Cozy Cottage over looking the lake
The property owner was less than a 1/2 a mile away. Picking up the key was convenient. The Cottage was beautiful. She left a booklet of recommended restaurants, activities and local places to visit. The view of Seneca lake was beautiful to see every day from the bedroom and gorgeous deck. A squirrel would visit daily on the deck. Super cute. I brought my dog who is a Cairn Terrier 12 lbs. He did enjoy the area. I would highly recommend this place to my friends.
Beautiful sunsets from the balcony; great location for winery visits and hiking as well as boating on Seneca Lake. Very much enjoyed our stay. If horseback riding is of interest, Painted Bar is a great stable for trail rides in the Finger Lakes National Forest. Bought wine at Shalestone and Silver Threads; dinner at Stonecat. Would definitely visit again.
Our week at this cottage was so relaxing and comfortable. It was close to wineries and restaurants and still private and quiet. We had a great time and hope to come back next year.
Cozy Cottage on the Lake, Wine, Cheese, Dining & Waterfalls
The location of the cottage was perfect for what we were in the Finger Lakes to do-- visit wineries, dine and hike! We loved driving back to the cottage through the vineyards, spending time on the deck every morning overlooking Seneca Lake coffee in hand, and admiring all the details of the cozy cottage.
The highlight of the trip was The Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen, easy hike that was just incredibly stunning. We explored a ton of wineries on the east side of Seneca Lake and the west side of Cayuga Lake--so impressed with the Wine in the Finger Lakes! Dining is fantastic in the area, I would recommend Dano's, Stonecat and Hazelnut Kitchen (my fave). On our way out of town we stopped at Muranda Cheese Farm-don't miss this-gorgeous barn with 14 different cheeses!!!
Kate was a great & friendly host. When we went to check out her winery (Shalestone) we met her delightful daughter for a fun tasting! Great wine too!
Thank you for sharing your cottage with us! We had a perfect weekend getaway!

Great Lakeside Place in Wine Country
We spent a long weekend at the Bird's Nest in mid-October. The weather ranged from warm and sunny to freezing cold and windy, and the place was comfortable and cozy throughout. A recent storm washed away the steps down to the beach by the lake, but you can still access it by walking around the long way until the steps are repaired. The place is everything a couple needs - the deck has a great view, the kitchen has all the essentials, and the bed is comfortable. One thing to know is that the cottage is near the end of a dirt/gravel road, and especially in wet weather, you'd be better off having a 4WD vehicle. The location is perfect - you're close to all the great wineries, breweries and distilleries along Lake Seneca and close to Watkins Glen. We'd definitely stay again.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Just want to make clear about the road condition. The road is usually very well maintained, but after the August flood our road association decided not to resurface it until all the heavy machinery, making repairs to the damaged culverts, was finished driving up and down it.
We expect it to be back to a smooth, well surfaced road by the end of the month. (October)
