Fantastic cottage in a wonderful location, Cristina and her father were perfect hosts. If you require a real relaxing break, this couldn't be more perfect.

Great value for money, best for older children

  • 4 of 5

We were really pleased with the house, which had great views and was in a lovely village. The house was very clean and well equipped and the local restaurant served delicious food at very reasonable prices. Our only problem was that the house and garden were not ideal for a toddler even though a lot of reviews had said it was suitable for families with young children. A lovely cot was provided with beautiful bedding, and our son loved all the outdoor space, but the 'mezzanine' style living room upstairs meant that there were no walls so there was a high drop where a child could fall, the garden was the same, with places to fall beyond fences that could be easily climbed through. There were also very steep spiral staircases inside the house and although a net had been put across for safety, which helped a lot - the steps were too steep for our toddler and it was quite tricky walking down holding him as it was very narrow. I would not want to put anyone off staying here as we had a fantastic time and as long as you keep your eye on your little ones, it should be ok, but it's worth knowing that you will have to keep any toddlers within sight at all times because of the possible hazards. We would love to return, but will probably wait until we have slightly older children.

Honest Opinion of house and owner

  • 5 of 5

There are few words to describe the delights that awaited us in September 2010.The house is utterley charming and its situation surreal.Set amongst spectacular mountains and with the added advantage of wonderfully friendly residents. The welcome,by Cristina and her family was personal and far exceeded our expectations. The preparation for our arrival included food to cover us until we found the super market the following day and the Log Fire that was lit for us just made the whole place seem like a real home.We will return and as soon as possible.

The house was great - nicely restored, comfortable, attractive and well equipped (and spotless when we arrived). The main cooking/eating/living area is where you enter on the ground floor with a spiral staircase leading down to the main bedroom and up to the mezzanine and second bedroom. This is all open, so gives a nice feeling a space and worked well for 2 couples (but a bit hazardous with a toddler - we managed with a determined 2 1/2 yr but you might want to be aware). Cristina was very helpful and sent lots of information about the area before we arrived and patiently answered various email queries. The village is peaceful. You are immediately struck by the lack of traffic noise which makes for a relaxing atmosphere (much nicer to hear cuckoos and bees rather than cars). Lots of walks from the village - with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and other villages. A friendly shop/bar/restaurant in the village- not smart but very easy-going. I would thoroughly recommend this place for a holiday - lovely house, nice garden/terraces with wonderful views, great area and friendly people.

Wunderschönes Haus in herrlicher Umgebung

  • 5 of 5

Il Metato is close to the spa town of Bagni di Lucca in a pretty village called Casoli in Northern Tuscany. The property is conveniently located only 56km from Pisa as well as being close to the famous and beautiful city of Lucca (29 km). Casoli is a small medieval village set 560 metres high in the beautiful, green and still unspoilt valley of the Lima river offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
