About Kai Ohuchi

Troy and Cecilia were born and raised in Anchorage Alaska, however Hawaii is their second home. They have visited and vacationed in Hawaii for over 40 years and have finally found the perfect location and realized a life long dream of having a second residence there. Kona is the perfect getaway from the long cold Alaska winters: many times a 100 degree difference for only a 5 hour non stop flight makes it very appealing.

Kamilo has all the benefits Hawaii has to offer in one resort. We were adamant to have a view from our residence and were lucky enough to get one of the few units with a full unobstructed view of the golf course from our private lanai. Having the beach less than a ½ mile away is the other key to the location of our unit, 4 miles of white sand beach is a blessing to have just a short walk or golf cart ride away. Combine the view, the beach, a 2 acre recreational area with 2 swimming pools and a state of the art workout facility and you have a complete package with something for everyone.

Kamilo has restaurants, shopping and a grocery store within a mile of the unit so everything you want and need is at your fingertips.

What makes this townhome unique

Being built in 2013 makes it a newer unit with new and upgraded amenities and appliances. Everything is top shelf and upgraded from the appliances to the ceiling treatments to accent the vaulted ceilings, wall coverings and new window treatments. The pocket doors open the living area to the lanai making it a pleasurable indoor / outdoor environment to enjoy the cool tropical breeze and golf course vistas. The new construction is state of the art with one common wall that is sound protected you would think it is a single family house. We have furnished the home with amenities equal to the level of quality of our upscale home, to make it comfortable, pleasurable and relaxing. Included in the rental is the use of the garage, bicycles, boogie boards, beach chairs, and beach toys /towels etc.. Enjoy your vacation!

Great vacation rental on the Kohala coast

We have stayed in this property with our two teenaged children twice. Obviously we love it as we keep coming back. Beautifully appointed, great location, plenty of room giving everyone the own bedroom and bathroom. We love the the Big Island and always stay in the Mauna Lani area. Having the beach club access is a great feature but we also drive around to other local beaches and this condo is very well located for that. Plenty of beach chairs, a cooler, umbrella, and beach towels. Everything you need for a relaxing stay in paradise! The property managers Kai and Burt are very responsive and accommodating.

Beautiful place to stay on a beautiful island

Great property - plenty of room for our family of 5 to spread out. Kitchen was amazing and had EVERYTHING you could need, more than any other place we have stayed. Very comfortable beds, plenty of seating through out the house and having a washer/dryer was such a nice bonus!

Tons of chairs and umbrellas for exploring beaches other than the beach club - speaking of the beach club...lovely beach with plenty of chairs and great snorkeling - even saw turtles! Paddle boards and snorkeling gear is available to rent and the restaurant was really good.

We rented a golf cart which was great for exploring the resort and fun for the kids.

The management folks were great and very accommodating and always quick to respond.

Can't wait to go back!

The house was amazing and very comfortable. The community and amenities were fantastic!

We very much enjoyed the home, community and proximity to island fun.

The kitchen was well appointed, the linens were luxurious and plentiful, and the back yard sitting area was our favorite place to be.

With any luck we will be back to the same house next year.

Great for two families...

I have stayed at many many resort complexes on the Kohala Coast from Halii Kai to Kolea and many many more. There are a few standout features of this particular unit, the first is that it essentially has two master bedrooms, while one is nicer then then other for sure the second bedroom is large with a king bed and it's own bathroom. So when planning a trip with two couples or families this unit is ideal. The next standout feature is this unit is very very well equipped with high end cuttlery and pots and pans, there is nothing that you would need that is not provided. This unit is immaculately maintained and has higher end furniture and decorations. This unit also four high end flat screen TVs to include a very nice one in the living room. The managers of the unit were absolutely responsive to questions and concerns, this unit is well managed. Also this unit is one floor with no one above or below, the shared wall was not an issue as we did not hear our neighbors at all. There is a private little yard in the back that overlooks a great golf course view, there is a natural barrier between you and your neighbor in the back so your privacy is very well maintained. Even the out door furniture was higher end and confortable. One feature that puts Mauna Lani above Waikoloa Beach Resort is access to the private beach and beach club, we went almost every day, rented canoes and kayaks we had a blast. I think for what you get this unit is not cheap but it's reasonably priced and was good value, we hope to stay again soon.

Great Time

The townhome is lovely. It is not a stand-alone house. Luckily, when we went, no one was in the next house, so we had a quiet stay. Ka Milo itself is quiet (as we like it). Only a few younger children (we have teens, so we wanted a more adult feel).

The townhome has an open plan with a handsome and well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are large, as are the baths (the master bath is enormous). The linens are comfortable. The only thing that needs updating (and this is an extremely minor comment) is the couch - the buttons are coming off with wear.

You must have a car if you stay here, of course. (Unless you plan to simply hang out at the very pretty pools that are in Ka Milo or use the golf cart to get down to the resort/ocean.) This side of the island is very sunny and rocky - it is not "tropical." The concierge at the hotel recommend a great dive shop associated with the hotel (I think our dive master was "Spike" or "Sting" - great guy) and a fabulous horse-back riding trip at Paniolo Adventures. We also did a night dive to see manta rays out near the Kona airport.

From Ka Milo, it is about an hour and a half to the other side of the island Hana. If you go to Hana, we highly recommend Ocean for sushi and the botanical gardens - especially if you go close to closing time when it is quiet. It is about an 45-60 minutes or so to the north side of the island where there are some great hikes/waterfalls/horseback riding.

My 16-year old daughter loved the golf cart - we used it a couple of times to see the Hawaiian petroglyph field down by the ocean.
