About Bill and Holly O'Dwyer

We live nearby in Elberta, MI. We have 3 boys in Elementary School. I recently retired from The Federal Aviation Administration and my wife works at the local hospital in Frankfort.

Bill and Holly O'Dwyer purchased this cabin in 1996

Why Bill and Holly O'Dwyer chose Northern Michigan

This is an Up North Destination! We built this cabin in 1996. We chose this location for it's seclusion and proximity to the Platte River. Without any other homes in view, this truly feels private.

What makes this cabin unique

Relaxing on the deck, listening to the river and watching kayaks and canoes drift by. Not a care in the world. Put your chair in the river and soak your feet. The river is crystal clear with a gravel bottom. Occasionally you will see fish swim by.

Cabin on the River

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with this rental. The cabin was as lovely as the on line picture; it was clean and well maintained. Beautiful woodsy backdrop with the mesmerizing flow of the river. We had 6 adults and there was plenty of space. The kitchen supplies were terrific but we also brought paper products since there was no dishwasher (no big deal). The joy of a cabin with all the modern conveniences and inspiring nature views. This was a winter time visit - we saw the area with the green and brown of the season and by the next day we had snow. Plow came and cleared out the drive in the morning. You feel separated from busy life - just a part of nature sitting out there in the woods; yet close enough to stores and Crystal Mountain. We were pleased with the rental and do not hesitate to recommend it to others. The host and hostess are pleasant to work with - good customer service. We will rent again when planning a west side of the State outing again.

relaxing by the river

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful log cabin that's secluded, yet close to many things. It's one of, if not thee cleanest places we've ever rented. To us, that is a priority! Although we didn't cook much, the kitchen was stocked with anything we would have needed. We did use the oven and it worked fine.

The fridge had many condiments left in it (I'm sure they are left as a convenience, but probably we wouldn't have used).

The outside sits very close to the river and has a nice large deck. It was a little cold to have the windows open, but I can see it would be nice in warmer weather to hear the river flowing.

I would highly recommend this if you're looking for a quite get away with some seclusion.

Surprisingly pleasant and memorable!

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we've stayed in a Homeaway cottage & will not hesitate to do it again! I packed & brought way too many items of our own that were already provided in the cottage. It was like they already knew what we would need, from extra blankets for the bedrooms to peanut butter in the cupboard, to condiments in the frig! The cottage was very comfortable, organized, & clean; it almost seemed brand new! We only had one day to explore the area so we drove to the climbing dune and to Point Betsie lighthouse, both short drives. Of course now we have to go back someday to continue this family adventure of exploring the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Wonderful cabin in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Cedar Glen. The pictures looked great, and yet we were still pleasantly surprised by what we found. It's a nice cabin, well built and furnished, in an absolutely gorgeous location. We used it as home-base for a couple of days touring Sleeping Bear and the Leelanau Peninsula. Sitting on the porch sipping coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings was the perfect bookends to a fun few days. The owners even surprised us with a little gift and a card, congratulating us on our recent marriage. Overall, it would be hard to find a better getaway location.
