Marseille area Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sea views, close to beach & fishing port, private parking

On the Cote d'Azur in the heart of Provence 'The Lighthouse' overlooks this romantic fishing port. Beaches, restaurants and the delights of the market square are easy to discover from this central location.

Here you can have fun cooking while looking out to sea or enjoy relaxing on the southern balcony. Exceptional views of the azure blue sea lead to the main beach that is sandy and safe. It is an uplifting experience to sit and watch the waves crash against the Lighthouse on a stormy day or watch the sunlight play on the Cap Canille, Frances highest sea cliff.

Inviting restaurants and bars that spill out onto the streets surround the market square. All this is a convenient three-minute walk away, around a classic Mediterranean port.

Large windows and high ceilings give this newly renovated apartment a light and airy feel. From the open plan granite kitchen, to the Roman tiled bathroom, all is well equipped and convenient.

The main bedroom has a large double bed, two reading lights on bed side tables, full mirror and chest of draws and over looks a large terrace. The second bedroom has a full sized bunk bed, two bed side lights, mirror and wardrobe.

There is free private parking and wifi.

There is a large northern terrace overlooking terracota roof tops and Mediterranean trees.

About Anthony Franklin

I am a Mountain Guide and take people climbing and off piste skiing all over the Alps. My family and I love sailing, rock climbing and cooking.

Anthony Franklin purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Anthony Franklin chose Marseille area

The Calanques, lime stone fjords, are a national park in between Cassis and Marseille, considered by the French as one of the most beautiful places in the world. White lime stone cliffs fall into clear emerald green seas, through which the sandy deeps and passing fish can be seen. Sunsets of extraordinary beauty make a dazzling contrast with the blue of the high seas and the green and white of the coast.

I first got to know Cassis after climbing and sailing in the Calanques. Thirsty after a long climb or cold and wet after sailing we would hole up in a friendly bar and drink local wine or cool beers.

After several years I decided to come and buy and was lucky enough to find the Lighthouse. We love it and think it a very special place. I'm sure you will too.

What makes this apartment unique

The Lighthouse is exceptional because of a view that will truly take your breath away. We love cooking while looking out to sea and just relaxing and listening to the sea, which lulls you into peaceful harmony.

Great Apartment with Great Views

  • 5 of 5

We spend just 4 wonderful days in Cassis and hope to return again someday. The apartment was roomy, clean, had spectacule views, and was in a great location. We enjoyed walking around the quient little town and the boat ride we took to the Calanques (cliffs). The restaurants were very good. We liked the little Pizza place below and to the right of the apartment as well as Bonaparts (spelling?) wonderful and fresh seafood. The pastries and gelatto were great. We also loved the market on Wed and Fridays. Really nice gifts at good prices. And again, the apartment was so awesome! We really loved it and Cassis!

Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

I don't know how many times we have stayed at, "The Lighthouse"...it is truly our vacation home away from home! As my husband said in his review, the upgrades Anthony has made are good. There is a brand new deck on the front of the apartment, along with a new bathroom sink and other improvements...What cannot be beat anywhere in the world is the view that we are fortunate to have from this apartment. You can look out the window and see the moon in the middle of the night, the sunrise, and the sunset, along with Cap Canaille, the Lighthouse (with the huge waves during a storm which was fabulous!), and can see over to Bestouan plage. You can watch the comings and goings in the port too. We are very comfortable here at "our" vacation home in Cassis -there is everything you need here and it is clean...we will return soon, I hope!

As Victor says, "Cassis is a little corner of paradise!"

Thanks again, Anthony & family!

Fantastic Views!

  • 5 of 5

Another delightful stay at The Lighthouse. We keep coming back for the central location, the wonderful views and the peace of the sea.

And with the improvements more comfortable.

New bathroom sink and towel rack have perked up the bathroom. And we like the bright new paint.

Paradise on earth, fantastic view of sea, harbour

  • 4 of 5

Once again we enjoyed our week in the lighthouse appartment. We arrived in a storm and were delighted to be able to view the spectacular views over the sea. We feel totally at home there. Everything has it's place and there is everything you could need for a perfect holiday. Shops, restaurants, beaches, great walks on the doorstep. Highly recommended.

Superb location and marvelous view

  • 4 of 5

This is a great apartment with a superb location and beautiful view.

The apartment is virtually on the waterfront and within easy walking distance to almost everything you need or want to visit in the town. There are dozens of restaurants within 5 minutes (or less) walk from the apartment. Bakeries and small supermarkets are also really nearby (walking). Also, the markets on Wednesday and Friday are close and fun.

The view from the apartment is really spectacular and provides constant entertainment watching the boating activity.

The property was clean and well maintained. Dealing with Victor (on-site) and Anthoni (online) was a pleasure and very professional. The apartment was very well equiped with cooking and washing facilities.

You should know that the 2nd bedroom is small and would not really be suitable for adults (in my opinion). Also the bath /shower arrangement is a little awkward. I think this is suitable for 2 adults (as we were) or a family with youngish children.

However, overall this is a great apartment that I would definitely recommend and go back!

Owner's Response: Although the second bedroom is small it leads out on to a balcony and has plenty of storage. The Beds are comfortable and full sized, in over twelve years of renting the Lighthouse we have never had a complaint about the second bedroom. The bathroom has a large full sized bath, a drying rack for 5 towels and a big basin with draws. The Lighthouse accommodates well for 4 people but would be small for 5.

Great base, spectacular views, all you need.

  • 5 of 5

We had an idyllic week in the Cassis 'holiday bubble'. Loved the apartment, was a perfect base and the view over the harbour over to the huge cliffs that went from pale sand colour to rich red in the evening sunset was just spectacular. We had everything that we needed in a very clean and well equipped well placed base. Thank you to Victor for showing in. Would recommend diving with Narval and the fantastic deli 2 shops up from them, serving hot home-made ,slow-cooked food from 6pm every day. Also the colourful market on Friday morning in the square. Best of all was swimming in the clear sea, walking along the Calanques and hiring a rib to explore the coast for a day with our boys. We'll be back :)

Cassis is close to Marseille, an ancient Phoenician port, and Aix where music and dance festivals take place.

The Callanques, a national park and marine reserve, www.calanques-parcnational.fr, are Provencal fjords with crystal clear green water, framed by white lime stone cliffs and the deep blue of the ocean, where secret beaches await discovery. It’s easy to catch a boat from Cassis (they leave every half hour) and be dropped off in a Callanques, where it is fun to picnic, dive and sunbathe and then walk back to Cassis or catch the ferry back.

A renowned diving spot with Roman wrecks, preserved flora and fauna is a half hour boat trip out to sea. The Callanques is a world famous rock-climbing site.

Cassis produces a famous white wine the result of a long tradition since 600 BC. Various Chateaux welcome wine lovers and offer free tasting.

The apartment is on the first floor of a residential building 5 minutes walk from both beaches and overlooking the Lighthouse on the waterfront. When the windows are open you can hear the sea in every room. Everything is an easy walk away.
