Dordogne: The Dordogne is one of the most beautiful parts of France, and is well known to the French for its food and wine, leading to the saying 'en Perigord, on Mange Bien. Perigord is the home of the truffle (the black diamond) and the world renowned foie gras. There are numerous local restaurants that offer all the regional delights at very affordable prices, it is easy to pass a delightful evening sampling the local delicacies whilst enjoying one of the regions fine wines.

The Dordogne River is very popular for those who enjoy canoeing and fishing, many beautiful chateaux can be seen whilst lazily meandering down the river. As the centre of prehistory in France, there are countless caves to explore and some of the worlds finest cave paintings can be found in the Dordogne, the National Museum of Prehistory is located at Les Eyzies, just 20 minutes from the house. There are some very good golf courses in the region. The Dordogne has something to offer everyone.

Sarlat: Sarlat is one of the most fascinating and beautifully restored towns in France, it is the capital of Perigord Noir.

Sarlat occupies the top spot in terms of tourists and culture in this region. Over a million visitors discover or redisvover the medieval town every year and it deserves to be explored. The town is full of character and charm with medieval and renaissance houses built in the honey coloured local stone. There is a large market held every Saturday and a food market on a Wednesday morning where you can sample many of the regional delicacies and wines. The 16th & 17th century architectural treasures are here for your admiration and discovery. All summer there are wonderful musical festivals in nearby towns & numerous nocturnal markets where you can sample all the traditional delights whilst mingling with the locals. Three of the most beautiful perigord villages are close to the house. Many of the attractions the Dordogne has to offer can be easily reached from Sarlat.

Grogeac Haut The house : In spring the fruit trees blossom on the winding terraces of the garden.

The deer pass by to eat the windfall fruit, red squirrels scurry along the paths and cheekily stop to ask for nuts.

In May the cuckoo returns to her nest and sings cheerily, whilst the green woodpecker can be heard in the trees.

In the early morning it is easy to find an astonishing variety of wild mushrooms, garden morilles can be found in May and in the autumn cepes can be found in the woods. The badgers snuffle at the bottom of the garden.

It is a place to relax and absorb the view whilst enjoying the local delights of foie gras and sampling the numerous local wines. The house is superbly located to offer you a wonderful holiday whether you prefer exploring or simply just relaxing by the swimming pool.

At the end of the day you can simply relax and enjoy the excellent views of the Dordogne valley.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a lovely Christmas holiday here. It was a great surprise to find the house had been wonderfully decorated for the Christmas holiday a lot of effort had been put into making this is wonderful Christmas, thank you Kate nad Eric. The house is very spacious & very tastefully decorated & furnished through out. The house has excellent views & the location is superb. We would recommend it to any one. Sue & Greg Dec 2005.

I am a keen golfer & the number of courses to choose from is excellent. On the whole everything was better than expected, the photos do not do this house justice. The views from the garden are amazing, we enjoyed many nights sitting in the pergola enjoying the peace & tranquillity. It was nice to drink our wine out of crystal matching glasses!

I will be coming back every year. Phillip & Rebecca May 2006

This house needs only one word to describe it and that is' excellent 'we had a great holiday here & have many happy memories of our well earned holiday.

Beautiful home with lovely owners.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very large house that really has fantastic views.

Excellent location, wonderful hot tub and very nicely thought out property, and extremely clean.

We came to Sarlat especially for the truffle festival and we were certainly not disappointed with this or the house.

We would certainly book for next summer as Katie explained about the summer night food markets that sound delicious.

This house really is a pleasure to stay in owned by two really kind people.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for taking the time to write such a lovely review. The truffle festival is a very popular weekend event and we were so pleased that you enjoyed it, you do need to book early to get tickets for the cookery demonstrations as they get booked up well in advance. The truffle food market is a lovely event that lets you taste the different ways you can enjoy truffles at very affordable prices. As holiday home owners we do try our best to help our guests enjoy their holiday and are willing to help in any way possible.

What a great holiday home.

  • 5 of 5

This holiday has been the best we have had for many years and it was due to Jeaneric and Katie who really are lovely owners who put everything into helping their guests enjoy their stay.

You have to be up early to catch them cleaning the pool but it is worth the effort as they have so many helpful tips and suggestions about where to visit and little gems about where the best places are to buy things.

The house and outside pool/ BBQ area really are superbly designed.

As soon as you arrive the welcome is lovely and the treats in the fridge are a really thoughtful touch.

We will certainly comeback to this house next year.

An amazone holding home.

  • 5 of 5

A great spacious house with the most amazing views.

This is a house with absolutely everything and more that you could want in a holiday home, there has been a lot of thought and effort put into this house, the pictures do not do it justice.

The pool, spa and BBQ area are the best we have ever rented, Jeaneric cleans the pool early every morning so it is always crystal clear water which is rare in a holiday home.

The welcome pack was really appreciated and very generous.

The house is fabulous and the owners are kind, helpful and helped us have one of our best holidays.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for taking the time to write a review. We do try our best and hope our guests enjoy the house, we really do not mind making restaurant reservations or give suggestions on what places to visit. The Dordogne has so many places to visit some better than others so if we can help our guests in making their choices than we are more than happy. Our photos are not photo shopped but we will try to improve them!

A beautiful holiday home with breath taking views.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful house, it has everything you need, amazing views, an excellent location, peace and tranquility.

The house is really a dream holiday home, the outside space is also well thought out and the BBQ area is fantastic.

The attention to detail was appreciated by all in our party, there are little touches through out the house and garden that reflects how lovely and thoughtful the owners are.

We will certainly rebook this house in the future.

Thank you to Jeaneric and Katie for such a lovely holiday home and their kindness.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The views and location of the house were the main reasons why we bought the house, you can actually see Domme which is over 10km away. Although you are only a few minutes from Sarlats old town you do feel as though you are in the countryside as it is a peaceful area. We hope all of our guests enjoy their stay as we do try to understand how holiday time is limited and precious. We look forward to seeing you again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We do try to make sure that our guests enjoy their stay as we know how important holidays are. We do try to be discreet when cleaning the pool and hottub. The house is large which makes it ideal for large families or groups of friends, there is always a spot where you can retire to be alone if you do wish to get away from everybody! We try to keep the house well equipped and renew the appliances on a regular basis so things do not look shabby. We were sad to see you leave as you were such a lovely family and it was nice to see three generations enjoying their holiday time together. The champagne will be on ice waiting for you for your next visit.
