About Carolyn Miller
We are a retired couple--a native Californian and transplanted Floridian. We enjoy traveling ourselves and also enjoy providing a happy experience for the travelers who visit our mountain home. We enjoy cooking and think our mountain kitchen reflects that interest. In the photo, we're hiking in the woods behind our cabin, along a creek that runs to the north fork of the Tuolumne River.
Carolyn Miller purchased this Cabin in 1988
Why Carolyn Miller chose Long Barn
We have been visiting the Pinecrest area for over twenty-five years and love its peaceful, family-friendly atmosphere and scenic beauty and interest. Away from the heavy traffic and crowds of Tahoe and Yosemite, but close enough for a visit, this lovely part of the Sierra provides all of the activities that people come to the mountains for. Sonora Pass was the earliest route over the Sierra and is one of the highest and most scenic.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our mountain home was custom built to modern standards in 1988. Among other things, the outside walls were built with 2" x 6"s, instead of the standard 2" x 4"s, allowing for 50 per cent more insulation and strength, which makes the house easy to keep warm and cozy in winter and cooler in summer. We live on the coast and love to visit the mountains, so we feel we have the best of both worlds. Our house has been well taken care of. It's hard to believe that 20 years have passed.

Winter wonderland
We had such a great time at this cabin. It snowed the while time we were here. The wood burning stove kept us warm. The kitchen had everything we needed to warm up out Thanksgiving dinner. And the pool table room was great.
Fantastic comfy spot with a courteous & communicative host!
We had a great time, bringing some young children for their first experience in the Sierras. The house was surprisingly toddler-friendly with soft carpet and a big open living room for play (just supervise near those steps and such). We loved playing games with the adults at the dining room table, and we cooked several delicious meals - we never had any trouble finding cook tools, plateware, etc. This kitchen is nicely stocked!
We wound up needing only small things like dish soap, and having Cold Springs Market right up the road made that very trivial. We love the area and this was a great spot to stay.
Note that the road into the development is pretty steep: if I came in winter I'd be very prepared for serious traction challenges.
Thank you, Miller family! We hope to return someday soon.
Quiet and Relaxing!
We stayed here for my husband's birthday weekend and we had a great time, even got a little snow! The pool table was a hit! Neighborhood was very quiet and it was very peaceful and relaxing. Bed are not so comfortable so I would bring a mattress topper and remember to bring your own sheets, pillows and towels! Our only complaint was that the floors in the kitchen and bathrooms were dirty and toilets didn't look as if they were cleaned. Owners were great to communicate and did apologize. We would definitely stay again!
Just want to note that family members had used the cabin and hadn't been clear on cleaning requirements. We do normally have a cleaning service come in.
Mountain Getaway
The Long Barn cabin was well-furnished and comfortable. The beds, the deck, and everything else about it made our stay so pleasant! We didn't spend any time in either the loft or the basement (other than to wash a load of clothes) but the main floor felt just like home. We loved cooking on the chef's stove. The refrigerator was pristine clean and had plenty of space for our things. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin with us!
Wonderful getaway in the woods
Beautiful and serene spot!
Scenic cabin life!
Very nice cabin in a scenic area, very close to Pinecrest Lake and other points of interest. We enjoyed our time there and look forward to returning. We enjoyed the pool table in the game room. Nice bbq on the back deck. Plenty of dishes/utensils in kitchen. There are also plenty of blankets and pillows in the rooms. We loved it. Thank you Millers for sharing your cabin.
Map
Pinecrest Lake is your swimming and boating destination. Outdoor movies are shown in the summer. The business area there has a store, restaurant and post office. There are many hiking trails and self-guided nature trails in the area. Information and maps are available at the Summit Ranger Station. Donnell Vista is a beautiful viewpoint about 21 miles east on Hwy. 108, which continues to Sonora Pass at just under 10,000 feet and on to the eastern Sierra (closed by snow in winter). A skating rink is open at Long Barn in the winter. There are antique shops in Jamestown and Sonora as well as in other towns along Hwy. 49. The Black Oak Casino is located at Tuolumne City.
