Having looked at over 80 properties for purchase in the Bershires, the Taggart House is truly unique. This property is perfectly situated within 15 minutes of all the amenities and attractions in the southern Berkshires. This fully restored Victorian estate is a 5 minute walk to the center of Stockbridge, yet quietly situated on 3 manicured acres along the Housatonic River.
The Taggart House is the perfect home for entertaining. With six large bedroom suites, a large formal dining room, a billiards room, an eat-in kitchen, a cozy reading room, a huge family room, and an optional grand ballroom for events, the Taggart House is both hospitable and opulent.
Our ever growing family always looks forward to our annual getaway in the Berkshires. From grandparents, young parents, to little ones, the Taggart House has all that we could wish for! Kids can wander laps around the grand rooms. So much to explore! Adults can cozy up in reading nooks, nap nooks, and cookie nooks. Cooks will have fun in the large format kitchen with butlers pantry. Rare to find a house with en suite bathroom for all bedrooms. Enjoyed our walks to the town center and exploring ye old cemeteries and local architecture. Also close driving distance to grocery, antique shopping, restaurants and outlet shopping. Plus bonus, the owner, George, is the host with the most! We felt right at home! Would definitely recommend to large families looking for moments to gather as well as have private moments for R & R.
Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed staying at the Taggart House over the holidays. The house is so large that even our group of 12 never once felt cramped. Given the owner also lives on the property, it was very convenient if we needed him to show us something in the house, yet he never once intruded or made us felt like he was keeping tabs on our stay. The location right on Main Street was ideal, as popular places to visit such as the Red Lion were only a five minute walk away. The house has a very traditional feel yet is also updated with more modern amenities (great wifi, Netflix on TVs, double ovens, etc). All in all it was a great stay, and we're already talking about returning next year!
Absolutely gorgeous historic house. We were there last MLK weekend. Very close to Butternut and other ski areas. Incredibly spacious with multiple bedrooms each with its own bath. Perfect for more than one family. Great room and dining room were really highlights.
My family has been trying to get together for a reunion for years, and when we found the Taggart House we knew we'd found the perfect place for our group of 12. The house is stunning - open, airy floor plan, a fun mix of antiques and modern touches, and plenty roomy for our crew. Each couple had their own bedroom and full bath, and the kitchen and dining room perfectly accommodated our evening meals. The billiard room was a great place for gathering around in the evening with a fun activity at the center of the conversation - and during the lazy days, everyone could find their own nook or corner to read a book, watch TV, or catch a quick nap. The location is also ideal, just a few minutes' walk from downtown Stockbridge and an easy drive to tons of fun adventures. I'd recommend the place to anyone looking for a combination of luxury and fun with family and friends!
The Taggart House was built in 1850 and has all the period details one could wish for, enhanced by the updates done a couple of years ago. In looking for a place where our family from several states could gather for a few days, we found the listing; having just returned from our visit, I can attest it lived up to the previous reviews and more. In fact, we enjoyed the house so much, we ended up just relaxing there more than we expected. Although the house is large, the rooms are all "homey" feeling and comfortable furniture abounds, including a wonderful little reading nook near the top of the main staircase! It was great fun to explore all the rooms, deciding for ourselves which was our "favorite of the minute," before discovering another favorite area. For the larger group thinking of staying, we found no problems with the showers (hot water for multiple showers per morning was plentiful); the kitchen was easily maneuverable with plenty of room for several people to work at once, the grill provided an alternative to indoor cooking, and we even baked brownies in the oven; beds were comfortable with full bathrooms in each room; the lawns and gardens - front and back - were spacious, well cared for, and inviting (including a hammock); there was plenty of parking; and it was an easy, short walk to Stockbridge Center. I hate to sound like a brochure, but there really isn't anything that I can criticize about The Taggart House, our stay this past week, or our host, who was willingly available by phone and E-mail for anything needed. If you are looking for a large HOME to enjoy time with family and/or friends that is private without being secluded, you will not be sorry you've visited.
