About the property

Fabulous 3BR, 1 Bath In-Town Location - Walk Everywhere!

This is our home, and we would love to share it with you! Located on Federal Street, Moose Manor is a 1904 New England-style house with all the upgrades and conveniences of modern living. Freshly painted throughout with exquisite, fully-equipped designer kitchen and a fully updated bath. All the comforts of home in one perfect location, walking distance to everything.

There are 3 bedrooms which comfortably sleep 6. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second has one full and twin bed, and the third has a twin. There is one bathroom (with a wonderful claw-foot tub!) on the second floor. Each bedroom includes wall mirrors to reduce demand for bathroom mirror time. Master bedroom includes a dressing table with light/mirror. All bedrooms have abundant sunshine and ocean breezes.

The front of the house features a wonderful enclosed porch with a bistro table/chairs, rocker and futon. Perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon nap. The soft sound of local seagulls is often present.

In the back of the house, just off the kitchen, you'll find a small wood deck with a Weber grill and chairs to enjoy the cool afternoon breeze while your steak is grilling.

The kitchen has everything you'll need if you choose to prepare some of your own meals during your stay, including some basic pantry items for your use. Top-of-the-line small appliances (including Bunn coffee maker!) are available as well. Other items include Belgian waffle maker, 4 slice Cuisinart toaster, blender, food-processor, Crock Pot, pots/pans and bake-ware as well as an OVER-SIZED lobster pot for boiling your own 'catch' right at home! Easy instructions provided.

Although you'll probably want to get out and enjoy all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park has to offer, the home is also supplied with 'rainy day items' should you choose to stay indoors. 32' LCD TV, DVD player, iPod dock/radio, and a wide selection of books, DVDs and games are available for your enjoyment.

About Paul Strathman

We are Paul and Joy Strathman and we have lived in the Midwest for the past 20 years. It all began when we took a trip to Maine, simply because we'd never been there before.

Since then, we've been back to various parts of Coastal Maine every year and while we enjoy all the towns we've visited, we have fallen hopelessly in love with Bar Harbor. As so often happens when one visits a very special place, one's mind wanders into the possibilities of someday living there.

Our home in Bar Harbor is truly a dream come true. This 1904 New England-style residence is perfectly located right in town; walking distance to everything. We have filled Moose Manor with things we love and have included all the comforts that we enjoy when we are there. We hope that you will enjoy our very special home and likewise fall in love with Bar Harbor.

What makes this house unique

While on one of our early visits to Bar Harbor, we went for a walk. As we passed by this house, my wife said, 'Paul, please buy me that porch!' We both chuckled and continued our walk. Little did we know that we would not only someday buy the porch, but the wonderful home which sits behind it as well!

This inviting home has been lovingly cared for by each owner since the house was built in 1904. We are only the 4th family to own this property. The warmth and charm of Moose Manor is captivating and it's fabulous location cannot be beat!

Lovely home within short walking distance to everything in town and a short drive from Acadia.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful vacation at Moose Manor. The home has everything we needed and Paul and Joy couldn't have been more accommodating. We spent most days in Acadia and after returning from a long day of hiking and biking it was nice to be able to walk into town for dinner or pick up groceries and eat at home.

Overall we had a great time and would happily return to Moose Manor.

Loved our July week in Bar Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five really enjoyed staying at Moose Manor for our first trip to Bar Harbor. The house is perfectly located within easy walking distance to everything in town and very close to Acadia National Park. The home is very clean and very well appointed. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked! There are plenty of towels, soaps and anything you may need to make your stay as if you were at home! Paul and Joy really work hard to make your stay in Bar Harbor a memorable one!

Cozy home in excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

Moose Manor was just what we hoped it would be for our week exploring Bar Harbor/Acadia with our two young boys! The location can't be beat for walkability to everything in town. We walked to all restaurants, grocery store, bike rentals, etc. The house itself is clean, nicely appointed and fully stocked with everything we needed to cook at home. It is clear the owners care about and enjoy the house, as opposed to it being just a "rental." The owners were very accommodating and wanted to make sure our stay was a good one. All of their extra touches made us feel very comfortable and welcome. This trip was our first VRBO experience and if we ever return to the area we will definitely stay at Moose Manor!

Owner's Response: Meredith, you had me at "comfortable". That's how we want our guests at Moose Manor to feel. Vacation time should leave one feeling relaxed and it sounds like our home and Bar Harbor did just that. Thank you for taking the time to share your kind thoughts. We hope that your family have come away with fond memories of your stay. Please come back again. Paul & Joy

Perfect home for our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed in Moose Manor for our family vacation in June of 2017. It was the perfect home for us! The home is clean, comfortable, filled with everything you need for your stay, and in a perfect location.

Not only is the home clean and comfortable, but it is also adorable! We loved reading about the history of the house too! The location couldn't be any better, as it is right in town, but tucked away off of the main street. We were able to walk or take the free shuttle to every attraction we wanted to see.

The owners were very friendly and responsive, and they checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed for a perfect family vacation.

I highly recommend Moose Manor for anyone looking to visit Bar Harbor!

Perfect House for First Bar Harbor Trip

  • 5 of 5

Moose Manor had everything our family wanted for our first-ever trip to Maine. It had a charming "Maine" feel, was well provisioned, and was tucked away in unbeatable location.

With three bedrooms, we had more than enough space to spread out. We sipped coffee on the front porch every morning; enjoyed cocktails on the shaded back deck/patio at night; played board games in the dining room and caught a couple of dvd movies in the living room.

The little back mudroom was great for wet shoes, coolers, and organization. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a ton of meals at home, including every breakfast and even a full lobster dinner. We also used the outdoor grill for burgers one night.

The exterior of the house and the quiet street it sits on are both adorable. It's also close enough to the harbor that you can catch a glimpse of the water between neighboring houses, smell the sea air, and hear boat horns and bells in the morning.

Sitting a block off the main drag Cottage Street, we could walk to everything in 3 minutes: restaurants, bike and kayak outfitters, our lobster boat ride, cafes, the pharmacy, grocery store, bars, shops, the shore path and entrances to parts of Acadia. One day, we walked to a bike shop, rented bikes, and peddled to Acadia for a three-hour ride around Eagle lake without needing our car for any of it.

The owners left great instructions for the house and excellent recommendations for restaurants and activities. They were also very responsive to questions.

If the price fits your budget and the sleeping capacity matches your needs, I would recommend this property for anyone making their first trip to Bar Harbor. The only thing that would keep us from returning would be our curiosity to try and see something new.
