Windfall: Enjoy views of the ocean and glorious flowerbeds from Windfall’s deck! With a separate guest cottage and open floor plan, this property is great for family reunions and entertaining, while its intimate library and master bedroom suite allow for quiet retreats. The garden at Windfall has been tended and added to each year. The gardens bloom continuously from June to the end of Northeast Harbor’s short, but prolific, growing season. Sitting on Windfall’s terrace in the late afternoon the eye absorbs the tranquility of the inner harbor, whilst enjoying the warm fragrance of the evening garden, and the abundant wildlife. The light and airy floor plan lends itself to entertaining, both formally and informally. Nearly every room provides views of the waterfront.
FIRST FLOOR: Granite steps lead from the parking area to a gracious entrance along a wooden walkway to the house. The tile floor entry and coat closet leads through a glass door into the Living Room with vaulted ceiling, wood floors, fireplace, and a bank of sliding glass doors onto the Deck. This central social hub includes an open plan Dining Room with sliding glass doors that adjoins the Living Room, the Kitchen (all new for 2017 season) and a half Bath. A corridor leads from the Living Room in one direction to the Guest Suite. This Guest Suite offers two Bedrooms - one with a Queen bed, the other with a King (can be converted to Twins upon request), and a shared full Bath with tub/shower combination. Both bedrooms have sliding doors opening to the Deck with water views. A door separates the Living Room from the Guest Suite, permitting additional privacy and quiet. On the other side of the Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen/half Bath area is the house’s pièce de résistance - its charming Library, which has a Mediterranean feel with its terra cotta walls, fireplace, glass doors to the Deck, beautiful bookcases overflowing with volumes, a wet bar, television, and an elegant spiral staircase to the second floor. There is also a Study adjoining the Library. The Study has two outer doors, one leading to the Guest House and the other to the front walkway.
SECOND FLOOR: The spiral staircase in the Library leads to the Master Bedroom Suite. It features a Queen bed, built-in bookcases and views of the water. There are his and her Bathrooms - his with a shower, hers with a large tub (all one new large bath for 2017 season) - and dressing area. There is a Laundry area on this level too.
GUEST HOUSE: The adjoining Guest House with private Deck and two sets of sliding doors can accommodate four guests and includes two Bathrooms, laundry and a kitchenette. The first floor open Living Area offers sleeping for two on matching twin-sized daybeds, and opens to the Kitchenette and Bathroom with Laundry. Up the spiral staircase is the second Floor loft Bedroom with King (can be converted to Twins upon request), and a private Bath with shower only. A small private deck off the upper level offers a separate back entrance. The Guest House sleeps four comfortably.
PORCH/DECK: A wrap-around Deck with access from nearly every room, offers a wonderful spot from which to entertain or relax. A patio table with seating for six and umbrella, two zero gravity lounge chairs and bench seat are available.
DOCK/GARDENS: In addition to Windfall’s mature landscaped gardens, within a 5-minute walk is a private dock access, as well as the public Asticou Azalea Garden, Thuya Garden and the Asticou Terrraces.
APPLIANCES: Standard Kitchen appliances include a gas stove top, separate built-in oven, dishwasher and microwave. Two stackable washer/dryer units. TV with basic cable and DVD. Internet. Weber propane Grill.
We've rented many times before in Northeast Harbor, but we booked this large, lovely house as a treat for a special multi-generation family reunion/vacation. What a delight! The main house is spacious and elegant, and the guest house well-appointed and comfortable. The setting could not be beat: a wonderful water view, enjoyable from the deck and visible from every bedroom in the main house. The master bedroom suite was enormous, with more closet space than I've ever seen. The living room, with its high ceiling and fireplace, was a great place to gather (and with two rainy days during our stay and were very glad for the fireplace and ample supply of firewood!). The kitchen was very workable and well-equipped, and everything else functioned well. The place was even nicer than the photos suggest and we were very happy with it.
Northeast Harbor offers the lovely Asticou and Thuya Gardens
