LAKE BUEL 4 Bedroom, 2 Full Bath Cottage with 100 ft of lakefront on Lake Buel, the BEST lake in the Berkshires. Swim, kayak, or fish to your heart's content. The water is WARM. Living/dining area with panoramic water views. Take your meals on the screened-in porch overlooking the lake. The sun shines on this home from sunrise to sunset. Watch glorious sunsets over the mountains sitting in a kayak in the middle of the lake.
Play games or just sit and relax on almost 2 acres. Prepare meals in the kitchen overlooking our field and fruit trees.
Tired of the lake?
How about theatre, music or dance a short drive away?
Visit Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow or take in Shakespeare or one of the hundreds of other performances in the area.
Need some civilization? Great Barrington, named by Smithsonian Magazine the #1 (that's right, #1) small town in America, is a few minutes away. There you will find fine restaurants, small cafes, and everything in between. There are clothing stores, boutiques, gift shops, the finest groceries and farmers' markets. Other surrounding towns (Stockbridge, Lenox, Sheffield) each have their own special charm. Lots of antiquing, art galleries, museums, botanical gardens, a winery and more.
The Appalachian Trail is 1 mile from your front door. There are scores of hiking trails nearby ranging from flat terrain to strenuous. Hike to a lake and go for a swim or take in glorious mountain vistas.
And now, for the best single feature of your stay in the Berkshires.....the outdoor shower! Shower while observing the activity on the lake or, at night, while gazing up at the stars.
We have kayaks and floating devices. You can float tied up to the dock and read or sunbathe. Look for the Bald Eagles living directly across the lake from you. If you come at the right time, you'll enjoy picking fruit from our trees.
We are surrounded by forests, streams, farmland and fields. Rediscover the joy of 'going for a ride' as you motor down our lightly traveled, meandering roads, stopping to take a photo or buy corn picked an hour earlier.
We have guidebooks, a gas grill, lawn chairs, and a manual with important phone numbers and lots of suggestions.
Our 'Casita' in the Berkshires oozes serenity. Arriving there I feel I've just gone through a time-space warp. The outside world is gone, air is pure, bullfrogs croak, eagles fly, fireflies twinkle, countless stars sparkle, the full moon shines in my bedroom window, even rainy days have a special feeling.
And if I get tired of serenity, I can choose from among thousands of activities as close as a mile away. Music, art, swimming, theatre, shopping, walking, hiking, golfing, camping, fishing, museums, kayaking, biking, eating, farm stands, horseback riding, riding around aimlessly.....I can do pretty much whatever I imagine I might wish to do. And when I tire of my activity, serenity is only a few minutes away.
The cottage was exactly as described and neatly prepared for visitors. The kitchen was quite small, but well equipped with two eating areas(one inside and one on the porch). The bathrooms were both small, but very serviceable and the outdoor shower a treat. The four bedrooms could sleep 10 total and were complete with pillows and blankets. The washer/dryer, located in one bedroom, worked well. The common room was very comfortable for hot or cold weather. The dock and patio area was excellent, but especially on Lake Buel's east side a sandy beach or easy walk in access to the pond is not possible. Lake Buel has wonderfully silky water, but is a shallow lake with heavy weed growth as seen in many Berkshire ponds. A machine "weeds" the lake weekly, but this is clearly a never ending struggle. Fabulous close proximity to many of the Berkshire's outdoor and cultural attractions. A very comfortable well equipped cottage in a great location.
We cherished every moment of our stay in this lovely home on Lake Buel. We were all very comfortable, slept very well, went kayaking every day, swam in the lake...etc.
The outdoor shower was just perfect! Whether grilling or just preparing dinner in the kitchen, we loved eating meals on the back porch. This is a true gem in the Berkshires and we look forward to returning as soon as possible!
I rented this home last minute to get away for the weekend to spend time with my daughter. Being very familiar with the Berkshires as a ski destination, I was very eager to experience the Great Barrington and surrounding area in the Fall on a lake. This home is the perfect location: ten minutes to GB, fifteen to Stockbridge for dinner at the Red Lion. The owner was extremely accommodating: having a two person kayak readily available last minute. The home is also exactly as advertised: quaint; comfortable; and clean. The dock on (and deck overlooking) the lake make for easy lake access and great place for morning coffee.
