This is a unique spot nestled in the oaks and pines of the Camden Hills where the Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River. The renovated 3-bedroom/2-bath farmhouse faces south with views of the upper river basin and the Camden Hills. Loons call throughout the summer and eagles are occasionally spotted fishing from atop the pines. This is a great rental for a relaxing get-away or as a home base for day trips to Acadia, coastal drives, kayak outings on the river or lake, or day hikes in the Camden Hills State park.
Our house is about 3 miles from downtown Camden's harbor shops and restaurants. Fall & Winter rentals feature close proximity to The Camden Hills State Park for hiking and 'leaf peeping', and the Camden Snow Bowl.
The 3-bedrooms feature a flexible set-up that can comfortably accommodate six, but can stretch to eight with advance planning and available air mattresses. The largest bedroom (25' X 12') features a king bed (or two twins) with adjoining seating area, or it can be converted to large dorm-style room arranged with up to 4 twin beds. A second bedroom features a queen bed that can be arranged with an in-room antique crib or additional twin bed. The adjacent 'loft' area has another queen bed. The loft overlooking the living area is accessible through the second bedroom. There are also two long couches and inflatable mattresses for your use, and a well-drained lawn if the kids want to sleep in their tent.
The home has two full bathrooms: a main floor with single sink and stall shower; and a second floor master bath with dual sinks, a whirlpool tub and separate walk in tiled shower.
The living areas feature a flexible living zoned design with lots of windows with views of the outdoors. Living areas include a cook's kitchen, dining room, library/game area, TV room and living/sitting room with a wood stove.
We provide wireless internet and basic cable with DVD, and a stereo system. Outside is a small deck by the back door, and a second larger shady deck off the french doors from the living room, and sited next to a trickling koi pond ringed by wildflowers; a vegetable garden with seasonal herbs and greens for your use and a loose stone patio that overlooks the river, and is equipped with a gas bbq.
This property is just a short walk to Hodson Park, a favorite fishing spot where Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River. It is a short drive to Barrett's Cove swimming beach (Megunticook Lake) off Beaucaire Road, and in the other direction to the Megunticook boat launch.
The property is provided with fresh linens and towels, and the kitchen is stocked with basic provisions like salt, sugar and oil. Please feel free to request a stocked frig option with a selection from fresh local markets. Laundry is onsite, or an in-town drop-off service is available.
We look forward to your stay, and please call or email if we can help you navigate the booking process. Thank you.
Bedrooms each have a multi-speed ceiling fan, including a high speed fan over the lofted living room, although midcoast Maine generally does not need it with famously temperate days and cool nights.
We look forward to answering any of your questions, and to having you vacation in our home on the beautiful Midcoast of Maine.
Paul's home is peaceful and beautiful! Nestled in the moist Maine woods with all the comforts of a cosmopolitan home. Books, antiques, and paintings galore decorate this beautifully remodeled home. It is located just below Lake Megunticook. A extremely short walk to the lake or it's outflow river. I hope we are back soon! Thanks Paul!
This old colonial house has been lovingly renovated and decorated by the owners--an antiques dealer and painter. Each room has its own personality and offers a feast of interesting books, original paintings, furniture and views. The house is set just above the river on a large and private lot. It's only minutes from Camden so it offers a perfect peaceful country getaway. The owners couldn't be more pleasant and helpful and the house is very clean and well maintained.
We were delighted to stay here on our way up to Acadia. Truly a home away from home for those who want to get off the beaten path but still be close to Camden and Rockport restaurants and shopping.
The house is roomy, comfortable and has a great kitchen. Upstairs the bathroom offers a jacuzzi along with two sinks - so you can brush your teeth at the same time as your partner. It was sooooo nice to
soak after a chilly day hiking up Bald Rock Mountain in Camden Hills State Park. If you come definitely check out the park, the views of the coast from the mountain are phenomenal.
We loved hanging out on the deck in the back yard, reading books next to the water fall and small fish pond. A short walk down the road is a lake where you can fish and picnic. There is a propane grill to barbecue out doors, which we did two nights instead of driving into Camden to eat, which can be expensive.
The owners are artists and collectors and the house is filled with antiques, curios and art work so it's not your typical vacation rental. We loved our stay and will certainly come again.
Our hosts Richard and Paul made our week in Camden, Maine an amazing and luxurious vacation! They helped us with tips on what to do, where to go, and all the beautiful sites not to be missed, as well as all the great antique stores in a 50 mile radius! These two are professional hosts! their kitchen was well stocked to host a gourmet dinner for 12, and plenty of cereal, coffee, etc. The bathrooms are beautful, and the second floor bathroom is huge, with a soaking jacuzzi tub and double marble sinks. The house is spacious and welcoming, we are looking forward to our next stay!
Quiet and chill. The best stop on our vacation in Maine. We were looking for a place midway enroute to Acadia from Portland and found a gem of a spot—just so happened during the Camden regatta and got a chance to see all of the boats coming in.
The best place if you want to be both close to nature and go out to eat—make reservations at Francine's Bistro in Camden. Molyneaux was just far enough away from the town to enjoy the quiet of Maine. A cozy place to come back to after a day of swimming and hiking.
Clearly a labor-of-love, the house is well designed and maintained. Our son adored chasing the fish in the lake and hunting for frogs in the garden. And the early morning fishing across the street.
Definitely plan on coming back!
This is a very tasteful and comfortable home just a few minutes from downtown Camden and close to the rest of the beautiful midcoast of Maine. The rental process went very smoothly, by simple email and phone - no surprises. Once there, our group of four adults had great meals in Camden Rockport and Rockland, and returned to relax in a comfortable nicely furnished house with great views and peace and quiet. And the dog was welcome (older lab). What's not to like? Definitely Reccomend!
