on the water or in the woodlands, you'll discover the unique beauty which makes this place a world-recognized biosphere reserve. Relax at 'Hilltop Lodge'.
HELPFUL HINT: We have found that the various mapping sites on the web often contain mistakes. Therefore, if you are using any such maps double check it with satellite images such as Google Earth and your GPS or in-vehicle navigation system. The GPS Co-ordinates indicated mark the St. Williams Lighthouse & our Marina entrance channel. The easiest way to find Hilltop Lodge is navigate to the town of Saint Williams, go South & watch for the signs at the left (east) side of the road. From St. Williams, you'll be heading south on Townline Street till it goes down a steep hill with a slight turn to the left. Just as you're approaching this downhill slope put on your left turn signal and watch for the entrance sign to Hilltop Lodge as you're descending. If you get to the water you just went a little too far. Make a U-turn and go back a few hundred feet.
