La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is a fully restored winemaker's cottage nestled in the peaceful winemaking village of Villers-la-Faye, only seven minutes from the stunning medieval town of Beaune.
The cottage is completely independent, private, and newly renovated. We do not live on-site. It is extremely quiet, as it tucked back in a lane (with ample free parking all around). The village boulangerie is just steps away so you will be assured of a fresh croissants every morning!
La Maison de la Vieille Vigne consists of one bedroom (with a queen-sized bed), one bathroom, and a main room with a fireplace at one end and a fully equipped kitchen at the other. There is also a private attached flagstone courtyard off the bedroom for outdoor meals, relaxing, or BBQ's. The cottage dates from around 1650 and boasts lovely exposed rock walls and oak beams. It is decorated with a tasteful mix of antiques and new furniture. There is a brand-new and very comfortable double pull-out couch in this Main Room, as well as a comfy chair for reading by the fireplace.
The cottage is completely equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in Burgundy, including high quality bed linens (beds are made up for your arrival), binders full of local information and tips, towels, and a bottle of local wine to welcome you.
While the village is calm and set in the spectacular undulating vineyards of the Hautes-Cotes, it is very central. Beaune - the beautiful and dynamic medieval town that is the centre of winemaking in the area - is only a seven minute drive away. The fascinating city of Dijon is thirty minutes North. All of the prestigious wine-making villages of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Gevrey-Chambertin, to name just a few are, are literally on your doorstep.
We will of course negotiate lower prices for long-term stays. Please don't hesitate to contact us for additional information and photos. A Bientot!
We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village of Villers-la-Faye where La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is located.
That was 18 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France. I wrote a bestselling memoir entitled 'My Grape Escape' about how we purchased and renovated our first vacation rental in Burgundy.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
We had our eye on this cottage for several years, thinking it would make the perfect vacation rental in Burgundy. Not only was it an ancient restored winemaker's cottage, but it was tucked away in a little lane in the oldest part of the village, yet just steps from endless walks through the local vineyards.
Franck finally managed to negotiate a private purchase through his 'village' connections and in 2005 we completely renovated the cottage, then furnished it with a brand new kitchen, a divinely comfortable queen-sized bed and double pull-out sofa bed, and some lovely antiques. La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has been 'home' in Burgundy for many thrilled guests, from Australian newlyweds on their honeymoon to a Canadian poet taking a three month writing retreat. We have many repeat guests that come back year after year!
Villers-la-Faye, where the cottage is located and where Franck is from, is off the tourist track yet only 7 minutes from Beaune. Some of the world's most prestigious winemaking villages - Pommard, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Vosne-Romanee to name just a few are literally on your doorstep.
In Villers-la-Faye real French people live, work, and make wine (there are several winemakers in the village, just steps from the cottage). La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has everything you need to sit back, relax and experience what authentic life in France is all about, from one week to several months.
We provide you with local information and insider insights you couldn't find anywhere else to help you make the most of your Burgundian escape.
Franck and Laura's cottage in Villers la Faye is everything as advertised and so much more. We were fortunate enough to stay in their wonderful lovely, warm, cozy vintners cottage for 10 days. We had an absolutely wonderful experience and cannot wait to return.
Many a night, after visiting every vineyard and village we could trip upon, including driving up to the cliffs overlooking the valley, we would end the day with a flickering fire warming us while we sipped the amazing Bourgogne wines and cooked our dinner.
Their cottage is authentic, beautifully decorated, well appointed and could not be cleaner; while they have taken into consideration every need a visitor may have.
Many thanks to you both - abiento et merci', Ron and Patty Vodian, Boston, USA - October 2016
My husband and I had a wonderful time visiting the beautiful location with vineyards surrounding the village in every direction. We visited during the off-season, and enjoyed the fireplace and quaint cottage immensely. The home is equipped with everything we needed and more and the lovely bottle of wine when we arrived was a pleasant surprise!
We chose the lodging for our week in Burgundy because the location was convenient to Beaune and good for making day trips to any compass point. While comfortable, it turned out to be overpriced compared with other accommodations in the area. It is equipped like a Jersey shore beach rental. And a first for our fairly extensive travel experience in France and Europe, added a charge for utilities and city tax that was not figured into the advertised price but was deducted from the deposit: “see our email for details.” Include the cleaning deposit and you have a profit center. The absentee owners have a number of properties and seem interested in running the business. The experience lacks the charm and human interaction with which we are more familiar. Also, Villers la Faye is pretty much a dead town with nary a shop to buy bread or a piece of fruit, however convenient for making day trips in the area. We add that the owners, when we told them that the WiFi was not working, were prompt to look into what turned out to be a network problem.
We spent two weeks in Franck and Laura's cute little gite, La Maison de la Vieille Vigne as part of a five week stay in France. It was the highlight of our vacation. Imagine waking up every morning in an old (but modernized for comfort) stone cottage in a slowed-down, quintessential French wine village and no matter the direction you drive vineyards, vineyards, vineyards! So breathtakingly beautiful. The house is great. A big bed that is comfortable, a full bathroom with laundry facilities and a totally usable kitchen. A nice living room area for resting after a day of sight-seeing or "degustation" and wide patio area when you want to eat (or sip) outdoors. The location is perfect for exploring Burgundy with quick, easy access to Beaune. The famous wine villages of the area are just minutes away and wine tasting is as easy as walking in (except noon to 2:00 when a lot of things close). If wine is the reason for your visit you couldn't be better situated than Villers-la-Faye. The short drive to D974, the main road along the wine route, takes you to Ladoix-Serrigny where to the left is the Cote de Nuit and to the right is the Cote' de Beaune. So many great restaurants in Beaune and the surrounding villages, too. If cooking at home is something you plan on doing then don't miss the big Saturday market in Beaune. We did a lot of preparing meals at home and we were happy with the kitchen. The two features we need the most, a good coffee maker and strong wi-fi, were present. We particularly appreciated the detailed operational manual for the house that Franck and Laura left. Everything worked just as they said it would. If we had one unfulfilled desire it was for a nearby boulangerie or patisserie. The smaller villages, like Villers-la-Faye don't have them but it was easy to plan ahead and have what we wanted on hand. We travel to France every two years, settle in a bit and experience new regions on each vacation. After visiting Burgundy and Villers-la-Faye we have decided to break tradition and return to this wonderful place, if only for a week, from now on. We loved our stay at La Maison de la Vieille Vigne and give it our highest recommendation.
My husband and I spent a week at the cottage and it was one of the most restful, beautiful and interesting stays of all of our many vacations. The Village itself is charming and the surrounding countryside is spectacular. We dined on the Burgundy canal at a little restaurant filled with truckers and workmen that was phenomenal, wine tasted to excess, visited castles and tiny towns and ventured frequently to Beaune and once to Dijon. We don't often return to the same place with so much of the world to see but this cottage and region may very well lure us back. Go immediately if you can!
What a perfect, central location to enjoy all that the Burgundy region has to offer. Let's begin with the apartment itself... exquisitely appointed, comfortable and charming, it is the height of romance and mellow atmosphere. The village is so peaceful we didn't want to leave, but when we did we were minutes from amazing sights and adventures. Can't say enough about this experience.
