Secluded waterfront cottage on Mount Desert Island in Southwest Harbor. Sitting on a bluff overlooking the inner harbor, with views of the mountains beyond. View the vessel coming and going from the marina, both lobster and pleasure. Eagles have been known to perch on the towering spruce trees that surround the cottage.
The cottage is two bedroom, both have a queen bed. A gas fireplace provides ample heat on chilly mornings, or evenings. Bathroom includes a large claw foot tub with a shower combination. Full kitchen with dishwasher and microwave. A sitting room filled with windows that overlook the water. Waterfront deck, with a larger deck on the opposite side that has a spacious table and chairs with a gas grill. A fire pit and seating with a view of the water is adjacent the cottage. secluded from the highway with a 150' road. Free WiFi. Small TV with internet access(you can use your own netflix or similar )account, DVD player. Very good cell phone coverage.
We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was pleasantly rustic and fitting in the environment - perfect for our short trip trip to Mount Desert Island. . We spent two days in Acadia National Park, which was our primary reason for visiting, but we were also enchanted with all the beautiful small towns. They each had there own delightful personalities. The weather was chilly and damp while we were there so we couldn't really enjoy outdoor views from the deck and fire pit, but the views from the large windows of the harbor were wonderful. The gas stove kept us cozy in the mornings and evenings. The bedrooms were small but the queen size bed was comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed for cooking. The place was clean and well maintained.
A very relaxing and restful place to stay. Great views and well equipped.
The expansive of view of the marina and the mountains beyond is the motivation to stay here. Each morning I would sit out on the deck with my coffee and feel as if I was in Acadia with woods on either side of me and the water in front of me.
During my stay, I learned the benefits of having a caring and local property manager. The pilot light in the fireplace/heater went out and Storey King was determined to get it fixed even thought it was a holiday and the emergency repair company was on vacation. He came and fixed it.
When I showed him that both beds squeak when you sit or lie on them, he agreed with me and said that he will replace the box springs. Unfortunately, this task was not completed before I left.
This is a charming cozy size Maine cottage which shows the wear and care of generations of happy family times spent there. When replacements were done (such as the windows and kitchen sink/faucet), they were replaced with good material.
The catch is that the house is old and needs repairs. Most of the house is covered in old wallpaper so I understand the hesitation to make the repairs. Cracks in three walls in one bedroom and water stains as well as cracks in the other bedroom. The bedrooms are small and the furniture is worn. The living room furniture is comfortable yet there is no full size sofa.
When I first arrived at the cottage, I had the pleasure of watching an eagle circling a tall pine tree in the backyard. The charm and “getaway” feel the cottage made me feel like I was stepping back to a slower paced time.
We stayed there for 7 nights.
1. All cooking utensils and linens were provided.
2. Short distance to shopping area.
1. The window behind the sofa was not properly sealed, so the first night, there were over 20 mosquitoes coming from the leak and my baby was bitten 6 times. His arms are still in bad shape now.
2. Because the mosquito problem was so severe, it's not possible to sit outside, despite that we burned the repellent torch on the porch. So don't think of walking around the house as well.
3. The cottage is very old, all the furniture seem more than 50 years old, the beds squeak when lying into, and some part of the floor does the same when stepping on.
4. The sink in the bathroom has hot and cold tap separately, so you got either hot or cold instead of warm water.
5. The curtains in one bedroom don't block light, so you have to get up when sun rises.
To conclude, if the mosquito problem is solved (which is not difficult, we stuffed toilet paper there and no mosquito in the rest of the days), the cottage is a good place to stay, if you like old building.
The cabin was very nice, and will easily handle up to four people! The view over the harbor is absolutely amazing! The area is very peaceful and relaxing. Since we were early in the season (June), it was very easy to get from the cabin to Acadia National Park. We could be in the main part of the park within 20 minutes. There was a seal that hung around in the harbor that we watched each evening, and we also saw an eagle fly by the back deck early one morning. We really enjoyed the Southwest Harbor (the quiet peninsula) and the people were very friendly.
This is a wonderful place to stay for a couple - just perfect in every way! Storey and Kandi have everthing you need to feel comfortable and relaxed. The views of Southwest Harbor were fantstic and Acadia and Bar Harbor are close enough that the drive is not a problem But the seclusion and sense of peace once you're at Eagle Watch is a highlight of each day! We didn't want to leave...
