The room has a Private Entrance so you will never feel like you are intruding! It is a secluded downstairs guest-room in our home with private full bath en suite (inside your bedroom) and Queen Size Bed. This is a room in a private residence not a hotel room.
NO KITCHEN AVAILABLE but there is fridge, microwave, toaster, tea kettle, and Keurig coffee maker in your room. We provide one coffee or black/green tea per person per day. Feel free to buy your own K-cups or tea.
WHOLE-HOUSE WATER FILTRATION system so the water that you drink out of any faucet in the house is pure. Also great for skin and hair when you take a shower.

In the home we have two miniature schnauzers who are yappy but friendly. They love to meet new people and get excited when they hear you come home but will quiet down after a few minutes. Schnauzers are very close to being hypoallergenic because they don't shed much and we DO NOT allow our dogs in that guest room just in case someone is allergic. If you are not a dog person just let us know.
There is public transportation (bus) but we recommend you have a car if you are staying with us.
Don't be afraid to ask we don't mind answering any questions to make your stay more enjoyable. Also please don't write a review based on things that are out of my control. If you don't ask we can't help you. If you ask we will always do what we can to help guests.
Please keep in mind this is not like staying at a hotel. Many people enjoy the experience MORE than a hotel, but if it's your first time please remember this is not our primary job. We have other full-time work and employers.
We do what we can for our guests and want everyone to enjoy their stay. We take great pride in making the experience enjoyable, and will do everything we can for you. Please keep an open mind and remember all of that when you book. Thanks and we look forward to hosting you.

Ohioan that has lived in San Diego County since 2000 and love it. I am a former full-time high school teacher, current substitute teacher and volleyball coach. I work from home on my family's travel agency business. I enjoy traveling (pic is me in Ireland) and learning about new cultures. If you have any questions on where to go for anything please just ask. I give everyone their privacy but love sharing my city with visitors.

Lovely area, lovely room, lovely host
The room was clean, in a very nice neighborhood, and well appointed. While I didn't spend much time in the room, I would definitely book it again in the future.
5 week stay
I stayed at Shannon's accommodation for a 5 week period while I was taking classes in the area, so I think that I got a pretty good feel of the place.
While the room was comfortable and Shannon was quick to answer questions, there are a few things that might be helpful to know before booking. The bedroom is located right next to the living room area, garage door access, and garage so it's a high traffic area and you will hear people as they come and go, watch TV, talk on the phone, or prepare meals. The family does try to be quiet, however they have two small dogs with very loud high pitched barks and they do bark outside the bedroom door when ever they hear noise coming from your room (even small noises at times like opening the refrigerator). They also bark whenever anyone comes and goes from the main house, which is sometimes very early in the morning, around 6 am.
The outside door to the room is glass and is covered with blinds. While it's a safe neighborhood, I really didn't like having a glass door, especially because there is a gap between the blinds and the glass on the door, and if someone wanted, it would be easy to look in and see inside the bedroom, as you can see the bed through the gap. It also lets a lot of light in at night.
The room also gets very warm, which normally isn't an issue for me as I run cold. I let Shannon know and she told be I could come into the main house to change the thermostat if needed. At home, I keep my house at 75 which it pretty warm for most people, but in this room, when the thermostat is set to 70, I still wake up sweating, so I think the air isn't always getting to the room. There were days when it worked better, but it was very inconsistent.
Oddly, the water also has a strong sulfur smell, so I didn't enjoy drinking it. It may be that the filter on the water softener needs to be replaced.
I was given a somewhat reduced rate for paying in cash and because of the length of stay, however I found many places after the fact that were about half as much, so I do feel I over-payed for the 5 week stay, especially considering that the room was not cleaned during the stay. I am actually returning to the area next month for a 10 week stay as I'll be attending more classes, and I ended up reserving a different place in the exact same town, in another very nice neighborhood, with a master bathroom as well, but at literally half the price.
It is a nice little room, but I probably wouldn't reserve it again
It was the perfect location for us! Quiet neighborhood. The place was very clean, and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Carlsbad!

It was wonderful to come back to our suite after spending fun days with our kids and grandkids. We did not meet our hosts but everything was communicated clearly regarding our arrival and departure. Would definitely stay again when in the area. Our room was as pictured. It was very clean and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable.
