Palauna Hale is a five bedroom five and one half bath custom home centrally located in the quaint town of Kailua-Kona. The house sits on six acres of agricultural land in the private expansive subdivision of Ho'omalu Estates (the subdivision is gated as well as the property).

The 4200 square foot home features sweeping views of the mountain, ocean, and lush tropical gardens. Relax and grill on the open lanais or take a swim in the 75 foot saline swimming pool while watching a beautiful Hawaiian sunset over the ocean.

The Palauna Hale is the perfect home for gathering and entertaining. A large family or group of friends will appreciate the space and privacy our home has to offer. Directly located off of the pool lanai are two beautiful master suites with Jacuzzi tubs, walk-in closets and sunset views. Additionally, there are three spacious bedrooms suites located on the mountain side of the house, each with private entrances off of the interior courtyard.

Located minutes from the best snorkeling beach on the island, a 36-hole world-class golf course, Hawaii's historic Kealakekua Bay and Keauhou Shopping Center where you can find gourmet coffee shops, fine dining and casual restaurants, a supermarket, movie theater and more.

Relaxing, beautiful, well appointed home with spectacular views!

We had a wonderful family vacation in this home. We had 10 adults, each room has a private bathroom and closet! Each room has it's own AC for temp control plus fans. The pool, yard, views, and sunsets are all spectacular. The home is well appointed, with lovely decor throughout! Beds are comfortable with plenty of bath towels and beach towels. Everything was clean... No problem with bugs - normal occasional cockroach or spider but that is expected in Hawaii! We are a cooking family with a chef-daughter. The kitchen is fairly well stocked but not really for a chef so we may bring a few items if we come back! The bbq's did not work properly and the ice maker is broken. The owner is extremely responsive, friendly and helpful - in all fairness, we didn't ask for help with the bbq but alerted him to the fact that it needs replacing. We purchased big bags of ice at Costco which was not a problem. Everyone loved the location of this home! It's very private- you really can't even see another home from the yard... Just lush landscape and the ocean!

This is by far our best VRBO experience ever!

A bonus - a few beach items in garage... Mats, umbrella, rafts etc! Zac brought us a rice cooker upon request which was very appreciated! Also, we just love that there are two master suites!!!

Perfect for a family get-together!

This home is conveniently located to the main highway, beaches, and town of Kona. There are ocean views, tropical landscaping, and the space feels secluded from neighbors even though the house is within a subdivision off the main road. The home itself is clean, well-stocked and spacious. There is plenty of parking in the driveway. As indicated in the property description, 3 of the 5 rooms are separated by a courtyard from the main house and allows for people to easily have separate space. Each room has its own bath + temperature control and there is a washer/dryer. The house accommodated all ages in our group- from toddler to teens to adults. The owner was very responsive to our questions and answered emails quickly. The infinity pool is huge and perfect for kids and their play with 3 different shallow ends. Those with very small children/toddlers should be aware that the pool is fully open to the patio and backyard without a gate. There are 2 family-friendly beaches within walking distance and lots of restaurants and shopping located within a short drive. We will definitely return and highly recommend this for others seeking a beautiful home base for their Hawaiian vacation.

Outstanding Property

Our stay was a small family gathering of adults and adult children, 5 couples in total. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Very nice layout with very private rooms/suites, each with it's own bathroom. Nice large gathering spaces (kitchen, family/living room, lanai, pool) and the house itself was located so that it is very private.

The home was very clean and as advertised. The twin beds indicated are very large for twins. It was close to White Sands beach and a short drive back into town - really very convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. I highly recommend it for a gathering of couples.

FYI - you will want to take bar soap, shampoo and laundry detergent as it was not provided - the quality of the house and its location more than offset this inconvenience.

