Memorial Day Holiday Week

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Stuarts place. It felt like home away from home. He had everything you could need in this wonderful cottage. We walked everywhere we wanted to go. The screen porch was wonderful we had dinner out there a couple of nights. When we weren't home we were enjoying the wonderful restaurants and bars or walking the Boardwalk. I am in hope our schedule and the cottage schedule will allow us to come back next year. Thanks again for a wonderful Memorial Day Holiday in your beautiful Cottage.

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful month-long stay at this cozy and well appointed cottage. The furnishings are very comfortable and the location is fabulous. Just a block from the "main drag", while staying here I could walk to restaurants, bars and the waterfront. The cottage was immaculate and Stuart made me feel very welcome. The only problem I had was that the grill in the backyard wasn't working, but I let Stuart know and within a day he bought a brand new one and had it delivered. Stuart is a great and accommodating landlord. I would definitely rent from him again!

Great cottage, great location, great owner

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to Gulfport and this cottage is perfectly situated to take full advantage of the town. Within a short walking distance to the many shops, bars and restaurants yet located on a quiet side street. This little town is unlike any other southern Florida location we've been to other than Key West. The cool, laid-back vibe here is very relaxing and we really enjoyed our stay.

The cottage itself was clean and very comfortable and Stuart has included all the required amenities one might need. There's even a couple of bikes that we enjoyed during our stay (can't remember the last time I rode one!). Stuart was great to work with and exceptionally responsive to all inquiries. We truly enjoyed our visit and hope to stay here again at some future point.

Short Stay

  • 2 of 5

I have traveled to many states and rented many homes through VRBO and this was the first time that I stayed only one night of my scheduled four. My first issue was that I had to meet the owner at a certain time to receive the key to the home. This was an inconvenience to me, I should be able to get to the home at any time after the noted check in time. I had to not only make sure I was in town at the time the owner wanted to meet but I had to leave where I was at to make sure I made it to the rental at the specified time. I am on vacation and want to come and go on my time, this has never been an issue in any other VRBO property I have rented. There has always been a code to a key box or it was a keyless entry. I was also given another location and a time to return the key when I checked out, another inconvenience to myself. The inside of the home itself was very nice, no complaints with the exception of lack of central air conditioning. Unfortunately room window units cannot cool down a house. This is Florida, it is November and we are in the high 80's. The curtains in the house could not be pulled shut which leaves the heat to come in and no privacy.

The off street parking that is mentioned in the description is misleading. You have to unlock the gate and pull it open before you drive down a non paved alley to reach the off street parking. The large wooden gate with the wheels on backwards was very cumbersome to open much less close and try to lock up once you pulled in. This is not a good situation when you are alone and coming and going at all times of the day and definitely did not make me feel safe at night. If you do not plan to park in the back you are stuck with street parking and dragging luggage and everything else up the front lawn into the front door.

The town of Gulfport is nice, eclectic and has some good shopping and restaurants but I would recommend not staying in the town and make it a day trip. The beach in Gulfport is on a bay, it does not compare to the beaches of St. Pete, Fort DeSoto or Pass-a-Grille.

Owner's Response: As for meeting at the house to check you in, check in time is stated at 4:00. You e-mailed me and stated that you could check in anytime after 1:00, that you were flexible and whatever time was good for me. Hence, I met you at the house at 4:00, which you never said was a problem. As for dropping the key off at another location, my office is less than a mile away. The central air is never an issue. I have people stay all summer long without any complaints. They are all new units and cool the house completely. As for the complaint about off street parking. All of the houses in Gulfport have alleys behind them with access to a parking pad. You can also park in front and walk up the cement walkway to the house, not lawn as stated. Gulfport is a great vacation spot. Read all the other reviews.....

Excellent Cottage Near Beaches and Tampa!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a wonderful option from the normal hotel stay. It was so nice to have 2 bedrooms, a SUPER comfy couch, kitchen for cooking, the fun lanai and the much needed extra toilet out there! :) The cottage is super cute with beachy type decor to get you really in the mood for your vacation, with a more upscale twist. The backyard was perfect for our small dog and allowed us for the first time to bring Lucky along! We loved how close we were to St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, St. John's Pass and also going into Tampa (about 30 minutes). Everything we needed was at the cottage, even a blender for my once-a-year Pina Colada! :)

Dr. Stuart made check-in and check-out super easy and we really had just such a great time. We would highly recommend to anyone. Gulfport downtown was very, very quiet during the day, and seemed to come to life at night with the restaurants. O'Maddy's had a long wait the one day so we tried Neptune's Grill - at best that was OK, I wouldn't recommend, but when we did get into O'Maddy's it definitely was GREAT! The week we were here the 4th of July they had a parade which was fun with necklaces and candy thrown out for all; and fireworks that we were able to see from the backyard with ease. They also have the main street lined with craft vendors - bought several necklaces, bracelets and earrings! FUN! You can definitely walk the 1 1/2 blocks to the main street where restaurants are located.

Dr. Stuart provides beach towels which were huge and great daily for the beaches. This has nothing to do with the cottage, but the only thing I would not recommend is the actual beachfront at Gulfport. We tried it, and it is rather filled with sea grass or something alllllll over the water floor. Easily dive 5-7 minutes to St. Pete's GORGEOUS, wide beaches. Definitely spend the money to go to Shell Key Island - you can find all kinds of whole shells and that was the absolute highlight of my trip. We were lucky enough to have a couple very quick dolphin sightings during our stay in Florida; at Shell Key we saw Devil Rays (apparently harmless) :), and some very interesting fish, and some shells that were already being called home by crabs! Ghost crabs also come out on the beach. For the first time I came home with clean clothes and not 4 loads of laundry! Awesome!

This was one of our best vacations and we thank Dr. Stuart very much. It was perfect for us and we can't thank you enough for letting our family stay!
