Great spot!

  • 5 of 5

Our family just spent four days at the Lewis and Clark Lodge. It is a great place for a small family reunion--our group consisted of six adults. We had plenty of space. The kitchen was well equipped, nice bathrooms and laundry facilities. The decor was fun--very eclectic and original! The Lodge is secluded, yet is minutes from town. The photos adequately reflected the property and we found it very clean and well maintained. There were deer, a raccoon, a muskrat, lots of birds and some ducks that all visited daily. Everyone agreed we want to stay here next year for a longer time. We highly recommend this property if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.

Beware if cat allergies

  • 4 of 5

This property had a nice location close to town and was in a quiet secluded area. The house itself was nice and had a funky feel to it. We were there during a hot spell, and while the downstairs stayed cool, the upstairs was very hot. We borrowed fans from a friend in the area, which made it bearable. We used the fire pit, which was fantastic; one nice improvement would be a better outdoor dining set, as the current set is not comfortable. Our only major complaint is that there are two indoor/outdoor cats; while they weren't indoors during out stay, it was clear that they had been inside (there was cat hair on one of the chairs). While normally this wouldn't be a problem, one of the members of our party is allergic to cats, and he couldn't sit on certain chairs and had to take medication during the trip. If we had known that cats had been in the house, we would not have rented this property. Overall a nice place; inside cats should be disclosed for future guests.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Lewis and Clark Lodge. I would like to address a concern you had about the cats. I too am allergic to cats, so I understand about the suffering a person in your party may have endured and I am truly sorry. I'm sure you noticed an abundance of wildlife around the Lodge. Due to the nature of poisons and the effect they impose on our natural environment, we have decided to stick with the natural route of rodent control, thus the OUTDOOR cats. They are very friendly but should remain outdoors. Thank you also for the fan tip. We have always just opened the two large windows upstairs at night then closed them during the day. This has effectively kept the home quite comfortable for us. I can see how people might not realize this and having a fan would be a great solution. If you or your friends ever wander our way again we hope you will consider Lewis and Clark Lodge. Sincerely, Tim and Toni Lewis Clark

Hamilton Vacation stay

  • 5 of 5

This year we had a family vacation in the Hamilton Missoula area and rented the Lewis and Clark Lodge for a week. I highly recommend the location if you are staying in the Bitterroot Valley. The lodge is a very comfortable and enjoyable location out of sight and sound. Wildlife surrounds the lodge and you are all alone in the area around the local creek and ponds. Bedrooms and bathrooms are very generous. The kitchen is outstanding. There is plenty of room if you’re towing your own drift boat.

The house is charming and peaceful. We really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Nice outside fire pit for the evenings. Great outside setting. We all enjoyed BBQing, golfing, and fishing.

Downside was there was no TV access, only TV w/DVD player. We didn't know there were DVD's somewhere upstairs until the kids found them about day 5, so we had already went out and bought a few for some evening relaxation.

We were the first one's there for season and had to go purchase quite a few of the necessities - dish soap, laundry soap, TP, salt, dishwasher soap, paper towels - so come prepared.

But outside of these few obstacles, it was wonderful and we had a great time.

For outdoor enthusiasts the Lewis & Clark's Hideaway is a dream come true. The Bitterroot Valley is known for its blue ribbon fly-fishing and just three miles down the road from Lewis & Clark's Hideaway brings you to Anglers Roost, where you will find convenient river access. For the golfer, the golf course is only 5 miles up the road from the lodge. Some of the best snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing is just 16 miles up Skalkaho HWY. Numerous hiking and cycling trails line every mountain and canyon in the valley. Great downhill skiing, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling is only 45 miles away at Lost Trail Powder Mountain, on the border of Montana and Idaho. You really can ski in both states at once!

For those who like to poke around town Lewis & Clark's Hideaway is located between Hamilton and Darby, both with vibrant historic downtown shops and restaurants. Antiques, art, museums, books, coffee...there is something for everyone in the Bitterroot Valley.

In summer you can drive over Skalkaho Pass (MT HWY-38) -a dirt road- to the little mining town of Phillipsburg famous for it's sapphire mines, where you will have fun finding your own precious stones sifting through buckets of dirt from the mine.