Hawaii getaway

This is an amazing property with five large bedrooms and bathrooms, a big kitchen and living room. It was very clean and the most well stocked kitchen I have seen in any rental. The pool was huge and made for great relaxation. The location is great, just a few minutes south of downtown Kona, close the beach and close to Costco. I would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful property and loveyly house and pool

We very much enjoyed our stay and loved the house and pool. However, there were a few items that made it so I could only give our stay 4 stars.

When we arrived, we noticed the WiFi did not work, the hot tub in one master bath did not work, the icemaker did not work and that the house needed a little TLC. The property manager was quick to response and did get the wifi working but not until after the weekend (a few days before we had to depart). The ice maker never worked and the manager admitted the hot tub motor needed to be replaced. Also, the lighting in the 3 bedrooms outside the house was very poor, especially in the bathrooms. The only rooms that had TV were in the main house. The other 3 bedrooms did not. Not sure it that is important to everyone, but we like to see the news so that was annoying.

The only other thing was the fact that they do not spray for bugs. One palm tree near the pool must have had at least 20 wasp nests in it and we saw centipedes. cockroaches and garden spiders on many of the bushes. Fortunately the wasps were not very aggressive and we learned to watch for the centipedes. Just something I would rather not have to deal with.

We did love the pool, it was beautiful and an absolutely gorgeous view. The rooms were well appointed and the house was decorated very nicely.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay and feedback on our house. We always read our reviews carefully and address issues immediately to provide the best possible experience for our guests. That being said there are occasionally situations that come up during a stay that are beyond our control. We are committed to fixing issues or taking care of guest requests as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. We would like to respond to your feedback on the WiFi, lighting and pest control. Regarding the WiFi: Our local cable company, Time Warner Cable turned off the modem to the house with no explanation as to why the mistake was made. It took four hours of me on the phone and a service representative 3 days (weekend) to come out to the house and fix the problem. I was at the house within minutes after the phone call and followed up several times with TWC to see if they could get a rep out sooner. Relying on vendors and service reps can be frustrating especially if its over a weekend and it was unfortunate that you were without WiFi in the house for part of their stay. We have never had this happen before and do not foresee it happening in the future. Lighting: The lighting through out the house is on a medium scale of brightness including the bathrooms. Some people like it some people don't. Most people appreciate it as it adds to the tranquility of the home as opposed to high voltage bright lights. Pest Control: The bugs are a constant battle for us in the tropics. We do have a local professional pest control company that sprays the houses once a month to keep the bugs out. We are on a 7 1/2 acre country property and there are bugs outside that you may come across. Most of our guests would like to vacation in a house that is not overly sprayed with poison and we always try to maintain a balance while accommodating special requests from individual guests. Our pest control company is always on call to come out between scheduled service and take care of any special needs/requests. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the house, the bedrooms & pool and hope your stay was a memorable time with family and friends. Much Aloha, Zac Smith

Amazing and private paradise

We rented this house and the twin house next door for a family gathering and wedding. The house was much more spacious than the photos suggested (even though it looks big in the photos). This allowed people to break off and get some privacy even though they are in a house with nine other people. The living room/dining area was comfortable even when everyone was gathered in there for meals. The pool was every bit as good as the photos suggest. It was big enough that when kids were going crazy on one end of the pool you could still have a quiet conversation on the other end away from the madness. It was also nice that these houses were set back away from Ali'i Drive and the other houses, which made it a very private setting. It was a great set up for a family vacation and I'd love to go back. The only thing that may concern some visitors is that three of the bedrooms open to a gated courtyard and are not attached to the main part of the house. The walkways linking those rooms to the "main house" are covered (if it is raining). But, parents of small children may not be comfortable putting their kids in a room that opens to the outside. We just had the little kids share rooms with parents to get around that. Everybody was fine with that workaround because everything else was so great.

The house is about a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Kailua which has tons of restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores. White Sands beach is about a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. We frequented both and loved the convenience.

I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat for any large groups including families or multiple families or groups of couples. It is set up to be flexible and accommodating enough for almost any kind of visitor.
