Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island House Rental Photos and Description

Fabulous 3BR, 1 Bath In-Town Location - Walk Everywhere!

This is our home, and we would love to share it with you! Located on Federal Street, Moose Manor is a 1904 New England-style house with all the upgrades and conveniences of modern living. Freshly painted throughout with exquisite, fully-equipped designer kitchen and a fully updated bath. All the comforts of home in one perfect location, walking distance to everything.

There are 3 bedrooms which comfortably sleep 6. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second has one full and twin bed, and the third has a twin. There is one bathroom (with a wonderful claw-foot tub!) on the second floor. Each bedroom includes wall mirrors to reduce demand for bathroom mirror time. Master bedroom includes a dressing table with light/mirror. All bedrooms have abundant sunshine and ocean breezes.

The front of the house features a wonderful enclosed porch with a bistro table/chairs, rocker and futon. Perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon nap. The soft sound of local seagulls is often present.

In the back of the house, just off the kitchen, you'll find a small wood deck with a Weber grill and chairs to enjoy the cool afternoon breeze while your steak is grilling.

The kitchen has everything you'll need if you choose to prepare some of your own meals during your stay, including some basic pantry items for your use. Top-of-the-line small appliances (including Bunn coffee maker!) are available as well. Other items include Belgian waffle maker, 4 slice Cuisinart toaster, blender, food-processor, Crock Pot, pots/pans and bake-ware as well as an OVER-SIZED lobster pot for boiling your own 'catch' right at home! Easy instructions provided.

Although you'll probably want to get out and enjoy all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park has to offer, the home is also supplied with 'rainy day items' should you choose to stay indoors. 32' LCD TV, DVD player, iPod dock/radio, and a wide selection of books, DVDs and games are available for your enjoyment.

About Paul Strathman

We are Paul and Joy Strathman and we have lived in the Midwest for the past 20 years. It all began when we took a trip to Maine, simply because we'd never been there before.

Since then, we've been back to various parts of Coastal Maine every year and while we enjoy all the towns we've visited, we have fallen hopelessly in love with Bar Harbor. As so often happens when one visits a very special place, one's mind wanders into the possibilities of someday living there.

Our home in Bar Harbor is truly a dream come true. This 1904 New England-style residence is perfectly located right in town; walking distance to everything. We have filled Moose Manor with things we love and have included all the comforts that we enjoy when we are there. We hope that you will enjoy our very special home and likewise fall in love with Bar Harbor.

What makes this house unique

While on one of our early visits to Bar Harbor, we went for a walk. As we passed by this house, my wife said, 'Paul, please buy me that porch!' We both chuckled and continued our walk. Little did we know that we would not only someday buy the porch, but the wonderful home which sits behind it as well!

This inviting home has been lovingly cared for by each owner since the house was built in 1904. We are only the 4th family to own this property. The warmth and charm of Moose Manor is captivating and it's fabulous location cannot be beat!

Perfect in-town location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Moose Manor! The location could not have been better- lots of shops and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. Our favorites were Olive Park Cafe and Side Street. Every morning, we'd walk the shore path and try the different coffee shops on the way back.

The house itself was perfect for our family of 4. The kids enjoyed having their own bedrooms and loved having breakfast on the front porch. The house is well equipped and the Hannafords is very close by and we never needed to drive there, just walked to pick up groceries. We did get a "wake up call" every morning when the mail delivery started (the Post Office is right behind the house), but we're early risers and didn't mind at all. The owners were very helpful in giving us information about town, and clearly love being part of the Bar Harbor community.

We would definitely stay at Moose Manor again!

Marvelous Moose Manor

  • 5 of 5

The location of this house right in town with many choices of restaurants, shopping, grocery and bakeries within a very short walk is really convenient. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners have thought of everything and are very attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor and had a wonderful time hiking every day in Acadia.

Moose Manor

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from Bar Harbor and had a great time. The house is conveniently located to downtown, the shore and Acadia National Park. The restaurant choices within walking distance were all very good and we used the grill at the house to cook a few meals ourselves. They had everything that we needed and I would recommend this home to anyone interested in seeing Maine.

A Perfectly Charming Vacation Home Base

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are in love with Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park - this was our 3rd trip and we knew we wanted a comfortable home close to all the amenities of Bar Harbor proper and were so pleased to stay for a week at Moose Manor. The house is centrally located for walking into the village for dining, shopping, sight seeing, renting bikes, renting kayaks, going to the little local movie house, museums, etc. The house felt like a home away from home - it is comfortable, clean, has a wonderful kitchen, dining area, great bedrooms, laundry facilities, lots of fans are provided to stay comfortable if the weather should happen to be warmer than expected, everything is in good working order. We biked up to Day Mtn, we hiked to the top of Acadia Mtn, we kayaked in Sommes Sound, we star gazed on top of Cadillace Mtn and saw shooting stars, we cooked meals in and ate meals out. Fell in love with the Jordan Restaurant & their staff for breakfasts. Ate at lovely restaurants on the quiet side of the island and at Jordan Pond in Acadia Park. The week went all too quickly. Paul and his wife insure that your stay is comfortable and they are so efficient from A to Z. We love that you share your home with people that love Bar Harbor.

Owner's Response: Thank you Lynn for the warm sentiments. It means so much to us that you felt comfortable, that it felt like a "home away from home". Knowing that you've been to Bar Harbor previously, we're honored that you chose our home for your stay. You and Robert were truly wonderful guests and please know that you're always welcome. Paul

Great location

  • 5 of 5

You cannot beat the location. It is an easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and the bus that travels into Acadia. The home is well cared for and in great condition with plenty of room to stretch out. The bbq grill was a great bonus.

Excellent in town location. Can walk to everywhere.

  • 4 of 5

My family of 6 stayed at Moose Manor in late August of our vacation. The in-town location on a small side street could not be beat. We could walk to literally everything in town, but at the same time our kids could safely ride their bikes and play out on the road.

The house is clean, has modern amenities, includes a fully stocked kitchen and is very comfortable.

The only small concerns was is the house does not have a bathroom on the first floor. This is a minor inconvenience. And also the back of the house is in close proximity to the local post office whose trucks often arrive at 5 AM on week days. But this isn't a big issue once you learn to shut windows on that side of the house.

We would definitely stay here again.
