About Margene Walz

Hi, Welcome to my home – My name is Margene Walz. I am the owner and am thrilled to show you around. Many years ago I moved to California from Nebraska but have always missed the mid-western values and hospitality. Through the advice of my brother Mike Walz of Crystal Beach's Walz Family Builders I seized the opportunity to sell my California condominium and built on Bolivar. I appreciate the area and the hospitality. It is like coming back to my roots. I am very pleased to be able to share my home with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. (By the way...the picture is of my great nephew, Alex. He photographs cuter than I do.)

Margene Walz purchased this house in 2014

Why Margene Walz chose Texas

Since my brother owns a home and a business in Crystal Beach I have visited many times. Each time I fell more and more in love with the area. I decided to invest my retirement money here and I can't wait to share this peaceful stress-free beach with you.

What makes this house unique

The front deck is 16' deep - 8' is covered and 8' is uncovered. Guests are able to enjoy the shade, read, sip a glass of wine or beer or tan in the sunshine. The deck which wraps around 3 sides of the house has private doors from the Master bedroom and Guest bedroom. Each has its own romantic personal space. But the most impressive thing about this home is the spectacular beach front view. The family area under the house includes an enclosed shower, bar with enclosed refrigerator and 2 built-in picnic tables. It is a wonderful area that will accommodate many family members and guests. Plus it is brand new and offers you all the comforts of home with the additional bonus of hearing and watching the surf.

A Texas Beach Delight - Pelican Bay will impress and de-stress you!

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful experience! This precious house provided exactly what it promised and more. A very efficient layout with lots of natural light and pocket doors made us feel right at home. The sheets and towels were fluffy, soft and inviting - don't even think of settling for a condo or hotel when you could stay here! Everything was in excellent condition,. We drank our coffee on the porch overlooking the ocean every morning. The beach is literally a shell's throw away, and we had it nearly to ourselves. We used the charcoal grill and ate our meals outside in the ocean breeze - delightful!

Ms. Walz, the owner, provided excellent communication and information from the time we booked (nearly 5 months in advance), and she immediately responded to all my questions.

Pelican Bay will not disappoint you! It was the perfect trip for our family - a relatively short drive and a perfect ocean experience. If you are looking for a great Texas beach experience - this is it!

Relax, Relax, Relax

  • 5 of 5

The house is wonderful. It was a getaway for 3 crazy old ladies. Loved the email that was sent which just highlighted everything you needed to know about the house and all the instructions. You have provided everything one would need for a great stay and the kitchen is really stocked . Surprised at all that was there in the kitchen. I had read that someone had left a blender so we did use it for our drinks, which

was nice that we didn't have to haul our own.

And loved the micro fiber sheets, I will be buying some. I had the Master and the bed was very comfortable as were the other beds, per the ladies that slept there. I have to say that very little time was spent inside except to do a little cooking. We did use the grill a couple of times and it was great. Most of our time was spent on the deck. There was a fantastic view, and was just right there on the beach. Walked over to do a little beach walking a couple of times. Drove down the beach also. Amazing full moon and actually saw a couple of sunrises. And finally saw a dolphin from the deck the last morning. Had a night hawk sleeping on the railing one morning for a couple of hours and several tree frogs came to visit. We were the only ones there for most of the week. Perfect time to go. Weather was amazing. Did have a few mosquitos especially the last night, but a little bug spray goes a long way. It is a perfect, beautiful, clean and comfortable home. I can't think of a single complaint. Would definitely recommend this. Great set up for a positively stress free beautiful stay. Loved it and will be back.

This is a wonderful beach house! The view is fantastic & the beach is just steps away. The beds are comfy & the kitchen is well stocked with any utensil you might need. I definitely will check availability on the property for my next visit to Crystal Beach!

Lovely home

  • 4 of 5

We had a really nice time at the beach this weekend. The house is really pretty, cool and clean with a great view of the gulf. There were a few things though. The listing says that housekeeping is included. Not sure what this means but no housekeeper ever came by till we were leaving. Didn't really need or want that service, but I know we paid for it. It also says laundry detergent is provided since they want you to wash your towels when you leave, but there was none that I could find. Had to go get some. None of the outdoor electric outlets worked. I wish it had been more specific about what is provided and what is not. We brought things we didn't need (spices for cooking, extra chairs) and needed things we didn't have (foil and plastic wrap, hair dryer). Master bed very hard. And finally, we would have liked an earlier check in time and a later check out so we could have spent more time having fun on the beach. These are all fairly minor things though, it was still a very fun, relaxing and rejuvenating weekend!

Owner's Response: First I would like to thank the guest for taking the time to write a review and I would like to address the issues stated. 1) Most of the rentals on Bolivar are homes not hotels. The cleaning service thoroughly cleans the house after each departure. There is no daily maid service. Even though this guest thought they didn’t “want or need” a cleaning service, when they left there was a big puddle of stickiness on one of the floors. This is why we charge a cleaning fee. We want to ensure that each guest comes into a fresh clean house. 2) In my welcome letter I do state there are laundry pods for the guests use while they are in the house. I’m not sure why this guest didn’t see them. 3) Regarding the outdoor electrical outlets not working, the guest is correct. During her stay the breaker was thrown and the outdoor outlets stopped but again in my Welcome letter I inform the guests where the breaker box is located. All they needed to do was check it and flip the switch. Plus, I am just a phone call away and am always happy to assist my guests. Once the breaker switch was flipped all the outdoor outlets worked. 4) Again, in my welcome letter sent 4-5 days before check-in I let the guests know items they need to bring which includes foil, plastic wrap and hair drier. To make the stay more convenient guests need to read the complete letter. 5) Most guests find the master bed very comfortable. 6) I appreciate the fact most guests wish they could stay longer and enjoy the beach. But my check-in and check-out times have remained the same since I opened the house in 2014. The times are stated on the website and in my welcome letter. I ask the guests to depart on time so the housekeepers can do a thorough cleaning for the next guests. With this being said, these guests did not leave on time but took their dogs for a walk. This caused the cleaning service to get a late start. Good housekeepers are hard to find on Bolivar and guests being inconsiderate of their time makes it hard for them to maintain their schedule.

Very Nice

So im about a year and half past due on this review, but better late than never right?!

The home is beautiful, fully updated with everything you could need away from home for a week. Margene was very pleasant to work with, and would do business with her in a heart beat. We had a wonderful time!
