Melissa and Bill have created a beautiful getaway for all types of vacationers. My family loved every part of our stay. The home is warm and comfortable, and made inviting by our hosts. Our daughter and her friend loved staying in the room above the garage, while my husband and I stayed on the main floor. The setting could not be any more perfect for this home. Surrounded by trees, a beautiful back yard...and the beach. We all had fun day and night by and in the water...swimming, kayaking, rock hunting, relaxing, and taking photos. The sunset and stars are an extraordinary. Not far from the home are beautiful beaches where more rock hunting will provide you with millions of year old treasures. We visited many surrounding towns and went zip lining, parasailing, hiking, and enjoyed the arts, and unique food venues. Melissa is a genuine, humble and delightful person that will help you plan a memorable getaway. My family was able to enjoy adventurous activities while I took the more relaxing avenue since I have a brain injury. ps...I didn't forget you all Melissa...just coming around from a bad stroke...will send more sunset and night pictures as I continue my healing.

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for the kind and thoughtful review! It was honestly a delight to have your family stay with us and you really made our 1st summer of renting special with the gorgeous "stars at night"cabin photograph and your wonderful gifts for my girls upon your departure! We were so happy to know that you and your family enjoyed the lake and beach and kayaks during your visit. I even took my girls zip lining last summer after you told me how much fun it was for your daughter and her friend! Mostly I am so happy that you are on your way to recovery and if we can help your family in any way with a short or long stay please let us know! We loved knowing that your family was having a wonderful time together!

Gorgeous Home

  • 4 of 5

***We actually stayed here in August of 2014***

First off, I have to say, the owners are wonderful and always available if help was needed...we think that is THE most important part when renting a place...

This house is GORGEOUS - seriously, GORGEOUS. The "3 level" back yard was awesome - grassy area first, then take steps down to fire-pit then couple more steps to the beach - very cool! The pictures of the inside do not do this house justice!

The layout of the house was fantastic for us - we had another family come stay with us - the big bedroom, that is above the garage and somewhat "separated" from the rest of the house, was perfect for the kids. Only thing I would suggest is to make that room (because it was SO spacious) more of a "bunk-room", replace old TV and/or, if anything else, replace the hideaway couch.

Basement was awesome and kept kids entertained when the weather was rainy...

They had plenty of life-jackets and water shoes for use when using the Kayaks (which was REALLY cool)...

My favorite part of the stay was searching for petoskey stones - I found a couple really nice ones!

We would rent this place again and again but the very rocky-bottom beach made it really hard for all the kids to swim with ease.

Here's the MOST MEMORABLE event - that will stay in the #1 spot forever....I was sitting outside on the steps, looking out at the water (at 2am, the night of arrival), after spending all evening unpacking and getting everything in place for the week. As I stood up and turned around to head back inside I was greeted by a BLACK BEAR who was only about 20 feet away. Needless to say, we scared the crap out of each other!! He took off one way and I ran into the house. Next day, we found trash cans overturned as did the neighbors on the street. Apparently there hadn't been a black bear sighting anywhere near the area in over 5 years.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your review and your wonderful story about the bear! I remember talking with your husband and he said you all had a great sense of humor about it:-) Many of our guests have asked if he/she will be back. We haven't seen any bears since, but the Bald Eagle keeps showing up in the mornings. We loved having your family stay at our home and we were truly happy that you and your husband and sons all had so much fun!

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a fun time with the family. Lots of bonding. Hanging out by the beach, playing yard games, walked the beach looking for petoskey stones and great cook outs. My wife and I went road biking down the dixie highway and up to Charlevoix. Visited Charlevoix and had a brew at the tap house. Lots to do and so little time to do it. By the way the house is great and it had all the amenities. Loved listening to the waves hit the shore at night and in the morning...especially when we didn't have to get up for work. Oh...the view is fantastic! A memorable vacation. We loved it!

Even better the second year!

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing! We stayed here for a family vacation in June, based on a great experience we had last year. The owners are amazing and our vacation was so relaxing and stress-free.

The property is very clean, well kept, and in a perfect location. Thank you for opening your cottage to us. You've given us a family vacation on the lake with memories that will last a lifetime.

Dream vacation. That's for sure.

Family Time

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this beautiful lake home. Melissa and Bill have provided everything you could possibly need to keep kids occupied in either rainy weather or sunny weather. Since it was such beautiful weather when we were there, we spent most of our time in and around the water. Unfortunately, the waves will have to bring in a lot of new Petosky stones since our grandchildren spent hours picking up Petosky stones and I think there are now officially no Petosky stones on your beach. All that was neccessary for campfires and relaxing on the beach was provided and we took advantage of it almost every night. Believe me, the sunsets were even more gorgeous than you can imagine.

The house was clean and very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. We didn't expect the kitchen to be so well stocked and had come prepared with some things we didn't expect to find in a rented vacation home. We were dumbfounded by everything they had actually supplied in their home. We did go out to eat at Boones in Traverse City, The Pelican's Nest Restaurant in Bellaire, and The Villager Pub in Charlevoix. All these restaurants were kid friendly and we loved the food. The only other time we left the home was to take the kids miniature golfing in Traverse City. Otherwise we didn't want to leave the beach.

The week went by way too quickly and we were sorry to see it end. We would love to come back if vacation times for our family members work out because everyone had an absolutely wonderful time. We would certainly recomend it as a vacation spot for any family.
