About Ken Kosal

Hi, I am Ken, and with my wife Michelle, we are offering this cabin for rent. We live in South Lyon and are 'up north' most weekends (we have a cabin across the lake from this rental). We have 2 college age boys and 2 English Setters.

Ken Kosal purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Ken Kosal chose Northern Michigan

Michelle and I purchased this cabin in the fall of 2013 to 'keep it in the family'. We built a cabin on the other side of the lake in 2000, however from the time I was a baby I was coming up to this 'side of the lake'. This cabin is next to other family members and was very important to us to keep it in the family. I have 2 boys that will eventually end up with this place. In the interim we have chosen to rent this so others can enjoy the area/cabin/lake as I have for 50yrs.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a very family friendly location. Lots of room to enjoy the outdoors with the large lot, fire pit, deck, lakeside bench. There is a hiking trail around the lake, accessible from the end of the road, as well as Reid Lake nature area 3miles away. The 'ball diamond' is located in the park 1 block away with 'old fashion' playground equipment, a basketball court, horseshoe pits and is the 'center' of the Biggest 4th in the North.

Great property, beautiful lake setting

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here, even though it rained much of the weekend. We brought our two dogs who really had fun in the yard and lakefront area. Would definitely come back again. Lovely, relaxing autumn retreat.

Good stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week long stay at knotty pine retreat. The house fit our family of 5 well! We took boat rides on both the paddle and row boat. Once, around the Jewel lake island! There was some sand by the fireplace that occupied our girls (5 years and under) for a while but we did visit the local beach and Lake Huron (20 minutes away) that had walk out beaches, better fit for our girls. One thing, is that we wished the dock could have been a little more kid friendly, we had to step very carefully making sure we didn't trip on any open spaces- there was a sign so we were aware. Overall, a nice neat and clean place.

Owner's Response: Renee, we are glad your family had a great stay at the Knotty Pine. It is great to be able to head over to the Big Lake (Lake Huron) for a day trip and then head back to Jewell Lake for peace and relaxation. The cabin is ideally located to take short trips to enjoy the features of NE Michigan. Again, we are glad your family enjoyed themselves! Ken & Michelle

Family Time Get-Away!

  • 5 of 5

The is the second year we stayed at Knotty-Pine. The property is gorgeous and the view of the lake is incredible. Our son loves the private beach and our dogs love swimming and hanging out on the lush lawn. The house is very clean, cute, comfortable, well stocked (even with coffee:)), and a nice welcome basket was provided with wine and snacks. Coffee in the morning on the porch and a glass of red wine at night, looking at the view, was our favorite part of our days. The lake is small and safe- just the way we like it; fishing (they provide a rowboat), kayaking (brought our own), and paddle boating (provided)! We took a few side trips to Alpena Shipwreck glass bottom tour, Pizza at Glennie Tavern, and a bike ride on the Alpena trail. Our favorite though is the day we went to Harrisville State Park beach. We love the house and are planning on returning! Thanks Ken for providing a place for our family and dogs to vacation together in a home priced within our budget! ~Liz and Jim

Absolutely beautiful cabin with all you could need for a nice vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The knotty pine retreat was more than we ever expected! The cabin was very clean and we were welcomed with a very nice gift basket full of goodies! My boyfriend and I stayed 3 nights and it was painful to leave such a gorgeous place. The yard space is wonderful, perfect for games or hanging out. The lake access is down the backyard a bit where it slopes down to your own personal little sandy area with a fire pit and plenty of seating. (Be cautious if you're not steady on your feet, a few stairs would have been nice but we had no issues)

Jewel lake is gorgeous and we fished both off the dock (older, slightly sketchy dock) and around the lake on the provided paddle boat (SO fun and a good workout!) We had a really nice fire the last night with wood provided. We wished we could have grilled but we didn't notice there was no charcoal/lighter fluid left until we went to start it up! (We could have easily went up to the store to get some but chose not too and cooked brats over the fire!)

Overall, an amazing cabin with all the necessities stocked and ready to enjoy! I highly recommend this area and this cabin for anyone's getaway!!! Just a reminder, however long you stay - it won't be long enough!
