Gorgeous Home in a Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

The Taggart House was built in 1850 and has all the period details one could wish for, enhanced by the updates done a couple of years ago. In looking for a place where our family from several states could gather for a few days, we found the listing; having just returned from our visit, I can attest it lived up to the previous reviews and more. In fact, we enjoyed the house so much, we ended up just relaxing there more than we expected. Although the house is large, the rooms are all "homey" feeling and comfortable furniture abounds, including a wonderful little reading nook near the top of the main staircase! It was great fun to explore all the rooms, deciding for ourselves which was our "favorite of the minute," before discovering another favorite area. For the larger group thinking of staying, we found no problems with the showers (hot water for multiple showers per morning was plentiful); the kitchen was easily maneuverable with plenty of room for several people to work at once, the grill provided an alternative to indoor cooking, and we even baked brownies in the oven; beds were comfortable with full bathrooms in each room; the lawns and gardens - front and back - were spacious, well cared for, and inviting (including a hammock); there was plenty of parking; and it was an easy, short walk to Stockbridge Center. I hate to sound like a brochure, but there really isn't anything that I can criticize about The Taggart House, our stay this past week, or our host, who was willingly available by phone and E-mail for anything needed. If you are looking for a large HOME to enjoy time with family and/or friends that is private without being secluded, you will not be sorry you've visited.

Perfect for a Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Taggart House in order to host our family's Passover Seder. The beautiful house is perfect for a large family gathering - both elegant and comfortable. The dining room was easily arranged to fit our 20+ guests. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to work in. The six bedrooms are spacious and nicely decorated, each with their own bath - all as described in the listing. The owner is on-premises, very responsive, welcoming and accommodating. The location in the center of Stockbridge is convenient to everything. Highly recommended!

Perfect Thanksgiving spot!

  • 5 of 5

The Taggart House was an absolutely perfect house and location for a large holiday gathering. Spacious, well-equipped, beautifully decorated yet comfortable with great kitchen and comfy beds, we couldn't have found a nicer place for Thanksgiving. The owner George was easy to contact and very responsive, helpful and friendly. I inadvertently left a bag behind and he was nice enough to ship it to me at home. If you're looking for the iconic Betkshire experience, the Taggart Hiuse is for you!

Three generation family vacation

  • 5 of 5

In June 2015 our family enjoyed the best vacation in memory. The bedrooms are large and luxurious as are the six bathrooms. The back yard is beautifully manicured. We set up a splashing pool for the babies. There was room for badminton or croquet. The house is in the center of town, allowing us to walk to shops, historic sites and three public parks. Hiking is also close to home. Bicycling could be flat or hilly. Located in the heart of the Berkshires, its attractions are all minutes away. The house is amazing. The breakfast room seats eight and the dining room seats 12. The billiards room provides a classy activity for young and old. The kitchen is large and well appointed. Four people preparing dinner will not get in one another's way. The owner, George, lives on site and is always available to answer a question and help out. For all this rental provides, it is a tremendous value compared to staying in a hotel.

Amazing Home!

  • 5 of 5

This fantastic mansion has it all. We were five retired couples who came north to enjoy the fall foliage. George was very nice and easy to deal with on our booking. Everyone had a comfortable, large room with their own bathroom and plenty of towels. The Taggart home is beautifully decorated by the owners. There are too many extras to name but the pictures on VRBO are exactly as advertised. The home is located within easy walking distance to Stockbridges' famous pub (The Lion's den) and restaurant (The Red Lion Inn). We enjoyed the short walk to the Kripalu Center for Yoga just above the town, with a great view . Some of our group biked to The Stockbridge Bowl (Lake Mahkeenac). Don't miss the graveyard and finding the "Sedgewick Pie" family plot. Reading the tombstones is fascinating. The only downside was we were not able to use the ballroom with its wonderful wood paneling and balcony, as it was closed off during our visit. But the house is so huge we had lots of places to hang out; coffee in the sun room every morning and a wonderful fire in the comfortable living-room every night. The five star rating is well deserved.
