Overview

About the property

Spectaular views, spacious contemporary open plan living, perfect year-round

Begin each day with breathtaking Medomak River water views from Jacobs Place, a unique and beautifully renovated 1884 Cape-style Saltwater Farm set on 15 acres of rolling meadows. This historic property has recently been transformed and redecorated by a team of architects and interior designers and features a modern architectural interior with big open spaces, taking great care to respect the original structure and features. This Maine home is luxuriously appointed and has been equipped to a very high standard to enable the owners and guests to enjoy it year-round. Every season offers it's particular charm - Spring and Summer offer the classic Maine Vacationland experience, Fall colors are beautiful and we love to spend late afternoons after a hike in front of the outdoor granite fireplace (For Fall Foliage information, go to http://www.maine.gov/dacf/mfs/projects/fall_foliage/index.shtml). Winter and especially the Holiday Season is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful interiors and chef's kitchen.

Its New England coastal retreat style, enhanced by locally sourced antiques and unique decorative touches, provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere and is a wonderful place for families and friends to gather in a cozy and very private setting.

There are breathtaking views from the entire ground floor, including the contemporary country-style Chef’s kitchen with state of the art stainless appliances as well as cherry-wood countertops.

Sliding doors from the living/dining area open onto the spacious curved deck that runs the length of the home with steps leading down to the cobblestone circular patio area, which is equipped with a granite fireplace. Complete with built-in seating and LED riser lights, the space extends indoor entertaining outdoors.

The 2400 sqft home has a large open concept living/dining/kitchen space, mixing contemporary design with historic architectural features and custom-built furniture. The spacious ground floor master suite has deck access and a spa-style ensuite bathroom. Upstairs, the 2-room guest suite, 2nd guest room and family/media room offer plenty of additional space.

Your days might start (early or later…) with a morning walk down to the water, possibly with a thermos of coffee as we often do, to sit and enjoy the peaceful views from the bench installed at the water’s edge. Or for those of you so inclined, do your morning exercises watching the sun rise. I myself will tend to open the deck doors from the master bedroom and watch the view from there with my first cup of coffee. You will want to spend time relaxing on the elevated deck while planning trips to the beach or some of the nearby villages and towns such as Damariscotta, Rockland or Camden to name a few. Further afield, you will find spectacular hiking trails available in Camden Hills State Park or Acadia National Park.

If you don’t feel like going out for dinner, get lobster from a local supplier or decide to cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen or simply use the large gas grill on the deck for a simple barbecue. Later in the evening, light a fire in the outdoors granite fireplace, cook smores or just enjoy conversation with your friends and family.

This home was the featured remodel on the DIY Network show Blog Cabin 2012.

About Mia Dee

We, Jim and Mia, come from a multinational background and have lived and worked in many different places throughout the world. Currently we divide our time between Europe and USA with frequent stays in Asia. We continue to enjoy travelling both for work and pleasure, and having spent several vacations in Maine, we fell absolutely in love with the mid-coast area and were lucky enough to drive past our dream home one day which happened to be for sale. We plan to use this wonderful house as much as possible ourselves, and have furnished and equipped it as such - as a home we dream of returning to at any time of year and one we are delighted to share with friends and renters who share our love for beautiful spaces inside and out. We speak English, German, French and Danish.

Mia Dee purchased this house in 2013

Why Mia Dee chose Waldoboro

While vacationing in the Mid-Coast Region, we drove past this unique property one rainy day by pure coincidence and saw a 'for sale' sign. We were enchanted by the stunning views as well as the cosy look and feel of the home and figured “it was just meant to be”. Apart from being a very beautiful home, we love the fact that it has a history going back to 1884. We have albums at the house documenting the extensive remodelling and renovations which were carried out during 2012 when this place was the featured home in the DIY Network's programme 'Blog Cabin'.

What makes this house unique

When planning the renovation of this home, great care was taken to respect the original structure and features and a great effort was made to use many reclaimed materials, either by incorporating them in the new structure such as the original red double front door, now dividing the living space from the hallway leading to the master bedroom suite where again the beautiful wooden paneling is made of the house’s original inside doors. Wooden gutters were used both on custom-built tables as was barnwood reclaimed from an old structure. We very much feel that many parts of the old home which was build in 1884 continue to live on and we hope it will continue to do so for many generations to come.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We greatly enjoyed our stay in your home, not only for the rest and quiet but also for the appreciation for such a tasteful and thoughtful design. We are a couple with a heightened design sensibility and awareness of our surroundings and found in your home a similar energy. We could also sense the partnership in the home design and in the way that simple yet thoughtful touches (such as the communal bathroom sink as opposed to separate sinks) reflect a loving home. We would consider ourselves fortunate to visit again.

