Villa Mear is a stunning Four bedroom four bath property. This villa has the old time St John charm of beautiful stonework but was just recently remodeled.
Villa Mear has a large high ceiling breezy great room, kitchen, dining, living room with the master bedroom / bath off the living room all on one level. The hot tub sits right off of the great room. The bedroom pod has each two twin beds or a king bed and en suite bathrooms. The fourth bedroom is a queen bedroom with bathroom on lower level with its own deck area.Bedrooms comes equipped with a mini fridge. Every room in this villa has an amazing water view and sounds of the surf. The beach for this area is a short walk down the road from Villa Mear and then down several flights of stairs you will be on a rocky beach in Rendezvous Bay.
Villa Mear was everything we expected and much more. 2017 marks our 9th visit to St John and we have stayed in various villas. Villa Mear is by-far the most impressive. Awesome views of the ocean and surrounding bays, expansive decks, terrific open-air bathrooms + showers. The sound of the waves on the rocks could be heard from every room. Pod rooms were perfectly sized and had the most spectacular views available. Host Tammy was responsive, professional and extremely accommodating. We'd return to this villa in a heartbeat!
This was our second time staying at Villa Mear and it did not disappoint!! The house was very clean, the linens and towels were fresh, and the beds were extremely comfortable. From the moment you enter into the home, you immediately feel as though your vacation has begun. The views from the deck are breathtaking and the showers over looking the ocean were stunning. The homes surrounding Villa Mear were very quiet and the sound of the ocean breaking on the rocks was very soothing!
Saint John is a gorgeous island, which offers incredible beaches and hiking trials. Snorkeling at Honeymoon and Waterlemon cay was awesome! We saw turtles, an eel, string ray, grouper (which wasn't so friendly), an octopus, and plenty of other tropical fish!
Saint John also offers the ferry services so that one can island hop during their stay. Which we took full advantage of, by visiting the BVIs twice!! Make sure you bring your passport in order to enter back into Saint John! All of the restaurants have their own flare and the staff is always welcoming. Definitely check out Cruz Bay Landing, Skinny Legs, Long Board, and Rum Hut's pizza:)
We look forward to our next stay and would definitely recommend this villa to anyone! Tammy is wonderful to work with and promptly answered any and all of our questions!
Until we meet again Saint John!
My family of 6 (ages 12 to 50) stayed here for our son's senior trip for fall break. We loved this place!!! The views are incredible in every bedroom and every balcony. The views while taking showers in the pod rooms were amazing! Our flight was delayed and we ended up coming in late at almost midnight. Will met us at the dock and took us to get our rental vehicle and then escorted us to the place. He walked us through everything and was extremely helpful. He even went back to his place and brought us back water since it was too late to go shopping. Tammy was wonderful through the whole process and always answered my questions and texts very fast. My family loved the hot tub and just eating outside. Another thing we loved was watching the iguanas on the property! Just an fyi, St. John is pretty humid. Each room has AC which was a blessing! The main living area does not have AC but it is surrounded by open windows and ceiling fans. Sometimes we retreated to our bedrooms when the humidity was high and sometimes the humidity didn't bother us.
Our favorite beaches on the trip were: Trunk Bay (you pay $20 to park but it is very beautiful with great snorkeling), Waterlemon Beach & Cay (follow Leinster Bay trail to get to it. Had amazing snorkeling - saw sea turtles, sting rays, star fish, and a sand shark.), Hansen Bay Beach (pretty private but you pay to park there - was worth it! Only downside was my son went snorkeling with his cell phone :( That phone never recovered!), and Cinnamon Bay Beach (this one is not for snorkeling but we had fun in the waves and the beautiful beaches!)
We had a wonderful time and absolutely recommend this place!!!
WOW!!! We are a family of 7- ages 4-53 and we ALL absolutely LOVED this Villa.
Tammy was so wonderful meeting us at the dock ,taking us to get groceries and then settling us in to our villa with several recommendations of places to eat. She couldn't have been anymore helpful, nice and accommodating.
The Villas 4 bedrooms are all fabulous with all of them having fantastic views and bathrooms. The living room and open kitchen were great for hanging out, eating meals and playing games. We loved the hot tub and slept so well. We did not need anything extra as it was well equipped.
The location of this Villa is perfect. You feel so remote and safe but it is still close to Cruz Bay. It is private and you do not notice the neighbors. We got robbed in Aruba but felt comfortable enough to leave everything open at this location. I can't say enough of just how beautiful this villa is. It is a real special place and we will return in the future.
We were traveling with 3 other couples and searched for months for a villa that met our needs and budget. Villa Mear came in well below the cost of other comparable villas, and it had just about everything on our list: 4 private bedrooms and bathrooms, AC in the bedrooms, great views, privacy, hot tub, and a large common area. We were a little concerned about the location being a ways off from Cruz Bay, but the location ended up being just fine. The roads to get there are paved and easy to find (compared to others villas we've stayed at, anyway.) The views are absolutely stunning. The bed/bath setup was perfect for 4 couples. Each bedroom has advantages so nobody felt slighted. The two pod bedrooms have cool outdoor-ish showers and amazing views, and they allow for plenty of privacy from each other even though they share a wall. (For families traveling with children: there is a door between the two pod bedrooms- kinda like a door in adjoining hotel rooms.) The "master" bedroom connected to the living area was large and has a nice patio area connected to it, also has the biggest bathroom with a tub. The lower bedroom is accessible by an outdoor staircase and definitely has the most privacy from the others and also shade... might be the best choice for someone who likes to sleep in. Lots of nature surrounding the villa too- we saw iguanas and lots of birds. In fact, there were some larger birds nesting above the balcony of one of the pods; the couple in that bedroom couldn't use the balcony much because the birds were very protective of their nest... very entertaining, actually. We did a lot of cooking and found that the kitchen had most of what we needed. We have stayed at some villas where there was a lot of pantry items left behind by previous renters, and that was not the case at Villa Mear, but it did have an outdoor grill that we used several times. We also like the expansive covered patio where we could clean and keep our beach gear at the end of the day. Although there are neighbors on one side, we still felt that we had plenty of privacy, and that was nice because I'll be honest- our group can get pretty loud! We did not utilize the rocky beach within walking distance- we were told that it was too rough and dangerous to get in the water there. I will also warn potential renters that you will need a vehicle. Had to call a taxi once when our jeep broke and he had a hard time finding it.
As “seasoned” visitors of the paradise that is St. John, we just knew Villa Mear was the perfect island location and accommodation for our 7th adventure here; this time a simple romantic getaway for just my wife and I. We were right! Such views! Ocean sounds! Privacy! Simplicity! Perfect! Our stay was indulgent indeed as we enjoyed waking up each morning in a different room, with relaxing sounds and an unbelievable view! The "pod" rooms in particular are simply special, complimented further with an ensuite bath/shower overlooking the ocean from a cliff! Tammy is easy and great to work with. We will be back!
Some things to know:
Probably best overall value villa available.
Not the most luxurious, or most up to date villa. (but we’ve paid 2-3 times this cost for that luxury in other villas)
No Dishwasher. (it’s OK, you can deal)
Several 100 foot cactus riddled cliffs for kids under 7 to “explore”.
Not a direct sunset, but still pretty good.
No ice maker, bring Ice your first night.
Spectacular waterfront property in Boatman Point, fantastic views and breezes from this unique property.
