Enjoy an easy inexpensive weekend getaway in this rustic mountain cabin just an hour and a half from LA, halfway between the I-5 at the Grapevine and Santa Maria on the coast. Located on a cul-de-sac in Pine Mountain Club, a private community in the Los Padres National Forest. 35 minutes from Pyramid Lake and 45 minutes from Magic Mountain.
Available for rent any time. $135/night, 2 night minimum. 3 night minimum at $160/night on holiday weekends. 3rd night free with rentals Monday through Thursday, except during holiday weeks. Weekday prices may be slightly higher over the holidays.
My cabin is located on two lots, total 2/3 acre, and backs up to a green belt, so it feels very private even though there are other cabins nearby. All knotty pine interior with lodge-like furnishings. Two large bedrooms (one with queen bed, one with full bed and a twin bed); 2 extra twin mattresses in walk-in closet; portable crib and high chair; one bathroom with combination tub/shower; stone fireplace; large deck overlooking wooded area. Large well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful stained glass window in living room with scene of local hills. Three TVs; DVD, VCR and laser disc players with over 200 movies, plus books, board games and puzzles. Dual-pane windows for comfort summer and winter. Wifi internet connection and phone for domestic calls.
Rental includes access to beautiful mountain golf course; swimming pool in summer months; stable with trail rides; catch-and-release fishing in Fern Lake, a 15 minute walk away; tennis courts; basketball and volleyball court; clubhouse with video game room, restaurant, free wifi and lounge with live music on weekends. Village business area has restaurants, market, laundromat, post office; gift shops, internet cafe plus seasonal festivals and fairs. Hiking, sledding and cross country skiing on Mount Pinos (8800') 25 minutes away. And just across the street from the cabin is a lovely wooded area with pathways leading to the village, and rustic tables under the trees - an easy woodsy walk without getting in the car, especially nice for little kids.
In the winter I provide sleds, and you are welcome to use the extra boots and gloves for adults and kids that I keep at the cabin.
This is a HOUSEKEEPING CABIN - the rates are low because guests must provide their own sheets, towels and firewood and must clean the cabin in readiness for the next guests before leaving. Cleaning supplies are provided; cleaning service and/or linens can be provided at an additional cost. There is no smoking in the cabin. Refundable $200 cleaning/security deposit required to hold reservation; deposit will be returned in full once the cabin has been checked and found clean and undamaged. Payment can be made via credit card through the VRBO site, or by personal check (if received in time to clear before rental date).
Roads are very well maintained by Pine Mountain Club but weather can change quickly in the mountains so be prepared with 4-wheel drive or chains in winter. There is now Verizon cell phone service in PMC and I provide a house phone for domestic calls.
Please look under 'Owner Info' to see additional reviews that I've copied from guests' emails and guest book entries, and contact me with any questions about my cabin or Pine Mountain Club.

I retired from Walt Disney Studios in 2007. Now I love to travel; I do home exchanges all over the world so I know how to make a home comfortable for a guest. I grew up in upstate NY, went to college in Ohio and lived for a time in Chicago, so I'm used to snowy winters and I actually miss them! I love coming to the mountains for the change of seasons, hiking and x-country skiing.
Toni Devereaux purchased this cabin in 1985
My ex-husband and I bought this cabin in 1985. We wanted a retreat where he could golf and I could x-country ski and we could enjoy nature with our family. We had thought of looking in Big Bear, east of LA, but a friend told us about Pine Mountain Club which is so much closer and quieter. It's never crowded, even on holidays, and has a real small town feel, plus it's only 90 minutes from my home in Pasadena.
When I'm in my cabin I feel like I'm in another world. It's absolutely quiet on the cul-de-sac. You can't see other cabins from the back deck which looks out onto green space with birds, squirrels and the occasional deer. The interior is all knotty pine, even the ceilings, and there's a big stone fireplace. Starting right across from the cabin a neighbor has built a series of rock-lined paths through the woods, with little tables and seats made from tree stumps; it's just a 10 minute walk to the village through the 'enchanted forest.' I love to hike and x-country ski on Mt. Pinos, and enjoy the live music, swimming and tennis at the clubhouse. For home entertainment, I have accumulated a library of over 200 movies on dvd, laser disc and tape. I enjoy sharing my cabin with guests and I use it myself as often as I can; a weekend at the cabin feels like a real vacation.
I've been here before in a different chapter of my life and I didn't know how I would feel being back here. It was lovely! A really special place - I hope to have more memories here.
Our stay in your cabin was nothing short of magical.
Thank you so much for opening your cabin to our family and allowing us to stay there. You truly thought of everything a family could need to make their stay enjoyable. From the sleds, gloves, boots, and comforts of home throughout your cabin, to the thoughtfully placed instructions and labels and guidebooks. Dvd's, games, cards, the list is endless. I actually overpacked for this trip. You even had spices in the cabinet and a cast iron pan. I love cast iron! I did not expect to find one this far from home.
I will be telling friends and family about your cabin and hope to have the money to stay again some time.
The kids loved walking the creek that is literally in your back yard, and after the snow came they couldn't get in enough sledding.
Our dogs were equally welcomed with a doggy dish and bowl for food and water with a little mat and even a chew toy with some balls.
The upstairs room for the kids was great with sime toys to keeps them entertained. My 3 year old quickly made herself at home.
We all felt so at home none of us wanted to leave. Thank you so much we can't wait to come back.
The Clark Family
Loved our stay at the cabin. The owner was very quick to answer me with the few questions I had. The trails are wonderful.
Had a good time at Toni's cabin. Felt secluded, yet walking distance via nice private trials to village center. I liked the view from the back deck, where you overlook the riparian area and forest. Saw no lights at night. Good for star gazing, though there are a lot of trees around.
We loved our stay in this property! The cabin is cozy and very peaceful, making for a very relaxing holiday. The kitchen is fully equipped and we cooked a few family meals. The decks are large and relaxing. We were able to drive down to the LA area two days and the drive is easy, with access to Hwy 5 only 20 or so minutes away. The woods around the cabin are very beautiful. Toni is a wonderful hostess and will make sure every is as noted.
It was a cozy, comfy and beautiful cabin. The night sky view from the deck was stunning. Everything was well organized and instructions and map and things to do around the area were easy to follow. If you are looking for a secluded romantic getaway, this might be the cabin for you!
Birdwatching - bird feeder with supplies - birds put on quite a show on the deck. Boating on Pyramid Lake 35 minutes away. Telescope for viewing the clear night sky away from city lights.
