La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is a fully restored winemaker's cottage nestled in the peaceful winemaking village of Villers-la-Faye, only seven minutes from the stunning medieval town of Beaune.
The cottage is completely independent, private, and newly renovated. We do not live on-site. It is extremely quiet, as it tucked back in a lane (with ample free parking all around). The village boulangerie is just steps away so you will be assured of a fresh croissants every morning!
La Maison de la Vieille Vigne consists of one bedroom (with a queen-sized bed), one bathroom, and a main room with a fireplace at one end and a fully equipped kitchen at the other. There is also a private attached flagstone courtyard off the bedroom for outdoor meals, relaxing, or BBQ's. The cottage dates from around 1650 and boasts lovely exposed rock walls and oak beams. It is decorated with a tasteful mix of antiques and new furniture. There is a brand-new and very comfortable double pull-out couch in this Main Room, as well as a comfy chair for reading by the fireplace.
The cottage is completely equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in Burgundy, including high quality bed linens (beds are made up for your arrival), binders full of local information and tips, towels, and a bottle of local wine to welcome you.
While the village is calm and set in the spectacular undulating vineyards of the Hautes-Cotes, it is very central. Beaune - the beautiful and dynamic medieval town that is the centre of winemaking in the area - is only a seven minute drive away. The fascinating city of Dijon is thirty minutes North. All of the prestigious wine-making villages of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Gevrey-Chambertin, to name just a few are, are literally on your doorstep.
We will of course negotiate lower prices for long-term stays. Please don't hesitate to contact us for additional information and photos. A Bientot!
We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village of Villers-la-Faye where La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is located.
That was 18 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France. I wrote a bestselling memoir entitled 'My Grape Escape' about how we purchased and renovated our first vacation rental in Burgundy.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
We had our eye on this cottage for several years, thinking it would make the perfect vacation rental in Burgundy. Not only was it an ancient restored winemaker's cottage, but it was tucked away in a little lane in the oldest part of the village, yet just steps from endless walks through the local vineyards.
Franck finally managed to negotiate a private purchase through his 'village' connections and in 2005 we completely renovated the cottage, then furnished it with a brand new kitchen, a divinely comfortable queen-sized bed and double pull-out sofa bed, and some lovely antiques. La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has been 'home' in Burgundy for many thrilled guests, from Australian newlyweds on their honeymoon to a Canadian poet taking a three month writing retreat. We have many repeat guests that come back year after year!
Villers-la-Faye, where the cottage is located and where Franck is from, is off the tourist track yet only 7 minutes from Beaune. Some of the world's most prestigious winemaking villages - Pommard, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Vosne-Romanee to name just a few are literally on your doorstep.
In Villers-la-Faye real French people live, work, and make wine (there are several winemakers in the village, just steps from the cottage). La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has everything you need to sit back, relax and experience what authentic life in France is all about, from one week to several months.
We provide you with local information and insider insights you couldn't find anywhere else to help you make the most of your Burgundian escape.
My husband and I spent a week at the cottage and it was one of the most restful, beautiful and interesting stays of all of our many vacations. The Village itself is charming and the surrounding countryside is spectacular. We dined on the Burgundy canal at a little restaurant filled with truckers and workmen that was phenomenal, wine tasted to excess, visited castles and tiny towns and ventured frequently to Beaune and once to Dijon. We don't often return to the same place with so much of the world to see but this cottage and region may very well lure us back. Go immediately if you can!
What a perfect, central location to enjoy all that the Burgundy region has to offer. Let's begin with the apartment itself... exquisitely appointed, comfortable and charming, it is the height of romance and mellow atmosphere. The village is so peaceful we didn't want to leave, but when we did we were minutes from amazing sights and adventures. Can't say enough about this experience.
A charming cottage, well furnished and set up, within the delights of the Côte d'Or. In a quiet village, great to come home to after dégustations and various peregrinations. We recommend it to anyone with a love of Burgundy.
We highly recommend this little gem, especially in september
We just got back from a week staying in the lovely Maison de la Vieille Vigne! Having read about the house and Laura’s and Franck’s exploits in restoring it, we were excited to finally get here. Our trip had to be postponed a year due to a sudden death in our family, and Franck and Laura couldn’t have been more gracious or flexible in dealing with our changed circumstances, which made it all the more meaningful to finally arrive!
The house is tucked away behind the main road through the tiny village of Villers-la-Faye, about 10 minutes from Beaune by car (less if you’re a French driver, which I am not). It’s a wonderfully appointed and designed cottage! Our favorite features are admittedly the more modern amenities: the skylights, the washer and dryer (not a small concern considering our total vacation was three weeks!), the modern shower, and the full kitchen! We made our breakfasts here on many mornings, which helped us feel like we were living as locals for a while!
The town is very centrally located for the Cote d’Or, a region we’d never been to and are still only just discovering. After a week of driving around it, I can say this location is perfect, and the quiet village home makes for a peaceful and relaxing stay. There’s very little traffic, and we rarely saw neighbors, although the adjacent house next door had a family dinner most nights, which made the neighborhood feel homey.
We used the patio furniture for breakfasts and one picnic lunch, as well. The weather was perfect, highs in the 80s, and having a patio to relax on was another great feature of the house. We also loved having the windows open, where a nice breeze coupled with the thick stone walls meant that the house never got too warm, even on a hot spring day!
I highly recommend this cottage as a springboard for any kind of adventure in Burgundy!
My husband and I spent 9 days at La Maison de la Vieille Vigne in the middle of Burgundy's most well-known vineyards. It is like reading a great wine list! We loved the house - it was immaculate, well organized, very comfortable. If you are a cook, the kitchen has everything you will need to make a fantastic meal, using all of the wonderful local ingredients from the region. I would also like to add that the information that was left at the house was beyond comprehensive - the best grocery stores, the best baguettes, the best local restaurants - you really don't need to think about a thing - It is a fantastic base to explore this beautiful region in France and a very comfortable, cheerful home to return to at the end of day. We can't wait to return. We highly recommend this VRBO rental.
