About Ken Kosal

Hi, I am Ken, and with my wife Michelle, we are offering this cabin for rent. We live in South Lyon and are 'up north' most weekends (we have a cabin across the lake from this rental). We have 2 college age boys and 2 English Setters.

Ken Kosal purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Ken Kosal chose Northern Michigan

Michelle and I purchased this cabin in the fall of 2013 to 'keep it in the family'. We built a cabin on the other side of the lake in 2000, however from the time I was a baby I was coming up to this 'side of the lake'. This cabin is next to other family members and was very important to us to keep it in the family. I have 2 boys that will eventually end up with this place. In the interim we have chosen to rent this so others can enjoy the area/cabin/lake as I have for 50yrs.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a very family friendly location. Lots of room to enjoy the outdoors with the large lot, fire pit, deck, lakeside bench. There is a hiking trail around the lake, accessible from the end of the road, as well as Reid Lake nature area 3miles away. The 'ball diamond' is located in the park 1 block away with 'old fashion' playground equipment, a basketball court, horseshoe pits and is the 'center' of the Biggest 4th in the North.

Amazing views and memories!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful view with an amazing sunset! Cottage was cute as could be. It would be nice if there was a closer fire pit especially when you have snowmagedon in April! I would definitely return. The gift basket was very thoughtful thank you!

Owner's Response: Juliann, we are glad you had a great time. You have to love Michigan weather, the 8 plus inches of snow you received was a shocker I am sure. I would agree using the fire pit with snow is not feasible, it's best used by the lake for summer sunsets! We look forward to hosting you again! Enjoy your summer, Ken & Michelle

what can I say it was more than expected in every way the place was stuffed with every thing one would need . if I would do one thing is to move the fire ring up. I have guys that like to talk late in to the night . out respect for your dad they did not have their gab time around the camp fire. on the good side I got all the fire wood they came with !

Owner's Response: John, Glad you guys enjoyed yourself and had opportunity on some deer. You should have had your gab sessions by the fire pit, it happens all summer long! It was a pleasure hosting you guys and we look forward to you coming back next fall for another bow camp. Regards, Ken & Michelle

Amazing Again!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second summer my son and I spent our vacation at the Knotty Pine Retreat. We had such a fabulous time last year we had to visit again. We have such a great time swimming, fishing, playing in the large yard and just relaxing. The quiet allows time for me to sit and read a book outside while my son keeps himself occupied playing. Ken and Michelle think of everything and are exceptional hosts. I cannot begin to compliment them on the cleanliness of the cottage or mention everything they provide. We hope to return next year for another fantastic family vacation!

This rental was perfect for our family's first cottage vacation. The rental was exactly as described. My dog loved swimming. Also Ken and Michelle were very welcoming and accommodating.

Beautiful Lakeside Retreat for Quiet and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Knotty Pine Retreat for the week of the 4th of July and had such a wonderful time. Barton City hosts a great small town parade with celebration and BBQ in the park, and a really good fireworks show at dusk over the lake. The lake is beautiful with clean sandy bottom and was great for swimming. We had the most fun in taking the paddle boat for daily trips over to the Huron National Park swimming/beach area, which is only a few hundred yards up the lakeshore. In addition, since most of the lakeshore is undeveloped National Park, it was quiet with very little traffic. There are plenty of good sized pan-fish in the lake and the kids and my husband caught our dinner from the dock one evening which was fun for all. Our three young kids had plenty of outdoor space to run in the grassy back yard, and there was plenty of sand to dig in down by the lake. The general store was two short blocks away and we enjoyed regular walks/bike rides to grab an ice cream cone.

The cottage is very cute and well kept and perfectly met our needs. It was well stocked, from the basics for cooking in kitchen to the extra linens in the bathroom and bedrooms. Ken and Michelle were such welcoming hosts. Thank you so much and we hope to visit again!!

Owner's Response: Chantel, I am glad to hear you and your family had a great time over the 4th. I agree with you, the parade/park/fireworks are perfect for a small town 4th, in fact it's referred to as the "Biggest Little 4th in the North". I am glad to hear your kids enjoyed playing by the lake and in the front yard. The Knotty Pine Retreat has had it's fair share of siblings & cousins playing over the past 50 years (there were 11 kids every 4th when I was growing up). And the 4th would not be the 4th without trips to the BC General Store for ice cream (you have to try their sticky buns as well). Again, we enjoyed hosting you and your family and look forward to hosting you in the future!. Ken & Michelle
