Beautiful 800 sq/ft vacation house on the east shore, Hawaii located on our farm where we live. Very private custom artistic home with ocean view (1000 ft from the ocean), surrounded by lush tropical wilderness. This house was designed to be an exquisite suite for 2 people. We do have a queen hide-a-bed downstairs and some stored single beds, so larger group can be accommodated.
Newly built with king size bed, queen hide-a-bed, kitchen, washer, roof deck, broadband internet, and well water.
We have snorkeling gear and body boards.
All of our neighbors have 3 or more acres and enjoy the quiet and privacy of an old Hawaii country lifestyle. This is the perfect place for relaxing walks along the beach road or sitting on the sea shore and watching the ocean. 10 minutes to Kapoho snorkeling bay, 15 minutes to the warm thermal ponds and Pohoiki bay. 15 minutes to Pahoa town dining, and 45 minutes to Volcano National Park.
This rental offers a modern hand crafted home that is surrounded by the natural beauty and serenity of old Hawaii.
The little house was exactly as described. It is the perfect retreat for two people. We had everything we needed (although a couple more hand towels would be nice) and were very comfortable. The location is a bit remote (we wanted that) and we had a lot of rain our first couple of days so the dirt roads were full of pot holes - which made the drive to the house a little challenging. We loved exploring this end of the island. Hiking is amazing and the warm pools we found were better than a spa! For a fun breakfast, I recommend Tin Shack Bakery in Pahoa. Excellent coffee and food and a fun eclectic crowd.
I loved the layout of the house with the partial upper floor as a sort of loft. Robert had a ladder on balcony allowing easy access to the flat part of the roof (there's a railing). We went up there to look at stars and watch the sunrise. We didn't have any problems with the shower going cold -- it stayed hot even late at night. This is a great place if you're looking for something a little rustic and outdoorsy; because the house runs on solar power, there's no oven or microwave or toaster, so plan on doing all your food prep on gas burners. A few small lizards made it inside, but I didn't care -- I figured they'd eat the bugs. There's no dryer, so we used the wash machine in the morning and let our clothes air dry all day. Robert left a plate full of fresh papaya from the trees in the yard on the table. His house is very close, but there's a lot of foliage between the two buildings, so it feels private enough. Also, make sure to rent a car that can handle a very rocky, bumpy road up to the house.
The owner of this property embodies the spirit of true aloha!
The place is amazing. It felt as if we were not even off the grid when we wanted to be inside with all of our electronics or I had to work, but when we left we were in a jungle paradise. Every night we fell asleep to the frogs chirping, rain and woke up to sun. I highly recommend people stay with Robert and take advantage of living like a true Hawaiian. Robert was available to answer any questions and helped us all along the way. I could not have asked for better. I came to the island with absolutely no plans and ended up seeing everything any tourist could ask for with the help of locals. My expectations were exceeded.
This is my second stay in this area, but it was not as smooth as my first. The first thing that was not correctly handled is providing arrival info. We did not get this until late night before our arrival and only AFTER I requested it. This was different than my previous experience, when I got arrival information well in advance, and without me having to ask. Unnecessary stress was created because of this. The house is very interesting and really off the grid. We came prepare with food AND drinking water, so we did not have the issues other reviewers experienced with lack of drinking water. It is important to understand the amenities (if you care about this). The shower is non-adjustable. You can set a temperature (from outside) but you cannot adjust it during the shower. Moreover, while taking the shower (even short showers) the temperature will drop to cold, and after a while will get back again (I assume it has something to do with the solar-powered device that heats the water not having enough power). The upstairs bathroom had only cold water for our entire stay. The kitchen is not that well equipped (I only used the kettle to boil water and a pan to make eggs once). If you like to cook, you will need to buy everything (there are no spices or any staples, like oil, etc.). There are no paper towels. I assume the owner would have probably restocked if asked, but I also bought toilet paper (the one in the house was gone by day 2). In my previous stay, extra supplies were already in the house, so there was no need to ask. I also remember the ad saying that bicycles were available, but did not see any when we got there. Other reviewers commented on the lack of fans, but we did not have an issue with that; the air circulated quite nicely in the house, and all the windows had screens (for those worrying about dengue). I would recommend this vacation rental, but, as other reviewers pointed out, do not to assume any extras and make sure you come prepared with any items that you like having around for your daily routine.