Incredible rental, pictures do it no justice!

  • 5 of 5

This home is a great rental, pictures do not lie. Mia is great, responds immediately and was incredible to work with. Home is gorgeous, yard is amazing, you can walk the waterfront all day and explore. Kids loved it even while still snow covered. Great to wake up to turkeys running through yard and all kinds of cool wildlife. Great waking paths all over area to walk and hike. Far enough away to disconnect and relax yet close to great dining and places to shop. Outdoor fireplace is amazing, great for sitting around the fire and making smores! Master spa tub is the real deal! Very relaxing home. We will be back! We need to find the DYI blog cabin show to see the history now.

The perfect tradtional warm and contemporary house, comfortable and sunny with many surprises.

  • 5 of 5

Jacobs place was above our expectations. due to their very nice and friendly owners. The place is welcoming, a centuries old road with marvelous trees, old stones, wooden houses, old barns, Dutch Neck Road is a road with tradition. The traditional house is modernised and is very well equiped with high standards, and very nice decorated , the house is luxury but not in a ostentatively way, it feels like home and holidayhome in the same time. The masterbedroom and the masterbathroom are hugue, very very confortable, the bed is more than perfect. The terrace and view are stunning, you see the river from the terrace and the house, turkeys and chipmonks from your bed, from the kitchen, and from the dining table we saw a deer, the view and the light are the very high qualities of the house. There is a lot of creativity in the interior decorating, which is nice to observe, no dull spots. We had no dull moments neither, even if you stay home , (which we didn't, because the surroundings are wonderful), there is no reason to be ennoyed, different televisions, books, and wifi of course. We were six, young and old, everyone liked the house. We are sure we will come back!

Wonderful modernized property and location can't be beat!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful rental home for anytime of the year. The house is well maintained and modern with rustic touches. We enjoyed the outdoor space and views over the river everyday during our August visit by eating meals outside and using the outdoor fireplace at night to relax with a glass of wine. The kitchen is well stocked and had everything we needed to prepare meals. There are even some general nonperishable pantry items to use (which I wish more rentals would do!). The master bedroom and bath are another highlight. We have been to mid-coast Maine several times before and my husband and I both agree that this house sits in a wonderful location because you are literally 30 minutes or less from some of coastal Maine's most fantastic places to visit. (Some of our favorites: Pemaquid beach and lighthouse, McLoons Lobster Shack, Sweetgrass Winery in Union, Camden, Boothbay, I could go on!). We even got a fresh blueberry pie from Moody's and cooked it in the oven back at the house. I was a bit skeptical, but it was delicious! So much to do and such a wonderful retreat to return to. We hope to return again in the future. This rental would be hard to top!

Beautiful Rental Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a wonderful week stay at Jacob's Place. The house and property are beautiful. The stunning riverfront setting is relaxing and centrally located. It is a short drive to Rockland/Camden. The house is filled with high end finishes and furnishings. The kitchen is very well equipped if you enjoy cooking. All the linens were high quality and in generous supply. Mia our host was extremely responsive and had wonderful information on the house and local attractions, shopping & dining. We would definitely return to Jacobs Place in the future.

Beautiful Coastal Maine Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in July and had a great experience. The house is meticulously maintained, and has everything we need. We are impressed by the tasteful internal decor and furnishing, equally awed by the natural beauty surrounded the house. We were able to breath in the gorgeous lake view right at the deck; or take a leisure walk via the elusive meadow path to the water front; or hike the 2-mile pine-trees covered trail to discover the Peters Pond that's right across the street. The place has so much to offer, and we simply felt 1 week of stay is not enough.

The location is very convenient, about 7-8 minutes of drive to the Hannaford Supermarket and 20 minutes to a bunch of restaurants or organic food store in Damariscota. There are plenty of beautiful trails in this area with ocean/mountain view and forest and meadow , which provides enough outdoor actives for our active kids.

Highly recommend this place! Thank you Mia!
