About Carol

We've been Mainers for more than 30 years, although the locals still consider us 'from away'. We are a teacher and marine biologist. We look forward to welcoming guests to our apartment, where we lived while building our new home next door. Carol will retire in June 2017 and looks forward to working in the gardens that surround the house and welcoming guests. Rick is a research scientist at the UMaine Darling Marine Center.

Carol purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Carol chose Boothbay Harbor Area

The barn is a reconstruction of an early 1850's post and beam parish house that was once in Bristol Mills. Some windows and interior doors were salvaged from our on site 1875 Victorian home which burned in 2011. We've created a comfortable apartment that reflects an earlier time when the pace of life was slower. Gently used vintage furnishings create a warm, inviting environment.

What makes this apartment unique

A 5 minute walk from Round Pond Harbor, an active lobster fishing and sailing harbor. Walk to fine dining or lobster in the rough. If you like exploring the woods and fields, there are trails right out the back door. You could see river otters frolicking in the stream, a rookery of great blue herons in the swamp, or deer grazing in the fields. Not up for the wilderness, take a walk to Bass Rock Preserve and meditate while the waves gently lap at your feet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your place was truly amazing. Even though the purpose of this trip was to take a class, staying at your place made me feel like I was on vacation. I love the way you decorated the place, every aspect of your house is so beautiful. It's a true reflection of how warm and inviting the both of you are I hope I can make it back again!

Perfect barn apartment

  • 5 of 5

Could not think of any way to improve upon our experience! Carol and Rick were hospitable and made fun suggestions of things to do in the area. Wonderful location-walking distance to the village, beautiful gardens, quiet and cozy. Very clean and well appointed barn apartment with fine craftmanship and character. The Pemaquid penisula is removed yet close enough to town for good meals and shopping. Would love to stay here again and again!

Beautiful Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Round Pond was wonderful. The barn apartment was comfortable, beautiful and had everything we could have wanted or needed for our vacation. Carol and Rick were great hosts; always willing to offer information about what to see and do; where to eat or just hang out. I would highly recommend their apartment to anyone wishing to spend a few days in Maine. Another plus, it's centrally located. It's not very far to Camden or Freeport!

Perfect place for a Maine Coast getaway

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying at the Barn on Round Pond. Carol and Rick were great, helpful and informative without being intrusive. The apartment was lovely, spotless and well-equipped in a good location. We were able to easily explore Mid-Coast from here. We were here in October, foliage just starting to turn. We'd love to come back when the gardens are in full bloom.

We spent three nights at this rental and it was just what we imagined. Check out all the pictures on the rental sight. The home has beautiful gardens and the owners couldn't have been nicer. The apartment is spacious with lots of amenities. Best area in the state of Maine!
