BRIEF DESCRIPTION: West of West Lodge is a great base camp for exploring the Yellowstone area. It’s just 8 miles to the park entrance, is surrounded by national forest trails for hiking, mountain biking, and snow mobiling and it’s a short drive to a quiet cove on Hebgen Lake. With 2,400 square feet of living space, an open floor plan on the main level, and an additional family room upstairs, it’s a comfortable home for a large group.
BEDROOMS AND BATHS: The lodge has four bedrooms and three baths. The main level has one bedroom with a queen size bed. There is a full bath with a large walk-in shower adjacent to this bedroom and both are wheel chair accessible. The upper level has three bedrooms, one with a king size bed, one with a queen and the third with two twins. The king bedroom has an en suite full bath with tub/shower combination. The other two bedrooms share a full bath, also with a tub/shower combo. For a bit of extra sleeping space, the upstairs tv room has a fold out queen sofa bed. All bedrooms have iPod docks.
KITCHEN: This is a great kitchen for a crowd as it opens to the bar, the dining area, and the living room. It’s equipped with all stainless appliances, a smooth top electric range, tons of serving and picnic ware, and lots of small appliance extras like a crock pot, electric mixer and blender.
DINING AREA: The large dining table seats ten comfortably and the bar accommodates another three. There’s also plenty of seating for enjoying outdoor meals out on the covered porch.
LIVING ROOM: The cozy living room has a gas fireplace, a flat screen HD TV with satellite service, an iPod dock and comfy leather seating. Double French doors open to the covered porch with additional seating for cocktail hour!
FAMILY ROOM: The upper level has a family room where your crew can do puzzles, play games or watch TV and movies after a day of exploring.
SETTING, ACREAGE, AND VIEWS: West of West Lodge is in a woodsy vacation home neighborhood about 8 miles from West Yellowstone, which is the West entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It sits on one half acre and enjoys incredible views of Lionhead Mountain and other peaks along the Continental Divide. You’re likely to see elk, moose and maybe even a bear in this beautiful wild area!
OUTDOOR AMENITIES: Decks on three sides of the house provide room for enjoying coffee in the morning sunshine and then sunset over the mountains. Once a little lawn area grows in, you can host a Rocky Mountain rough terrain bocci tournament off the South deck.
ACTIVITIES NEARBY: In winter, you can snowmobile right from the house and get onto hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails. If you prefer Nordic skiing, West Yellowstone’s Rendezvous Trails are a short drive away and you can explore Yellowstone Park by snowcoach. In summer, there’s hiking and mountain biking right out the door, fishing on blue ribbon streams, boating on Hebgen Lake and of course – day trips into Yellowstone Park. For an especially memorable experience in the park, book a specialized private tour with our sister company, Greater Yellowstone Guides.
CLOSEST TOWN AND AIRPORT: You are 8 miles from the town of West Yellowstone, 90 miles from Bozeman’s Gallatin Field Airport and 110 miles from Idaho Falls, Idaho.
West of West was perfect for a family group consisting of two parents, two children and two grandchildren. The lodge was beautifully laid out and equipped --- everything was of the highest quality. The location was ideal for the amenities of West Yellowstone and for entrance to the park. We were "sad" to leave, and we would all gladly repeat the experience!
Wonderful home with everything you could possibly need. Well-equipped, comfortable beds, quiet neighborhood with easy access to snowmobiling trails. Just a few minutes from West Yellowstone where you can find pretty much everything you need. Loved the gas fireplace to warm up at the end of the day. GREAT mud room for snowmobiling gear. Kitchen opens up to dining area and living room so everyone can stay connected. Nice master suite tucked away upstairs in the corner so it's private. Would highly recommend!
We were a group of three couples meeting to enjoy snowmobiling in West Yellowstone, MT. The house was perfect for our gathering! The kitchen was fully stocked including pots and pans, dishes, glasses, and everything we needed to enjoy our time together. We cooked a huge breakfast in the morning before snowmobiling and enjoyed the warm fireplace when we got back late that evening. Everyone commented on how comfortable their beds were. The bathrooms were all first class. Don't miss this spot, it is beautiful!
This home was such a wonderful winter retreat to enjoy some fun snowmobiling. We were a group of five and were all impressed with this lovely home and its location. We were able to park a five place snowmobile trailer and two vehicles with no issues. Inside this home was a perfect balance of rustic meets modern. It is also a very nicely furnished and clean home. After a day of riding we would come home and remove our gear in the tiled mud room and then enter the warmth of the main living area with the gas fireplace a welcome sight for our cold and tired bodies. Heading into the kitchen you will find ample working space to prepare your meals. Everything we needed was there and ready for our use, right down to the crock-pot for homemade chili and the mixer for making the mashed potatoes. The views from this home face lionhead mountain and make for some nice photo opportunities as the light changes. The beds were very comfortable and if you are into reading a book before retiring for the evening, there has got to be hundreds of books to select from for your enjoyment. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. Communication with the property manager was excellent. Internet worked well. I would certainly come back again and would most definitely recommend staying here if your plans bring you this way. P.S. We took a video of a moose from the side porch as it casually walked by. Great memories!
Can't not brag enough on the organization and ease of booking this beautiful cabin, West of West. The cabin was beautiful, comfy, and inviting. Loved that all rooms had their own thermostats, the fireplace was perfect for taking the chill off. The kitchen appliances were very nice. My only complaint was that the dish TV service provided, was very limited on channel availability. The cabin was situated just enough distance outside of West Yellowstone to make it convenience to access the the park, the grocery store and restaurants. Only one bedroom downstairs, so future renters keep that in mind if stairs would be an issue. If we were to return for another visit to the area, definitely would rent West of West again.
Where to start..I would recommend this home highly and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The owners thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked including spices, beautiful dishes, pots and pans, new refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. Beautifully furnished throughout in western theme with comfortable furniture. The bedrooms were large with very comfortable beds and great linens. Did I mention the fact that there were extra towel, sheets and blankets. The game/tv room was stocked with movies, books and games and flat screen tv. The kids really loved to hangout there. Great porch with gas grill and lots of seating.
We were only 15 mins to the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the town of West Yellowstone. Lots to do and see in West Yellowstone.
The only negative was the wifi. The people before us used the monthly allotment of data by streaming movies, etc. so there was very little for us. My understanding is that the owners were made aware of this and were correcting the problem. There is no cell service at the house but there is a land line with free long distance.
The staff at Mountain Home checked in with us to make sure everything was okay and even notified us that our home was ready for our early arrival. We have rented homes in the past thru VRBO and this was the first time ever to receive such professional courtesy.
My family and I stayed for week in this home. There were 5 of us - my husband and I, my two older kids, and my mother-in-law. It was so nice for everyone to have their own rooms. The kitchen was impeccably stocked - even with organic spices! It is obvious the owner is a gourmet cook. The big family room had plenty of seating for us to all spread out after sightseeing and do our own thing. We would definitely come back to this house in particular! And the view from the front porch was just fantastic! I can't say enough good things about this house. Don't pass it up!
