Unit: Kula Treat | Maui Guidebook
This ground-level, two bedroom suite is in a private Upcountry home, tucked away in a quaint residential neighborhood close to the Kula Lodge Restaurant, local farmers market and small grocery store. (see below for more details about Kula.) The friendly owner lives in the attached house upstairs and is readily available if needed, while still affording guests full privacy.
This is a clean, comfortably furnished apartment-type rental with two pretty big bonuses you rarely find in this price range: A private hot tub with sun deck, and a bonus bedroom – living space. The bonus room includes a queen sofa sleeper, dining table, closet, and work bench that guests have remarked are perfect for setting up computers and/or sharing with an additional guest/couple. New bedding, bath and beach towels are provided as well. This suite is equipped with wireless internet along with Cable TV, including premium channels such as Showtime and HBO.
The kitchenette includes fridge, microwave, toaster-oven and two-burner hot plate. Of course all the must have amenities are included – coffee maker, dishes, glasses, tableware for four and cookware. The shared high quality front-load washer and dryer are right outside the kitchenette.
The grounds offer a variety of mature fruit trees including Meyer lemons, oranges, haas avocados, mangoes and cherimoya. Guest have a reserved off street parking spot.
Kula is cooler than the resort areas, and centrally located, which is why many Maui residents choose to live here. For active visitors, you can plan on seeing a large variety of what Maui has to offer using Kula as your base.
Convenience-wise, Haleakala Crater, Upcountry, North Shore and the Back Side of Haleakala (to Hana) and Kipahulu (aka Seven Sacred Pools) are all a much more easily accessed from this location than the resort areas in West and South Maui. Here is our general article about Upcountry.

The owner was very helpful and was able to provide us with many ideas as to what we could do while visiting Maui. The apartment had plenty of room and was downstairs from the owner but there is plenty of privacy.
If you'd like to see the other (upcountry) part of Maui, this is a great place to just stay and relax or use as a hub for all your island adventures. Soaking in the hot tub day or night offers beautiful views, extreme peace and quiet, and good birdwatching. Everything you need is provided, and Pamela is a thoughtful and generous hostess. Besides all the basics you might need, we got two yoga mats and warm jackets for the sunrise summit of Haleakala. We hope to return.
We are from Germany and this was our second time on Maui, first time in Kula. And if we ever get there again, we would for sure stay at the Kula Treat again. Everything was great from the first conract until we checked out. The owner is a lovely and very helpful person, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the house is located in a beautiful neighborhood with a pretty view. Also for visiting the Haleakala this is was the perfect location. We can't wait to come back. Mahalo!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Kula Treat. The rooms were very nice and well kept. We loved having the kitchen as we eat a special diet and like to prepare our own food. Our host was very thorough making sure we understood how everything on the property functioned so we could be on our own and informed us of all the restaurants and shopping that was available in the area. The spa was a very appreciated special treat after a day of hiking on Haleakala. The sky is beautiful at night and the property is very quiet and peaceful.
The hostess was extremely accommodating, helping us with great places to eat and hike throughout Maui. She is very familiar with the island which is a plus. Before arriving, she answered my questions promptly and in good detail. I would not hesitate returning.
My husband and I stayed at the Kula Treat a couple nights for our 10-yr anniversary and had a great experience. The host was friendly and professional, it was spacious and clean, very quiet and peaceful, a good deal, had an extra room and was self-contained. We loved lying in the jacuzzi when it was chilly at night and gazing at the stars. The fragrance of trumpet flowers was so strong you could even smell it in the bedroom. Also enjoyed the view of the island and the bamboo outside the window... and the lemon tree! The bed was also super comfy and soft. We would highly recommend this place and will probably come back again!
“Upcountry” is as much a lifestyle as it is a place. Many people who live Upcountry consider themselves to be quite different from those fancy “city-slickers” who live in paces like Kahului, Wailuku, Kihei or West Maui. Take the “up” off and you have the closest translation of what this term would mean on the mainland: “Country” (with a capital C!)
