Large, beautiful property on the beach
The house is special! We loved the pool, the open kitchen and walking out onto an incredibly beautiful beach with coffee in the morning and a cocktail at sunset. The beach is long in both directions, we never saw a sole felt like we were alone out there. You are far down on the tip of the peninsula, enough so when on the beach at sunset you can see it set both east and west. You look out to the mainland. The property is very well taken care of, even though you are in nature its well manicured and beautiful. You will feel very at home. Bring lots of bug spray and ant spray and you will be in heaven. There are great adventures in short car rides if you are up for it. The area is incredible for wild life, waterfalls, and nature seeking.
Honeymooning in Casa Playa
Amazing! Great location, lovely staff, beautiful home, extremely friendly, good surf, incredible wildlife. We will definitely be back with friends and family!
Excellent location, fully equipped villa, in unspoiled part of the Costa Rica
We stayed at the Casa Sombrero for 1 week with our 2 kids. It actually looked better in reality than on the pictures!
The amenities of the house, especially the kitchen, are high standard. The pool was surprisingly big and private.
The house is surrounded by local 'pets', such as macaws, butterflies, giant toads, and hermit crabs which create an unique atmosphere.
A 4x4 is definitely needed to get there because there are no shops around.
We would love to come back here some day.
We loved our stay at Boca Sombrero!
We spent five days at Boca Sombrero and loved every minute of our stay. The beauty of the area is phenomenal. Boca Sombrero is right on one of the nicest stretches of beach in the area (unlike much of the area, it's not rocky, except at low tide), it is about 1 mile from primary rainforest, and the whole region is very undeveloped and untouristed. The unit we stayed in (Playa Sombrero) was perfect for our family of six, and we made great use of the pool (which was considerably larger than I expected from the pictures). The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and we used it every day. There was plenty to do every day and our kids (ages 8-14) never got bored. We surfed every day at a great break about 5 minutes walk down the beach (Eddie had a very good selection of short and long boards for rent, all in good condition). Monica was fantastic at helping us arrange activities, and everyone she recommended was top notch. We went horseback riding, waterfall rappelling, zip-lining and hiking in the rain forest. The wild life was also spectacular. We saw 20-30 Scarlet Macaws on the property alone every day, as well as Toucans, all 4 species of monkey in Costa Rica, Cayman (in the creek on the edge of the property), snakes and several other types of animals. Lastly, they cooked dinners for us most nights and Grace's cooking was outstanding. I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience and we would definitely go back.
Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 4000-5000 vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
