About the property

Lake Front Home With 4 Bedroom, 3 Full Baths With Lots Of Space To Play

Need to get away from work and hectic schedules? Pack up the car and head to our Lake St. Helen Vacation Home. Just 5 miles off I75 in mid-Michigan, it's just what you need to chase the stress away.

Lake St. Helen is a well kept secret. It's an all sports lake great for swimming, water skiing, tubing, personal water crafts, fishing and much more. Bring your boat, rent our pontoon, or rent a fishing boat at the marina just a few blocks away. The lake boasts a 75% uninhabited waters edge of state land. This makes for colorful evenings as the sun sets across the lake. Sit by a campfire at the waters edge and take it all in as you listen to the camp fire crackle. Don't forget the marshmallows!

In the fall, come up for the beautiful color change. The drive is beautiful, not to mention all the color right across the lake. The smell of the leaves and crisp fall air will cure you of almost anything.

A favorite time is spring. The earth is bursting with new life and the animals are coming alive. There's always a fawn or two in the woods with mom and dad not too far away. You'll more than likely see them on a walk.

No matter the time of year or what the weather brings, there's plenty for the family to do. A game room in the basement has ping pong, pool and foos ball tables. Sleeping space will never be a problem at this cottage. There's trundle beds and several bunk beds, enough to house a large family or even two!

Choose your time of year and make your reservation. Once you've been to this 'Northern Get Away,' you'll make it an annual vacation.

About Donna Laing

Married 33 years, we are a close family with 4 adult children and 1 grandchild. The cottage was our re-connecting place. Just the right distance from our home, (2 1/2 hrs) the cottage has always been the our favorite family vacation. It was not until the economy

faltered did we decide to rent this jewel. Most of our guests have returned for several years. We hope you will do the same.

Donna Laing purchased this house in 1997

Why Donna Laing chose Michigan

Our lake home was owned by my brother before us.

We loved the peaceful area and beautiful setting so much we bought a small home down the street. When he decided to sell we quickly sold ours in order to have this awesome, spacious, family cottage.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is in a small town with just the essentials for a convenient stay. Located on a beautiful wooded street with well kept homes and a lake that is like glass in the evening, we can't think of a better place to enjoy.

Everything we wanted

  • 5 of 5

I've rented cabins up north a few times in the last couple years and this home was by far the best one I've stayed in. Very clean and taken care of. The place was so nice that we felt obligated to clean it and vacuum before we left. it's very spacious and the water frontage is huge. Will definitely be going back with my family in 2017.

Beautiful and Well Kept.

  • 5 of 5

The lake house is located on the lake and is well kept up.

Lake St. Helen is unique in being rather private with a significant amount of land surrounding the lake being owned by the State of Michigan. You feel like you are really getting away.

The pictures of the house, on the website, do not show how well kept and updated this house really is. You can tell that Mr. and Mrs. Laing put a lot of time and effort into keeping the property in prime condition.

It is a real bargain considering the location and excellent condition of the house and grounds.

Relaxing and comfortable!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed this house very much and it was just what we needed. Very spacious and relaxing. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the breeze coming off the lake. There is something special about taking naps outside with a steady breeze and the sounds of water!

Thank you for making your property available for others to enjoy!

Great family vacation getaway in a well maintained home with loads of space

  • 5 of 5

This was our annual family vacation. We have 6 adults and 7 children under the age of 12. We were all able to eat our meals at the dining table at the same time. Had plenty of beds, the lake was great it was shallow enough for the little ones to enjoy without worrying. We also rented the pontoon boat which was great for taking the kids fishing and caught fish! The kitchen was well stocked with everything one would need. Everything was really good and we are planning on returning next year to the same home for our vacation

Absolutely Awesome Place

  • 4 of 5

Spacious, comfortable, relaxing. The views from the back deck and water's edge fire pit were absolutely spectacular. We have older kids, so the basement game room area was great for hanging out when the weather was a bit nasty for two of the days during our stay. Great fishing, boating, and beautiful surroundings (we even spotted a Bald Eagle while on the water one day). Probably our last family vacation as the kids go off to college, get jobs, etc. Thanks for a great final set of memories. Only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is because there is no beach on the property, there is a public beach right down the street, but a beach on the property would have been great.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a memorable stay. I wish we had a beach too but the erosion forced us to put in a sea wall. At that time we added the 12 x 15 sand area so young kids had a place to play with sand toys. Come again! The Laings

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Great location, waterfront on beautiful peaceful lake, 1 min from downtown St. Helen, 15 minutes from shopping in West Branch, 25 minutes from Houghton Lake area. The lake was beautiful! Very large, great for boating, great fishing. The house was very nice. We had a small group, but it would be perfect for large groups. Open concept with lots of seating and plenty of beds. Basement has pool table, ping pong, and fooseball. There is a nice big yard and deck with grill and firepit. No beach at the house, but a public beach is right down the road for swimming.
