Enjoy yourself in your own country estate in Tuscany, with a private pool attached! The 19th century Tuscan farmhouse villa and converted barn are set in their own land, 17 acres of the most charming countryside, eight minutes' walk from the historic town of San Gimignano. Close to San Gimignano (one of the most perfect medieval towns in Italy), offering complete rural seclusion and good-sized private pool (36' by 18'), and terraces on which to dine in the open air, while looking at the views. There is easy access to Siena, Florence and Volterra. The main house has just been equipped with a brand new marble and terracotta kitchen & terrace, with BBQ and outside dining furniture & views. The second house, the newly converted barn, is self-contained, and also has patios with views on which to dine! Barn and house can be rented together or separately (if separately, there is the possibility that the pool might be shared).
The main house: The main house was built in the 19th century and is a picturesque, typical Tuscan farmhouse. The farm is still called by its original name of 'Docciola', which refers to the spring ('doccia') in the middle of the land which in all weathers produces pure and cool water. The living-room (30 x 20 feet) has an open wood-beam fireplace for burning wood in winter and spring, and is furnished with sofas, chairs and a large dining table. As mentioned above, there is now a brand new marble and terracotta kitchen with superb views, with doors leading to an outdoor terrace.
Bedrooms: Upstairs in the main house are four bedrooms, two have double beds and two have two single beds. On the same floor there is a large bathroom with bath and shower and toilet as well as a separate wc. There is additionally a double bedroom reached from the outside at the side of the house.
Barn: The barn has just been converted to a high standard. It is a traditional Tuscan building, restored and converted into extra self-contained accommodation. It consists of a kitchen, a sitting and dining-room, and two bedrooms. The smaller bedroom is on the ground level near the bathroom which has shower, basin, bidet and loo; the double bedroom, reached by a pretty spiral wrought-iron staircase, has a particularly lovely outlook across the fields.
The barn is an extremely pretty recently converted building from the last century, very close to the large swimming pool, and with all 'features' preserved, such as the arched windows. It sleeps four. The master bedroom is upstairs, with gorgeous views on either side of the double bed, and straight ahead too! It is reached by a charming spiral staircase. Below is the small but charming kitchen, neatly equipped, and with a dining area - although you might prefer to eat outside on the terrace. There is a spacious sitting-room, with tremendously high ceiling, and patios with views. And there is another bedroom with two single beds.
Tucked away down the end of a steep gravel drive is this beautiful little Tuscan oasis. My family and I stayed in the barn for 4 nights in July it was one of the highlights of our trip.
The barn is wonderfully equiped and very comfortable - and very close to the beautiful pool. We spent our mornings wandering around San Gimignano and the afternoons in the pool. The track to the town is very steep so if you are not an active person this place is not for you.
The property was tastefully decorated and very clean.
We would loved to have stayed longer and plan to come back again soon. I would definitely recommend this property.
Nice property. We were in the converted barn. It is 10 mins walk from SanG, and the initial part is up a steep gravel track, but this is a small price to pay for the peace and tranquility that this property provides. You have all that SanG offers and at the same time you can laze by the lovely pool.
The owner was a joy to deal with, sending up the keys with almost no notice what so ever. The directions to the place are very good, as well as some of the other tips she gave.
I would happily(and already have) recommend this property to friends, and can see me going back myself.
One quick tip, if you are taking the train to Florence, go to Certaldo and park the car there as it is free and the station is easier to find.
Docciola, the Tuscan farmhouse villa and the converted barn, are a few minutes' walk from the historic medieval town of San Gimignano, situated in the very heart of Tuscany, half an hour away from Siena, an hour's drive from Florence. The great works of renaissance art are a short drive away!
