Quiet location but dirty and bug infested.

  • 2 of 5

We loved the quiet, the location and the friendly puppies. Condo floors were filthy and ants were all over the kitchen, living room and bedroom. There were cobwebs all over the kitchen and the stove was filthy. The shower grout was all mildewed. There was also no a/c, so staying in the condo during the afternoon was not comfortable.

Nature sounds of coqui frogs and night time rain with great privacy in a simple home.

  • 5 of 5

David provides a small 1 BR home in a rural (dirt road) neighborhood with plenty of privacy. The setting is very quiet excepting nature sounds, and we slept very well on the comfortable memory foam mattress. The neighboring unit is David's office, and we never noticed him working there. The inside is homey and comfortable with somewhat plain brown accents. It is obviously cleaned regularly, but could use a deep cleaning, including deep carpet cleaning. There are plenty of general supplies, and clear instructions on the counter. The running (tap) water is from catchment and is not potable, but David provides more than enough bottled (5 gallon and dispenser) for drinking, tooth brushing and cooking). We will plan to stay here again.

Do take David's advice on restaurants and things to do. It you like rural, lush greenery, tropical rain forest, and rugged shoreline with some interesting beaches, not too far (30 minutes) from Hilo this is a good place.

Mahalo,

David

Lovin' Lemon Cello!

  • 5 of 5

From the time we were greeted by the pooches until they gave us a wag 'goodbye' we were made to feel welcome and at home. Nice change of pace from staying in the city. Short drive into Pahoa for some fantastic pizza, great base location if planning to visit Volcanoes National Park. Cottage is well maintained and comfortable. If Mother Natures symphony bothers you at night then you haven't done enough exploring during the day! (just the nature noises of critters that city noise covers up if staying in town at a hotel). Trail guides on the table inspired us to get moving and we had a great time. Excellent value.

Lemon Cello - Nice Property, Quality Stay

  • 4 of 5

Stayed for just one night. Spacious, immaculately clean, well appointed, excellently maintained, easy to find using GPS device. The "help document" on the kitchen counter was really thorough and useful. Kitchen has everything you need - and more - in terms of utensils. Separate drinking water provided (because in this area of Hawaii tap water is not good enough to drink). Quiet country living experience - just you and night time nature sounds. Location is a little remote so if you bring some basic groceries with you - assuming you intend to cook - it will save you a trip back to the nearest grocery story, which is a 10+ minute drive each way.

The wireless internet worked very well for us. Cable TV service not included, but there is a TV on site, so if you have TV through your phone, you can watch on a proper screen - we did not do it, but all the infrastructure seemed to be there.

No air con, but not an issue, as it really cools off at night on the windward side of the island, and this unit has plenty of airflow, as well as fans. Bring insect repellent if you want to be outside in the early evening.

My one suggestion is to add a reading lamp of some sort in the living room. Light from the ceiling fixture was okay, but a lamp would be better.
