The house is wonderful. Especially for a family with adult children. The staff sets this house apart. Trina is so warm and inviting. It was a pleasure to get to know her and her husband.
Amazing layout, views and location
We recently spent a week at Balcones and loved it. The property exceeded all expectations. It is situated on three levels with views with multiple indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Indoor spaces included a master with his/hers bathrooms, three other guests rooms with en suite baths, a warm personal sit down kitchen, large dining room, an office, and a large comfortable living room with slouchy comfortable furniture. Everything is warmly and comfortably decorated with regional and vintage pieces as well as some of the most amazing artwork imaginable. Televisions in every room. Outdoor spaces included gardens and dining terraces overlooking San Miguel with amazing views and a hugely inviting outdoor pool area. We were there when it was cooler, so we didn't make use of the pool, but we did sit outside on that level enjoying the sun. There is also a small fitness room with a spin bike, an elliptical and free weights.
The location is just on the edge of the vital downtown area, about a five block walk up or down hill. The streets in San Miguel are large cobblestones, so if you aren't fond of walking up or down on that sort of terrain, taxis are cheap and plentiful and arrive promptly when called. There is another comment I want make about the villa and San Miguel. The security system at the villa with a locked entry make you feel totally secure. But the other thing about San Miguel is it feels like a very safe city. No touts and no unsavory characters lingering around street corners. Even late at night the streets are peaceful. We walked home late at night and never ever felt compromised.
My last comment is about the staff. The cook is incredible and prepares local cuisine as well as any requests, and housekeeping, laundry and gardening services are ongoing and are taken care of unobtrusively. Some of the staff speaks English and can help arrange for drivers, etc.
This was our first trip to San Miguel and Balcones, but it won't be our last. My only regret is I didn't have more time to shop.
5 Star Staff, Home & View

Thank-you for your kind remarks regarding our home. We strive to make the home comfortable but intricately decorated, and our staff will do their best to make your stay memorable. Of course, we are always looking for ways to improve if you have any suggestions. Again, thanks for your comments and for taking the time to write them.
Fabulous House with stunning views
This house has it all. Beautiful accommodations, living room, study, private dining room, gymnasium, swimming pool, and beautiful outdoor entertaining areas. Fabulous collections of art and folk art. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The house is in a quiet neighborhood. Yet the house is very close to the center of San Miguel. It is a super house to enjoy San Miguel with friends and family.
There are numerous art galleries in town and several museums as well as excellent restaurants, some with award winning chefs from Mexico City.
The churches in town are beautiful, but the must see is the Church at Atotonilco. The town of Atotonilco is 20 minutes from the house. The church is over 250 years old and is a marvel; it is a colonial Sistine Chapel with frescoes painted on the ceilings and walls. It has the most heart-wrenching statue of Jesus in pain as he made his way to the crucifixion. During the Mexican Revolution, the banner of the Virgin de Guadalupe was taken by the peasants and carried with them for holy protection.
In 1996, American Express designated it one of the 100 most endangered archaeological sites in the world. American Express created a fund to restore and preserve the sites. The church's frescoes have bee amazingly restored, a process that took over ten years.
