The best view in the world?

  • 5 of 5

A little bit of an exaggeration, but the views from the terrace of Villa Gelsomina are truly stunning.

We have now stayed in the Dolce Vita apartment, which is on the top floor of the villa, three times and are returning for a fourth time in the Spring of 2010. The apartment is lovely - clean, well maintained and equipped with everything you will need. William, the owner, is exceptionally friendly and helpful - the information pack that he provides is excellent.

Lake Orta is beautiful and the little town of Orta San Gulio is charming. There is plenty to do and see in the area and there is a wide choice of restaurants to suit every taste and pocket.

What more recommendation can we give than 4 visits in consecutive years - who knows, we might even go twice in 2010!

Stunning - again!

  • 5 of 5

It’s our second stay at Villa Gelsomia, in Panorama. The first time was perfect, and the second time was even better. The villa itself is perfect for a couple or small family, with a self contained bedroom, lounge/ kitchen, and bathroom. Outside there is a spacious terrace, enough for two sun beds, and a dining table. The apartment is well appointed with all the kitchen utensils required, a TV, games, and toiletries in the bathroom. Plenty of parking, spacious garden with chess board and swimming pool (which is closed off season).

Very importantly - William, the host, is an absolute pleasure to deal with. The pre-arrival information is extremely detailed, with excellent instructions on how exactly to find the villa (and this is true for his other properties too). His communication is excellent, sending a text message before, upon arrival and during the stay, as well as at the end. We had no problems during our stay, but one has the feeling that if we did, we would have immediate support from our host.

I would recommend this property in a heartbeat, and any which William lists on here.

Fabulous situation and villa ... fabulous holiday

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed by the pack of information that William forwarded to us prior to the commencement of our holiday at Lake Orta, but even more impressed by the position of Villa Gelsomnia and by the quality of the accommodation. Add to this the help and assistance that were available in the case of problems and you have the formula for a perfect holiday....we had a perfect holiday!

Villa Gelsomnia has a wonderful position some 200m above the lake towards the southern end, with great views along the lake to Orta San Giulio and beyond, and over the hills that border the west side of the lake to the Monte Rosa massif ... a fabulous site on a clear sunny day from the extensive balcony of the Panorama apartment.

Included in the info. pack was detailed information on a number of local walks, put together by William himself: we tried three of them and were very impressed both with the navigational information, and with the goal(s) of the walks.

We had a problem with a faulty microwave in the apartment and reported this to William by text. Within minutes he rang us at the apartment, checked what the problem was, and within hours it was replaced! Amazing service!

The result of this excellence is that we shan't hesitate to rebook a holiday ar Villa Gelsomnia! Thank you William!

Absolutely gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

Villa Gelsomina Panorama is one of the most beautiful locations we've had the pleasure of visiting. As far as the facility itself, everything one would want and need is anticipated. The weather was so beautiful we spent a greet deal of our time on the balcony enjoying the surroundings. It's peaceful and gorgeous. Watching Monte Rosa appear from time to time is fascinating.

We so enjoyed shopping at Le Bottega di Edo. It's such a typical small Italian food source and was fun to sample and purchase the fixings for many antipasta meals. We loved La Locanda del Buon Riso - food wand service was wonderful even with small language barrier. Best of all one would not want to miss Il Cucchiaiodilegno. A little understanding of Italian would be helpful but the staff is very good at helping and the food is so good one doesn't need much advice. Book early for this one.

As for day trips, all around the lake is lovely and we especially enjoyed Ente Botanic Garden of Villa Taranto. After a morning of strolling the lovely gardens, we lunched at the sight and it was a most enjoyable day.

William and his staff are very helpful. I highly recommend Villa Gelsomina.

Villa Gelsomina is just 3km from the lakeside village of Orta San Giulio, where there are mouth-watering restaurants, cafes, pizzerias, trattorias and gelaterias (particularly good!) catering for all tastes and ages. There is also a great local restaurant in walking distance (400m). Many wonderful day trips can be made in the area, at Lake Orta, Lake Maggiore, and in the mountains. We provide descriptions of a series of favourite local walks, most of which start from your front door! Great beach with all facilities (sunbeds, pedalos, canoes, cafe etc.) at Miami at the south end of the lake, lots of other places to swim. Boat trips on Lake Orta, rowing boats for hire at Orta San Giulio. 1 hour's drive from Milan, just 90 minutes from Turin. Skiing locally on the Mottarone, Val Vigezzo, or Macugnaga.
