About Bob and Pam Hankins
Little Cabin in the Woods is the result of two couples dreaming of the ideal get-away. Rod and Anita, both educators, and Bob and Pam, a lawyer and an educator, are long-time friends who dreamed of owning a cabin as a home-away-from-home. Now retired, we enjoy traveling, grandchildren, the St. Louis Cardinals, corgis, and spending extended periods of time at the cabin.
Bob and Pam Hankins purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Bob and Pam Hankins chose Jasper
Little Cabin in the Woods was not purchased---it was designed and built by the owners! With the assistance of a Mennonite father-son team, the cabin took form over two years of persistence and hard work. Our 'fingerprints' are all over the cabin. We painted and hung the cabinets, laid the hickory hardwood floor, made and hung the curtains, and decorated. Little Cabin in the Woods is a labor of love for us. It provides a get-away and a place of solitude that is unmatched in one of the most beautiful best-kept secrets in the US----Newton County, Arkansas.
What makes this Cabin unique
We created the ambiances you will enjoy! The cathedral-like windows that stream the outdoors in, the wrap-around deck, the jacuzzi tub, the handcrafted cedar bedstead, the photos, the stain-glass window in the front door are among the unique features of the cabin. Little Cabin in the Woods is remote enough to give you the feeling of solitude yet close enough to Jasper to allow you to run into the grocery story to pick up that forgotten item.

Great little big cabin
This is one of the top properties we've stayed in. Great place, great view and great owners.
We love hosting you! We agree that the view is great, and thanks for the many kind comments. Most importantly, thanks for being a loyal guest--we look forward to your return visit! Anita & Rod, Pam & Bob
A Very Special Memory Was Made During Our Stay
Was not sure what to expect but the cabin was great and just as the photos. Our group settled in and enjoyed the comfort and layout of the cabin. The wrap around deck was a favorite place to be in the evenings. We enjoyed going to many of the hiking areas in the Buffalo National River area. The most memorable will be when our group went to Whitaker Point. Our 23 year old daughter was out on the point alone. Later she told us she wondered why no one else was coming. The reason is her boyfriend slowly walked out to join her and after a few minutes got down on one knee and proposed! She accepted. The whole time tons of photos were being taken of the very special moment we will never forget. We will seriously consider the cabin again the next time we plan a family vacation. I would suggest this: since the road to the cabin is a county road, would be nice if the county could mow the shoulders of the road to the cabin, it was on the narrow side. But other than that a AAA+++ vacation and cabin! Thanks!
What a wonderful family experience--congrats to all! We are pleased that your family enjoyed the cabin and will have this special memory. We too enjoy the deck and the cabin design--both are open and spacious! Not sure mowing is a priority for county road crews in this rural area, but we will pass along your suggestion--thanks. We do hope you can visit again, and thanks for choosing Little Cabin in the Woods. Anita & Rod, Pam & Bob
Adventure in Nature
This was a beautiful cabin nestled in the woods. It was the best-stocked and furnished of all of the cabin’s in which we’ve stayed in the Ozarks and the Smokies. The owners with whom we communicated were cordial and helpful, and the cabin was extremely clean. We absolutely love the area around Jasper and Ponca, and this was a perfect retreat to enjoy it!! We will definitely plan another stay at this property!! Our only suggestion would be to add cable or satellite and maybe a downstairs television, especially in the event guests had children. Personally, we are outdoors people and only watch some television at night, so the TONS of movies stocked in the cabin were sufficient for us.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review! We are so pleased that you found the cabin a well-stocked and enjoyable retreat. We do hope you can make a return visit with family in the future. Thank you again for staying with us. Anita & Rod, Pam & Bob
It was beautiful and we had a great time!
It was such an easy process to rent, and the place was amazing! We had a wonderful time, and we’ll definitely be back!
We are thrilled that you enjoyed the cabin. We do want to provide wonderful accommodations and an enjoyable overall experience for our guests. We look forward to your return. Thanks for staying with us! Anita & Rod, Pam & Bob
Little cabin in the woods
The whole process was very smooth and easy. It was a beautiful house, great view off the back deck.
My only suggestion is to bring your own pillows. The pillows that have are so flat there is nothing left of them.
Also be careful on the far corner of the deck I am just a small woman but leaning against the rail it was wobbly, a big man may go right through.
Overall it was a great experience I would repeat.
Thanks for staying with us! We have replaced the pillows and secured the deck guard rail since your visit. Glad you enjoyed your stay. We do hope you can visit again. Anita and Rod, Pam and Bob
Little Cabin in the Woods is located within miles of the first designated national river, the Buffalo National River. With multiple 'put-ins,' the river offers leisurely canoeing, off-river exploration of historical sites, hiking, and horse-back riding. The road 'up the mountain' (74 West) is a beautiful scenic drive. Don't miss dining at the Low Gap Cafe for unbelievable cuisine! Highway 7 South also provides a lovely scenic drive. Stop at the Arkansas Grand Canyon for a breath-taking view. While at the Arkansas Grand Canyon, enjoy lunch or dinner at Cliff House Inn.
Be sure to make a visit to the Ponca area part of your trip! Ponca is approximately 12 miles west on Highway 74. (Turn right onto 74) View elk from the comfort of your vehicle. (Elk were re-introduced to Arkansas recently and are thriving. Elk can be viewed by turning left onto Highway 43 and driving a short distance. Additionally, enjoy the historical 100-year-old Boxley Baptist Church which still holds services, the historical farmstead, and the Elk museum in Ponca. Jasper, the county seat for Newton County, has its own delights. The Ozark Cafe is a time-honored tradition that serves down-home cooking to visitors and locals. Antiquing at Emma's Museum of Junk is a treat not to miss. The Chamber of Commerce offers hand-crafted items from local craftsmen as well as information about the area. Want to float the Buffalo? Several concessionaires offer canoe rentals, drop-off and and pick-up services.
Of course, Branson and all its entertainment venues is just one hour away from the cabin.
